why do so many fans have to downplay romo's performance

Fans downplay the success of players who don't play for their team. Like, McNabb, Merriman, Steven Jackson...

That means nothing when talking about Romo. But hey knock yourself out. He has a lot to prove to me yet.

I expect most pro athletes are out to prove something to themselves and their teammates. Fans and media are somewhat lower down the list.

So one great play makes his whole bad preformance disappear. Ok... I see what I am dealing with.

I am glad he made the play and was as happy as **** when he did it. It was a great pass, but he played like **** for most of that game.

This is silly. Statistically, Romo may have had a bad day, but in reality, he led the team to either a TD or a FG attempt on 6 of 10 drives and converted 6 of 11 3rd down conversions. One of the interceptions was a tipped ball that Kiwanuka fumbled right back to the Cowboys, meaning that it didn't hurt the Cowboys at all.

Sure, it wasn't Romo's best statistical day, but he still led the team to scores, and he still did what was needed to win.

performance up untill now?

im talking about opposing teams fans, not cowboy fans.

Every message board i come across most of them say well he will only get worse once defenses figure him out, he is a flash in the pan, he is only doing good because he has great weapons around him.

it makes me mad, that Romo isnt getting any credit by opposing fans:mad:

I see this as well. I can't comment on the flash in the pan theory. It's only been a 1/3 of a season. I can say that each and every one of those people, trying in vain to find something wrong with Romo, would sell their children to have a back-up QB as good as Romo. There's no way a sane man could argue otherwise. I hear the good weapons around him stance as well. If he was playing for anyone else the saying would go "he's doing a great job, he's only had this season to get in sync with his receivers." The Brees supporters use that one, as well as their OL has 2 rookies. Well, how 'bout this......our OL sucks. These receivers are just as new to Romo as they are to Brees. In fact Brees has had more practice time and playing time than Romo.
It has little to do with Romo and a lot to do with Cowboy hate.

So what must you see to know, 'Hey, this is our guy.'

A good playoff game? Two straight good years? A decade's worth?

More than 8 games, that's for sure.

This whole romo-mania thing after 8 games is a shining example of how the cowboys are either loved or hated. It comes with the territory of being the most popular team in the nation. I've never heard or read anything that led me to believe the cowboys were the victims of unfair criticism...Did u not see the media all on Romo's jock for weeks before the saints game?

Pay closer attention. Our 1970's team went to 5 Super Bowls and won 2. We had several All Pros across the decade. Know how many of that amazing group of players are in the Hall of Fame?

Mel Renfro, go look at his stats and tell me why it took 19 years.

Bob Lilly, he was a no brainer.

Randy White, also a no brainer.

Roger Staubach, yep, another.

Tony Dorsett, there's a theme here.

Rayfield Wright, it only took 27 years and a hard push by the veterans committee. Even though he never gave up a sack in his career and was described by Deacon Jones as the only player he ever feared.

Every player on the all 1970's decade team is in the Hall of Fame except 2 Cowboys. The inclusion on Wright removed the 3rd exclusion.

Just food for thought.

i see what your saying but dont you think fans of every team in the league think this way. Saints fans were complaining that we were favored to lose every game, and written off in the dallas game despite the fact that we were winning. San Fran fans have been incensed at frank gore not getting enough attention
As fans we see our own teams as the center of the universe. One of our guys starts playing well and we lose our minds. I mean hell...Jeff Garcia is playing better than drew brees or tony romo by the last few games....does this mean hes the best qb in the league? If you were in philly he would be your romo.

How about the various rule implementations with Cowboys roots.

The Emmitt Smith rule, no taking off your helmet on the playing field.

The Deion Sanders rule, despite his contract for the 49ers being worse.

The Roy Williams rule, no horse collar tackles even though it's been around for years. Meanwhile the chop block is still legal and has hurt far more players.

There are others as well.

You're talking about fan feelings. I'm giving you tangible evidence. Rule changes and Hall of Fame snubs.

You guys had lost 3 of your last six. We had won 4 straight and were being viewed at that time as the most complete teams in the NFC by most. There was no biased at that point in time.

Losing teams, with star players like a Frank Gore rarely get much pub.

On the other hand when former players get involved in something they should not, the headline is always former Cowboy, no matter what teams they played for after that point in time.

hmm...you guys have some good points..i cant pretend to be an expert on cowboys media relations after all.

To be fair though on the last point ive quoted is that when terrance copper or fujita make a good play they are still called a former cowboy. Kinda goes both ways...

Because Sean Payton used to coach the Cowboys. These color guys have to come up with something interesting to say, and undoubtedly the roster turnover and Payton's acquisition of some of his former players is part of the media packet. Dallas fans heard the same sort of thing with all the FOB's that BP brought in early on.

The media has slobberred on the Saints nuts all year long. If they are given any disrespect, it is merely to set them up as the underdog. That's exactly what happened in the Cowboys game, despite the fact that the teams had identical records.

Because he does have great weapons around him and he plays in a bad conference and McNabb is hurt, Hasselbeck has been hurt, Delhomme has regressed, Culpepper is in Miami and Eli Manning sucks. You have to play well against the good teams to get respect and certainly more than 8 games.

In a bad conference?

Compared to which one in the NFC?
More than likely it will have 3 playoff teams!!!

I betcha the NFC East teams respect him!:)
