Yawn, watch him do his annual 200 yard primetime bonanza this week and everyone will cheer again.

I have never stopped cheering because he's on several of my FFL teams. :D

Myself I like the combo of both backs. I don't see either of them being guys who are going to get 25 carries or more a game. Together though they give Dallas the needed ground game to run a balanced attack.

What's your point?

They share carries.

Total yards for the season?

What you're not getting is that we take a running back by committe approach.

That kind of stuff is going to happen. Barber is a good back, but I don't get how that leads to .... "julius sucks".

We have a potent offense with him running the ball.

I love how people take a small sample from a couple of games, and then draw some silly end-all-tell-all conclusion as they make some absurd assertion that Julius Jones "sucks so bad".

I mean, most fans can see how ridiculous, and troll-like, a comment like this is.

Either that, or you just don't know what you're talking about.

My guess is the latter....
HOMER! theres a reason why everybody has been saying barber should be the starter for the past month now.

This topic has been beat to death. He is what he is, an average back. That's what he's always been -- his rookie year included. It's easy to rack up yards running counters against Seattle's third-string linebackers.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Lack of confidence.

Not just that, but an important observation.

Mentally, he doesn't have what it takes to be a starting quality NFL running back, in my opinion.

Even now, he is the starter, yet states he doesn't care if he gets his playing time cut into. Many others in his position would be defiant and angry. He appears resigned, like his demotion is inevitable.

He never had struck me as the most competitive fellow and it you cannot do that, you will sink as an NFL running back.

barber has outgained julius in 2 out of the last 3 games

Yeah, so are you saying earlier in the year Barber sucked when JJ was outgaining him ?

Well, I don't think Barber sucked then.

Have you actually watched these two run ? When JJ has a hole he has a great burst through it, so does Barber...although not as fast.

The only crtisism I have with JJ is that he goes down to easy at times. He has not had a lot of holes to run through lately, his (and ours) bad luck.

These backs have been running in cycles.

Last week it was almost 70 here in CT., now its about 20. Does that mean we are in an ice age this week, global warming last week ?

Explain the 200 yard game he had against Carolina last year then. You can't blame 'third string linebackers' for that.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "everyone", but I think that some, and I'd even go so far to say that most fans, see the reasoning behind starting Julius, and then bring in Barber later, fresh, in the redzone and on 3rd downs.

With so much production in our running game this year, I just don't see how you can make an intelligent claim that Julius sucks.

I mean, if starting Barber were the most beneficial thing for our team, wouldn't you think that the coaching staff would do the best thing for the team?

If you can't see that a lot of Barber's success is due to the fact that he comes in on 3rd downs, in the redzone, and when the defense is worn down then you do need glasses.

I'm not denying that Barber is a good back, but so is Julius. We have one of the most productive running games in the NFL. But Julius sucks....

And let's not forget how many TDs Barber has.

Do you honestly think he could come in and bull over people if he's carrying the ball all game?

Seriously, this is one of the most narrow-minded, asinine statements that you could make. Seeing how A LOT of our success has resulted from a 2-back system....

This statement of yours is just plain silly, considering the facts of course.

I said lack of confidence because this is a guy that predicted 1800 or so yards last year. He seemed pretty confident going into that season. He then gets a high ankle sprain and people question his durability. Then he watches his carries get distributed to Barber. Now he watches Barber score all those TDs. I think his confidence is a bit shaken.

He's afflicted with Hambrickitis. He runs with his head down and refuses to bounce a play outside.

I disagree. I think that Parcells has coached both of them to have the mentality to be team players.

In other words, they do what the coach tells them to. Because he's doing what's best for the team.

(And they're members of the team)

So, it only stands to reason that Julius is doing the job that he is being told to do - and just because he isn't popping off at the mouth and whining about how many carries he gets, et cetera - doesn't mean that he has given up.

The dude tries as hard as he can and sets high (unachievable even) goals for himself. And he's stayed injury free this year.

Our running game would be crap without Julius ... and/or Marion Barber. They're both crucial to this team's success.

That's the bottom line.

I think it would be HUGE mistake to start Barber over JJ. Don't get me wrong, I like Barber, I love the way he runs. But JJ is the starter for a reason. He is a very good back. He is averaging almost 4 yds per carry and he is doing that when D's are set up to defend the Run. I think some fans get excited about Barber's production but they fail to realize that when he is in there, 90% of the time, its against a nickel set and not a base set.

As far as what's wrong with JJ,, I don't think there is, but if there is, I think he is still trying to learn how BP wants him to run. For example, a couple of weeks ago, BP said that JJ was running at the safety better, but not exactly what he would like to see. So I think he might be a little tenative in his cuts.. but once he learns how and why BP wants him to do certain things, he will be a much better back.

And by the way.. a back cutting to the outside is overrated and means nothing in regards to their ability. You want to see if a back can play in this league,, watch for the cut INSIDE the hole.. and JJ does that pretty good.

I agree and the fact is Barber has not mouthed off either about not starting. These 2 are doing the job being asked of them. There is no doubt that Barber has had the hot hand as of late and chances are his carries could increase if that continues. Jones though has also had some very good outing this season putting up 3 100 yard rushing games in a row earlier in the season. I think both back compliment each other very well and feel comfortable with who ever is in the game.

Troy Hambrick wasn't without a 200-yard game, either. Consistency is the key word here, and without it, you're just average.
