As GM I would not offer him any more than we gave Pearless Price and I would hope that he didn't take it. I would not tie up any big money in him because I would expect to have to cut his sorry butt halfway through the season. His status would never be more secure than year to year so that he would never have the upper hand or even think that he did.

Any GM that signs him will be dealing with the dreaded "loyalty" clause which first came to be when Carl Pickens was being a problem in Cincinnati. I don't know the rules in terms of that as far as the NFLPA is concerned, but I am sure that the team that signs him (and someone will) shall at least attempt to wade into that pool.

As a Cowboys fan if he came here I would still boo his every appearance on the field and would not cheer for his TD catches. It would be a sorry way to follow the Cowboys and I very well might just have to move on and watch Hockey or Basketball or something until he was gone.

That is nice in terms of romance concerning your favorite football team, but I wonder exactly how much many fellows such as yourself would be willing to follow through on it.

If we signed Owens, I would not like it. But I would trust that Coach Parcells knew what he was doing.

You call call me cheap, but I look at Owens like I would a high priced call girl with a impressive body and an attitude. The moral side says no way, but the goods are hard to resist as you dole out the cash. I might hate myself in the morning, but I would have a good time before that.

This will be a long post so I hope you read it. I have no proof Owens will be a Cowboy. This is all just my opinion and thoughts. Go ahead and read around and you will see this is MY thinking.

Oh, for God's sake, get off TO's jock... I mean, seriously, try thinking about the situation before inflicting this twaddle on us...

Parcells has said he's too old for "thugs and hoodlums"; TO is both... Parcells got rid of Anthony Bryant, now you think he's gonna bring in a player who makes AB look like a choirboy??

And of course, Jerry still has to sign the paycheck, and do you REALLY think he'd be up for throwing megadollars at the guy who desecrated the star??

A snowball stands a better chance in Hades than TO does of ever being a Dallas Cowboy... make your peace with that, and know that your dream is my nightmare...

Though I'm loathe to question your credentials as a Cowboys fan, I can't understand how ANY real Cowboys fan would EVER want that piece of crap wearing the star... it makes my blood boil just reading threads like this one...

Dude you make very valid points.

No, he doesn't...

T.O. has made alot of mistakes and I truely believe this one has hit home.

And why do you believe that?? Because he "apologized"?? Did you SEE that joke of an apology?? There was no genuine contrition shown there...

BP can handle with no problem and I bet T.O. would give the RESPECT he demands.

Owens doesn't respect anybody, and he never will... he's a punk, plain and simple... you're deluding yourself if you believe otherwise, he wore out his welcome in San Francisco, and has quickly worn out his welcome in Philthydelphia...

Its very possible that he could land here

When donkeys fly...

I don't think he would be the same person with the BOYZ that he was with the Eagles or 49ers. He doesn't wanna be in the negative spot light anymore.

I think you're out of your freakin' mind if you believe that...

But what would you do if, and I said, IF this occurred.

Would you firebomb Valley Ranch?

Tearfully burn all of your Cowboys merchandise in a bonfire?

Or would your blood just boil?

I have yet to see many advocating for his acquisition. But if it occurred, I have enough faith in the decision makers in the franchise to realize they were attempting to win a championship.

I was not thrilled about the Charles Haley trade. But I understood it and did not go and kick the dog.

I was less than enthused about the Deion Sanders signing. But I did not go postal and go shoot up a fast food establishment.

Some of you take fan passion to extremes. Almost like a child.

I support more than the uniform. I have to support the players on the team as well.

JD, I loathe Owens with the same white hot passion you do, and if he signed with the Boys, I'd still follow them...

But I'd root for him to sustain a career-ending injury each and every Sunday... I'd cheer if that injury ever occurred...

Sorry you have a problem with me questioning you. No need to get defensive.

You suggested there was a player's "vote". And nobody can verify that. Just some off the cuff comments that "players wanted him gone". Well of course many of the players wanted him gone. That does nothing to validate that there was a "vote", which Reid's comments also deny.

And why exactly is that so important to you?? It doesn't change the fact that you cheerfully acknowledge, that the guy is detested by the vast majority of his teammates...

And that being the case, what makes you think the situation will be any different wherever he winds up next?? The guy has always been eager to throw teammates under the bus when it suits his agenda...

Oh that it were only true. Owens will find someone foolish enough or desperate enough to hire him if he is willing to take the deal. I do think he has seen his last big contract offer though.

It was reported that members of the team did not want him back. I am not disputing that. Just this overly dramatic and yet to be verified vote which you claim happened. It was "verified" by Sal Paolantonio, yet denied by the head coach himself. But I am supposed to believe Reid has an agenda and some writer from ESPN who is paid for news/rumor doesn't?

Again, whether or not an actual vote was ever taken, it seems to me that JD has adequately documented his claim, which is that it was REPORTED that the Iggles' players had conducted a vote...

That being the case, why are you still giving JD a ration of crap?? Are you some kind of TO groupie, on a mission from God to rescue his reputation??

I never have absolved Owens of any responsibility. He made his own bed. But again, the automatic assumption is by laymen (you, me and everyone else) that we would NEVER EVER have anything to do with him. Fact is, we don't know. Chances are we wouldn't. But I have a feeling the only doors being shut are by fans moreso than the organization.

I am not spinning anything. I am just trying to get to the facts which are few and far between in this soap opera.[/QUOTE]

You apparently are missing the point.

I just don't have the "white hot" and "boiling" passion for this that you do that I would go off the deep end if for some reason the team decided to sign Owens.

I have not defended a thing Owens has done. I just am amused by the emotional reaction he gets. You have fans who have most assuredly followed the team for years literally vowing to to never watch the team again or swear off the sport entirely just because it occurs. In my view, that is a pathetic viewpoint. Moreover, you get some who are holier than thou who want to question another's loyalty as a fan because they disagree. That is asinine.

And like I said, very much like a frustrated child.

I remember when we gave a 2nd rounder to the 49ers for Charles Haley. He was supposed to be a locker room cancer.

Haley never pulled one tenth of the crap TO has... he also had a reputation as a passionate team leader on the field...

Your comparison doesn't work, and any number of levels...

i disagree. guys have been banned before. maybe not forever but he'll have to sit a while. i can think of duane thomas and hollywood henderson as two who were not given third or fourth chances anymore. of course their problems were drugs and not attitude. jeff george is another one who comes to mind. after being the 1st pick overall he had to sit out a year at some point. deion sanders had to sit out too. this will be a first as far as TO being at the top of his game and all. but i can bet he won't be playing anywhere in 06.

So, defecating on the dashboard of an assistant coach's automobile is less deplorable than stating Brett Favre would be a better QB for your team?

Haley tried to pull the same crap but he encountered meaner dogs in dallas, namely nate newton and mark tuinei who were crazier than him.

He also had a coach in Jimmy Johnson that basically told him the way it was.

On a primitive level, he understood.

And in a way, with the alpha male mentality Owens has, he needs that as well.

Nope... but I rather doubt that I'd buy any more while he was on the roster...

Hey, you can do childlike... check out your baiting of JD Smith over his claim that there was a report that the Iggles' players voted to ask management not to bring TO back... you've been worryin' that one like a ****zu at a chew toy...

Do I believe that Coach Parcells would do it? No.

But would I totally discount it? Absolutely not. He did not recoil in horror when he was asked the questions today in his press conference. If he wanted to, he would do it and he would control him. I firmly believe that. And if he decided to do it, I would be right behind him. He has the track record with Glenn and Johnson and if he was okay with it, so would I.

Hey, you can do childlike... check out your baiting of JD Smith over his claim that there was a report that the Iggles' players voted to ask management not to bring TO back... you've been worryin' that one like a ****zu at a chew toy...

I am glad to see that you feel compelled to defend JDSmith. He defended himself and I don't think I was attacking. I am fine with his assertions and I really don't necessarily believe them. But the facts don't support the detail of a player "vote". That was my point of contention.

Your actions are at odds with your words... you have expended a considerable amount of bandwidth in this thread for somebody who doesn't really care all that much...

Actually, we have a SINGLE fan saying that... and I rather suspect that JD's love of the Cowboys would eventually win out if Owens was signed, that he'd still root for the Boys in spite of his pledge...

But I understand that pledge, it resonates with me... it resonates because I do remember the a****le who desecrated the star, and can't begin to imagine him now playing for the Cowboys... he proved that he doesn't give a crap about the Dallas Cowboys... but more important, it resonates with me because everywhere Owens has gone, he's wound up hurting the team he plays for with his garbage...

The logical question is, why would you (I mean you personally) WANT a player on the team that you KNOW has been destructive everywhere he's played?? Do you secretly hate the Cowboys, and would find amusement in him doing to the Boys what he did to the Niners and Iggles??
