Alexander said:Parcells thinks he can be as effective as McGinest, which is why he even thought of it. Ellis sells himself short and I even think his biggest supporters follow suit. He has surprised himself two years running. It sounds to me he really doesn't know his own talent as much as the head coach does.
ConcordCowboy said:Yeah McGinest is always the name thrown out there and for good reason...But Question and this is for anyone...who else has done this move and been very successful...Anyone?

The Realist said:4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB?
Or this late in career?
zrinkill said:Maybe because guys like Ellis and McGinist cry about the move so much that it rarely gets done .....
How many on here wanted to trade Ellis? Bill willed this threw and it may be an incredible move for Ellis.

Why did we draft Carpenter as an OLB if, as Bill stated, "he looks like an inside guy?"
Taking it back a year, same deal with Burnett.
I'm all for depth -- and I thought Carpenter was a good pick. But this is two years straight that we tried to fill OLB and ended up with ILB. It seemed that Bill had that in mind for Burnett coming in. But how did it happen again with Carpenter? Our need inside is not as great as the need outside. So what happened here?
FLcowboy said:And while your question is a good question, you are also probably aware that training camp is designed to determine who the best players are, to go forward into the season with. Since Bill alreeady has his starting roster pretty much decided, he is now trying to use training camp to develop players to become more versatile, so that one player can fill another position and still keep the best 22 players on the field.

Manster68 said:I'm with InmanRoshi and Alexander in that I think Carpenter was primarily brought in to be one of the inside backers..

The reason Carpenter is inside is cuz Ellis is doing a good job at OLB.
Plain and simple.
abersonc said:I'm still not buying that Ellis is doing a good job inside until he actually plays against a team or two.
Still doesn't explain why Carpenter is running 3rd string at OLB

Alexander said:So he is going to run second string at two different spots?
