Why not a trade for a backup QB?

Brady is on contract longer than Garrappolo. NE has time now to get some value for Garappolo especially in a season where they don't have a first and then draft another QB later for their future.

If Brady plays for more than two more seasons which seems very likely from all indications then Garrappolo will likely hit the market anyways.

Why would anyone want to replace Romo with a guy that NE feels can't replace Brady for at least 5 years? I like Tony better than a 45 year old Brady. Hell, I like Tony better than Brady right now!

Where, indeed, are my manners! By using the word Yanks, I did not mean to imply that you southern people were Yankees. That word is a term of endearment to all you Americans who saved our British way of life twice in the last century. Perhaps I should use another word instead of Yanks. If I have offended anyone here, please, a round of Guinness and potato pot pie for everyone here. Let us all sing a raucous round of "It's a Long Way to Tipperary"!

I'd rather draft a QB at #4 and move on with life.

Not that I disagree, but here's how I see the depth chart in this scenario:

1) Romo
2) Wentz/Goff/Lynch
3) Moore

I don't trust a rook to take us to the playoffs should Romo go down. Unless they have a Marinoesque rookie campaign, we're toast. And we already saw last year Moore is no better than a 3rd stringer.

I'm down with drafting a QB, but only if we trade for a legit vet. I'd even be amenable to bringing in Nick Foles (3 year deal; team option on the 3rd year) - for the right price:

1) Romo
2) Foles
3) Wentz/Goff/Lynch

Crazy that a guy drafted a couple years ago cant replace a guy that is arguably the GOAT.

If Romo is down, the season is likely over regardless. It's a moot point. By that logic, why ever draft the future QB if the fear is he may have to play...

Not content with offending Americans, you're now trying to offend Irish people? And on the 100th anniversary of 1916? I'll get you a spade.

one thing i have found to be pretty consistent is that when someone calls jerry jones "jerra" they have a pre-conceived notion of how he will act and the stupid things he will do - but he seldom does them yet the people who think "jerra" stupid will continue to lob out things like this as "typical jerra" even though it's not really...typical.
It's just fun. Comes with the territory as a GM.

Because we are in win now mode. Need to win one before Witten hangs them up. Otherwise, I agree with you.

We're in a win now mode and need to win one before Romo hangs them up. Once he hangs them up what we saw last season could be the norm unless we find a QB who can play to the same level as he has or better. We can win without Witten but we can't win without Romo. The Broncos went all in to win a couple of years ago when they signed Ware and Talib because they knew Manning's days were drawing to an end. Lucky for them they won it all last season because with Manning hanging them up and Denver not having a QB they could be headed for some lean years.

There is no reason your rookie top 5 draft pick couldn't be your backup.

We all know if Romo goes down again, the season is over. Might as well get the future some experience.

If there were actually a Franchise QB then trade up YESTERDAY in a hurry!

BTW, there is a pretty darn good Bus Driver that could be there @ #4 in Goff.

Atlanta traded Bret Favre to the Packers.

San Diego allowed Drew Brees to become a free agent.

Tampa Bay traded Steve Young to the 49ers.

These are three of the most prolific passers in NFL history.

They are all Super Bowl Champions.

Only Brees is not a Hall of Famer. He is not eligible yet.

However, what young quarterback has that potential while simultaneously being underestimatwd by their present team?

The Cowboys need a quarterback that can come in at any point and replace Romo and be successful.....quite possibly on a permanent basis.

In answer to the OP - No. Starting QB is a more pressing need.

The team is at that window where they have to sacrifice a little to to keep winning down the road. In a draft where there is no head and shoulders "freak" in the top 5, draft either Wentz or Goff.

I like the thread title and I have a response but I dare not post it as it is a comparison of the relationship of QB and their B/U to the relationship of a POTUS and his VP. The policy is no politics so... I pass on posting my response.
