Just Moore.. Jerry knows this.. that's why he read Moore the riot act about running the ball after the Tampa game this year and why McCarthy did it after the Tampa game this year.. Quit trying to be cute and get under center and play football.. Shotgun lessens the effectiveness of our 90 million dollar running back and forces the QB to have to focus on fielding the ball for a full second or more when he could have been looking at the defense. That's why I find it hilarious that people claim Dak doesn't play under center more because he doesn't read defenses. Dropping back on the backpedal allows the QB to keep his eyes on the defense the entire time.. and not have to be worrying about where the hell the snap is going. It's literally the exact opposite.

Our own Roger Staubach stated that he hated being in shotgun for that very reason. But it became necessary when the Cowboys essentially had to replace his entire offensive line over a two year span and Roger could barely GET to his drop backs without getting killed. Most of his contemporaries felt the same way. The only reason QBs favor it now is because they've been running it since they were 7 years old and don't know any better.
Hard for me to give Jerry credit for knowing much of anything, judging by the extreme screwups he has consistently made over the years.

People are just happy to be getting wins and crediting the QB for being the difference is low hanging fruit. Crediting the defense for refusing to let the other team into the end zone and the OC for calling a more balanced game requires more thinking.. and who wants to do any thinking on the internet.

Problem is they’re giving Cooper Rush too much credit. One fan claimed he’s playing phenomenal. Lol If Dak was putting up the same numbers everyone would be saying we’re winning in spite of him. Rush certainly hasn’t been bad, he’s been solid but certainly nothing great. We have the 25th ranked offense with him.

Rush's play has magnified Dak's limits.
In another word, it took Rush's play to highlight what Dak needs to be doing.

Rush is the one with limits. If it wasn’t for our defense and kicker we wouldn’t be winning games. He’s done just enough to keep us afloat.

Leaving the QB debate out of this… I have been preaching to play more under center for a long time. Play action is such a weapon and it is underutilized these days.

Dallas needs to use much more play action, regardless of who is at QB. I’m telling you it makes a huge difference to the defense. Playing DB, I hated play action. It makes everything more difficult, and the better your OL and your running backs are, the more difficult it becomes.
Ditto and agree 100%

so who would be putting up the points? Not Grier, he could not beat out Rush in the preseason.
So we saw no limits in game 1, and all of a sudden a new QB comes in and the whole team gets better. Hum, nice theory.

We haven’t faced a defense like Tampa’s since game one. If anyone thinks Rush would’ve done any better against that Tampa D they’re kidding themselves. We didn’t play anyone in preseason so no surprise we stunk in the opener. Only figures we would get better once we got a game under our belt. Most thought Will Grier was out playing Rush in training camp but he got injured.

The offense is doing what it is supposed to do…...ball control. Imagine if they had better starting field position? They seem to usually start deep in their own territory. Sure, more TD’s would be nice and it might come tomorrow as they gel more together

If Romo and Moore didn't get hurt, Dak probably wouldn't be here. Is this how if's works?

No offense, OP, but I think maybe the title should be "Why this offense is a little better than we expected".

This is true. After the first game, I think a lot of us wondered if we'd even be able to score 10 points a game with Rush. The fact that we've scored 20 or more in each game has to be considered a success even with what the defense has done. That's really what's being addressed here. Starting QBs couldn't score 20 against our defense, but our offense is doing it with a backup.

Dak would have eventually gotten an opportunity because Kellen Moore certainly wasn’t the answer and Romo was going to get hurt again. Dak was terrific in preseason so he wasn’t going anywhere even if Moore and Romo didn’t get hurt. Dak was more productive when he took over than Rush has been. Our offense was more potent and we didn’t have as good a defense in 2016 as we do now. It’s our defense that’s saving us and Brett Maher has kicked very consistently. Things are going to come crashing down with Cooper Rush if we don’t get better offensively. We can’t be relying on our kicker for most of our points.

That is all good and well but none of that happened. If Dez catches the pass, if the ball wasn't slick and if Romo didn't fumble the snap, none of this happened and it's all guessing. As of now, we are scoring what it takes to win. From Rush's history, how do we not know he scores more points to win if the points go up? A lot of these if's are being posted to discredit Rush. None of the if's has happened so if's mean nothing.
