Twitter: Why our offense has been more effective lately

Cooper Rush has been excellent and it’s been a definite blessing to the team. He’s keeping us afloat until QB1 returns but I think this conversation from ESPN (if all places) digs into why our offense is working despite not having our starting QB.

Thoughts?

The most recent Super Bowl winning teams uses the highest percentage of shotgun.

The type of run blocking scheme is a big issue. The Rams run blocking scheme works better than old style power-man (gap) schemes from shotgun.

Hoe does this video relate to the Cowboys specifically?

Defense has been able to keep offense in games. Dallas is 30th in 3rd down conversions, we are 27th in points per game. Upside we have the fewest turnovers per game
Detroit is 1st in the NFL, averaging 35 points per game.
Stats really are useless when the game is played.

We haven’t faced a defense like Tampa’s since game one. If anyone thinks Rush would’ve done any better against that Tampa D they’re kidding themselves. We didn’t play anyone in preseason so no surprise we stunk in the opener. Only figures we would get better once we got a game under our belt. Most thought Will Grier was out playing Rush in training camp but he got injured.
He did. 7/13 for 64 yds after Dak went down in TB game.

We’re scoring just enough points to get by. Every win we’ve had this season has come down to the final possession. We’ve had a lot of drives bog down and we’re very lucky Brett Maher has been consistent so far. Rush has done a solid job but you’re not going to get very far with a QB that’s on pace for 17 TD passes in a 17 game season and 3600 yards passing. With our inability to run the football consistently we’re going to end up in some serious trouble against better teams. Would you be satisfied with Rush as our full time starting QB?
Dak had 3,800 in his rook season.

The video talks about the benefits of being under center and how it gives a defense more to think about and how it helps your QB, especially with play action passes. Our current QB has been very successful with play action passes. I hope the starting QB is assisted with similar play calling when he returns.

I haven't been saying that.

I only feel that if we're winning, we should wait to reinsert Dak until after we lose rather than possibly disrupting the run, especially in either of these next two games when we're facing possibly two of our toughest opponents. For instance, we might lose to the Rams whether we started Rush or Dak, but if we lost in Dak's first start back, the optics would look worse since we've won our three games starting Rush. Better to wait until Rush loses to turn it back over to Dak. If for some reason we don't lose either of these next two games, we could put him back in against Detroit, But I'd be hesitant to remove a quarterback who has been part of five straight victories at that point. Eventually, the time will come to have Dak take back over and if it doesn't, that means we've won all of our games, which would be a good thing no matter who is at QB.

I look forward to seeing what the offense can do when Dak gets back, especially if the defense is still playing at this high level. I do have some concerns, though, that he hasn't looked that great since his calf injury last year. If he can get back to being the QB he was at the beginning of last year, we'll be tough to handle.
The players know who’s the better QB. Delaying Daks return is not going to happen. Jeez you guys need to get a grip! This isn’t Madden !

One thing is for sure, it's not up for the fans to decide, but interesting to debate, nonetheless.

The truly amazing thing is that there is a legitimate debate about the amount of differences between the way the two play and the way the offense is run by them

usually there is a vast difference between a 4th rounder making 40 million a year and an UDFA making 970K a year.

Dak had 134 yards, completion % of 48, 1 interception and no touchdowns in game 1….he lowered the offensive rankings and lost the game for us.
Not so much. Dak will be starting as soon as he’s ready. Just deal with it because otherwise you look ignorant.

The only ones looking ignorant is the owner that signed him for 20% of the teams salary cap and the few minority of fans thinking that they will see a championship with Dakota as Qb

I’ve dealt with 3 playoff wins in 22 years so I can deal with another season or 2 until we can get the next real franchise Qb,…….I’m in no Rush

So 3 wins in 22 years is Daks fault? WTH is wrong with you?

1 playoff win and 3 playoff losses with Dakota. The question is “ WTH is wrong with Dakota”.

His time is numbered here and Cooper Rush being able to fill in so nicely has exposed Rayne even more than before.

At least several years ago the best thing about Dak was that he wasn’t injury…..but that’s turned out to be false too. It’s something with him every year.

I don't think most team ran the shotgun at that time. I think most snaps were from under center.

Dallas was the only team that didn't run it at all. But I'm not totally sure on that. Most other teams ran shotgun in passing situations and in 2 minute drills. Shotgun was probably run around 10% of the time. Not like it is today of course, today the teams run it like kids do playing in the street.

Wake up!……….he’s an accident waiting to happen and the last 3 years he’s been missing more games than playing games.
He missed one game last year.

Played 16+1 in the playoffs. 5 in 2020. That is 17.

He missed 12 in 2020 and 3 so far this year.

I count 22 games played and 15 missed.

Facts matter.
