Why was Stewart fired but Garrett wasn't?

the obvious answer is even if they wanted to fire garrett they didn't have a replacement for him in house.

beyond that he has a nice juicy contract.

and jerry really likes the guy.

he did have a down year but he wasn't replaced on the job like stewart was so he wasn't expendable in the same manner.

Jason Garrett is still here because Jerry owes him 3 million dollars for this year. There was no replacement for him. Stewart could be replaced by Wade. Jerry did try and get a somebody for Garrett to fall back on in Dan Reeves, but that failed.

Garrett has the most talented offense in the league and failed last season. you really can't argue that.

When the offense was actually at full strength, the offense was putting up plenty of points. But, losing Kosier, Felix Jones, then Romo (who was never the same after his finger injury).

Was Jason Garrett perfect last year, no FAR from it. But his issues were MINOR compared to all the other issues that were going on.

And any WR that can no longer consistently get open when facing man to man press coverage is no longer a #1 WR. Last year, our offense was not all that much different than the Chiefs offense 4 and 5 years ago, where they had a running game and Tony Gonzalez but no threats at WR that teams feared.

Until TO learns to beat press coverage again, he is a big name to fans, but he will NOT be feared by opposing DC's.

And anyone who thought that Roy Williams was going to come in mid season and produce like a Pro Bowl WR, is stuck in fantasy football, NOT in real life NFL football. No WR, no matter how good he is, can come in and dominate for a new team immediately. It takes TIME to learn the routes, get in a rythem with the QB, develop the trust of the QB. There is a WHOLE lot more to being a WR in the NFL than just running routes and catching the football.

Simple is NOT a bad thing. Our offense with the triplets was SIMPLE as well, especially our running game, we had in essence three running plays that we ran.

Football is not about out smarting the next guy, because to often you also end up out smarting yourself. Football is about out EXECUTING the next guy.

You do not go from elite WR to no longer a #1 WR in one season.
JG did not get T.O. open with the scheming as he did the previous year which is the major complaint T.O. had.

T.O. didn't go from one of the very best WR seasons in the history of the Cowboys to a bum.

If teams decided every week to press Owens then we should have adjusted to that but we didn't. That adjustment could have been more balls to RW11 but he was just plain awful in JG's sets and did not get to run the patterns he feel comfortable with such as slants. (((omg why all this slant talk... probably because a guy suffering with plantar fascisomething is far better when not asked ot make any sharp cut))).

Garrett is a very bright guy but he has to accept his role in last years debacle like everyone else, including the original 81.

Two years ago, I believed the Cowboys' defensive woes were the product of Bill Parcells and his overly simplistic schemes. Now, I see the folly of that belief. This team's current problems and problems over the past 4 or 5 years stem primarily from poor execution

I already admitted Lombardi and Johnson were fools. Delays and traps and play action. Morons. [/sarcasm]

problem is we don't run the ball enough even though we have 3 very good running backs. Garrett acts like Romo is a 10 year vet and wants throw hail mary's all game.

the game has changed since then. and those coaches protected there qbs with the running game unlike coach tecmo.

Once again, people are confusing simple with predictable. Jason garrett is both simple and predictable, while Norv wasn't. Norv ran one of the most balanced attacks for an offense ever. Norv ran an effective play-action, which Garrett never runs. That play-action forced safeties to the line, because they were ppredicting run, not pass. That is anything but predictable and 'simple'. Garrett further, has no tempo. he doesn't attack a defense according to it's weaknesses. There is a reason Norv could afford to run over and over again by the end of the game. They had worn out the defense with their long time-consuming drives, which again is the opposite of a Garrett attempt at a try and score a TD in one pass offense.

One only needs to look at his game-calling against the Ravens, especially quarters 2 and 3 to see how bad he was at calling a game.

The fact is Garrett's numbers are blurred by the fact he has a QB like Romo to avoid the rush and keep plays alive with his feet. He has all these weapons that overcome his inabilities to adjust.

Uh, they were the fault of BP. That is why, when Wade actually took over these defense, they went from one of the worst in the league at sacking to the QB to leading the league in sacking the QB. If it has to do with execution alone, then Dallas would have got that many sacks with Brian Stewart.

Ah, so in your world what he lacks is simply a Hall of Fame RB.

Gotcha.

The fact is the numbers are blurred by the fact that Romo was never healthy after the AZ Cardinals game. He was rushed back from a broken bone in his hand to try and salvage a sinking season.

Jimmy Johnson once said, "they knew what we were going to run, but they couldn't stop us."

Jimmy's an idiot.[/sarcasm]

No where did I say that Garrett was not to blame for last years debacle. He certainly was FAR from perfect, infact in a previous post I stated that.

And I would agree that you don't go from an elite WR to no longer being a #1 WR in one season. But the fact is, that TO was NOT an elite WR in 2007. He was no doubt an elite FANTASY WR, and he put up HUGE stats mostly early in the season. The second half of 2007 teams figured out how to guard the current TO, and that carried over into 2008. Is TO still a very good WR, absolutely. But, he is no longer an elite WR, or a true #1.

I know you are kidding here but it bears noting...
Jimmy Johnson never called an offense in his life.

He did however create his own defense the Miami 4-3.

Lombardi ran a very simple run-based offense but I wouldn't advise anyone to run it today.

The Dallas Cowboys in 1992-1993 may well have had the most talent ever assembled on one NFL football team.

We will find out this year if Garrett is willing to run the ball more. I think they will I think Wade himself wants to see more from the running game. Garrett has been OC all of 2 years now with a pretty successful year 1 and less successful in year 2.

They weren't doing anything against Arizona, before Romo even got hurt. His play-calling on that last drive is what caused Romo to get hurt in the first place. Even prior to that, they had to rely on a 70 yard miraculous TD by Marion that was pretty much a busted play by the Cardinals.
