Will Donovan Wilson be benched?

We finally have a coach that utilize all the players. He’ll figure it out. It’s gonna be back to sad times once Quinn leaves.

Yup quinn has been great for our defense.

Some team is going to make him a headcoach again. He could ge like Wade Phillips, a great defensive coordinator but not a good head coach.

Quinn is the opposite of Kellen Moore who seems more and more like Jason Garrett line up and beat your man style offense instead of design and calling great plays at the right time.

Kearse had a pro bowl worth season last yr, there is little argument that he was a top 3 defender on this defense. Kearse under Quinn is more of a linebacker then a safety.

It's a reason why Javon Kearse, (who was viewed as a mere special teams/ journeyman type) got the starting SS nod over Donovan Wilson.
His ability to consistently cover the TEs, had to be one, ..the other was his ability to lead.

Kearse apparently impressed the coach staff enuff to be entrusted to call the signals of Quinn's defense ... in just his first year in Dallas.
And it's been said that Donovan is not always in the right position, and who knows if that also leads to how much is he placing teammates in the right position.

The one thing i think Donovan has over Kearse, is his ball hawk ability to get INTs. .

When you're running 4.85 in the 40 yd,... that's just not an appealing draft value element at all.
Wilson is a subpar athlete. That alone threatens to drop your pre-draft stock

That's pretty alarming and concerning. and will give scouts and coaches the initial idea that is gonna
have issues matching up in man coverage and questioned range speed.

The key for that late rounder, is to prove that you play much faster on the playing field
than what you time in the 40.

Scheme fit plays a huge part.

Ex-Bucs safety John Lynch was a subpar athlete too, but he more than made up for it with great INT ball hawk skills and hit-punishing physicality.

Quinn's base is 3 Safeties.

Wilson has played 100 percent of defensive snaps in the last two games.

He's a strong run defender. Having him and Wilson on the field during passing downs allows you to do more without giving up too much in run defense. They've both shown an ability to pass rush as well.

Kearse has 1.5 career sacks. I don't see the pass rush/blitz skills

They seem to send him at the qb sometimes so they must like his rush ability as well.

Quinn truly is a genius with the way he deploys players of various skillsets. Somehow he manages to amplify the best part of every player's skillset. It probably helps that he has the ultimate defensive chess piece in Micah Parsons, whom I am convinced could play any position on defense outside of defensive tackle.

I'm saying I didn't see the pro bowl level play. He didn't get a pro bowl/all pro/ top 100 nod/got little attention in free agency so...........just sayin.

Donovan Wilson is playing so very well, but it's only a matter of time before incumbent starter Javon Kearse
is healthy enuff to return

- So do we bench Donovan in place of Kearse ?

- Malik Hooker is FS centerfield type, not a role suited for Donovan, nor Kearse. They both seem to be at their best when boxed closer to the line.

Donovan will still see some playing time as we employ 3 safety look in Dan Quinn's scheme.
But both Kearse and Hooker are full timers always.

It's a great luxury problem to have, at the cost of lesser playing time for Donovan.

BTW, enjoy Wilson as much as you can, as he's gonna hit the FA market with NFL teams bound to
toss a big contract at him.

Just makes zero sense to ever slow down production, but we do it here.
Should be Wilsons job to lose now.

This is the best Dallas has been at safety in a loooong time and not ironically, the best they have been in pass coverage in a long time too. I hope Jerry starts taking the S position more seriously in the future.

This did not happen overnight, Q recognized it when he was hired.
