Will Julius Jones be traded? Espn....

If time is running out and the 3rd down back is in the game, the defense is in their nickel.(halftime or at the end of the game). Not just down and distance. Also when the team is down by a lot of points.

Plus what I also was saying is that JJ doesn't get those type attempts anymore but Barber did. If you went back at JJ's past seasons he broke games open when he was running in typically passing situations when the other team was in pass rush mode and/or in nickel.

You're reaching for anything now aren't you? You got your arse handed to you. Just take it like a man and move on.

And for every long run that Barber got vs a nickel defense (A grand total of ONE) that improved his YPC, it was offset X10 every time he got a goalline/short yardage carry.

A point which has been repeatedly disproved in this thread...but please, continue to say the exact same ******** thing over and over again.

:hammer:

I'm curious to see what Julius can do behind our line, now that they added Davis, the only new starter, and at RG

continuity and better RG play will really beneficial to the team as a whole, and Julius in particular, he might find some holes to run through

It would be so insane to give up JJ! He is a great running back. He needs a good offensive line to run well. He sure didn't have that last season! He has a lot of potential.

just speculating he could. Michael Smith was giving an NFL report on sportcenter just now and said he could be shipped to Buffalo for a draft pick. One of the picks that they got for McGahee supposedly. I don't know.....we've all been disappointed with JJ to some extent, but he's always shown flashes and the O.Line has been pretty poor too.....my gut says to keep him one more year and he could bust out. Problem of course is he's a Unrestricted FA after this season. Tough call.

Your just saying that because his brother was traded and he had a better season than Julius no were not going to trade him disscusion over.

If the offensive line was near as bad as some would like to believe we would be replacing a hell of a lot more than one guard.

the left-side of our line was real good, C was average, right-side was horrible, largely in part to Rivera

People would seriously take a 3rd for JJ right now?

Thats disturbing.

The guy was 1 of 23 RBs to go for 1,000 and that was with an arguably poor run blocking line.

On top of that, MBIII and JJ are great compliments.

With that said, I dont think he has been as great as I wish he was but he deserves another year.

trade him and use that pick (along with may others) to trade up for Peterson.

Exactly.

My first post in here and I would have to pick such a hot topic. There's no way I'd trade Julius for a 3rd round draft pick. I'm just not sold on Barber being able to handle a lot more carries either. I agree for a large part of last season Barber ran better than Jones, but over the last 5 weeks of the season Jones actually had a slightly better yards per carry. Barber didn't exactly finish the season on a high note. And the way Jones ran in the playoffs was encouraging. I'm not sold on JJ but I'm not in a hurry to trade him unless I was pretty sure it'd net a better runner.

Does anyone have the stat where most of the 3rd and long carries went to?
that is usually a juicy oppurtunity for a back to get a big gainer. Since MB3 was the third down back, one can assume he got them. Next would be to see how much of his yardage was gotten on third and long. Then look at first downs and see when and where each back got carries there. Probably the best comparison and most fair. First and 10 is usually a running down unless you are behind in the second half. It was mentioned that JJ and MB3 got about the same number of 20 yd+ carries. BUT the question is which back got more oppurtunities at the coveted 3rd and long, or 2nd and long. that is gravy to RBs.

Welcome. Although its sad that your brethren are late to the party.

Personally, I think a 3rd... depending on the spot wouldnt be too little. But then again, most teams are running a 2 RB system at this point so it would depend on where you value JJ at this point.

this is a lousy RB crop this yr...I cant understand why anyone in their right mind would be discussing dumping a guy who just got 1000 yds and has numerous huge games in his short career

instant gratification syndrome, it's been 3 years, only 1 full, and Julius isn't a 1,500 yard back yet

get him outta' here!!

yeah its funny...everyone wants JuJo gone, but they all think Thomas Jones is a great RB

some of those people need to remind us again how good his brother was for his 3yrs or so...the guy was a total afterthought

it's not even that, it's the thought process that a RB taken in the 3rd round will be better than him because, well...it isn't him

makes no sense, but whatever

to expound, do you know of any 1,000 yard backs, who average 4 yards per carry for their career, who were 3rd round picks recently?

It's not like JJ is "untouchable" or destined to be the next great Dallas back. But we don't want to create a need at RB going into the draft. All the viable alternatives--save for Michael Turner--have been snapped up. Unless someone offers us a second (doubtful), I say live with him for another year.

Read the thread. It's been posted.

I'll save you trouble though, MB3 only had ONE carry over 20 yards on 3rd and long. And even if he did get "A lot" of yards on 3rd and long (he didn't) all those big gainers are nulified everytime he's on the field for short yardage. For every "long" run he got, he had a short run in goalline/short yardage situation. So it evens out.

And I don't remember the exact numbers but JuJo had almost twice as many carries in 2nd/3rd and long then MB3 had (something like 83 to 47 or something - it was posted here in the thread, look for it).

I personally don't want Julius "gone". I want Julius "better" and "more effective", and I take issue with those who blame his inability to be anything more than average thus far on things like "how he was used" and "Parcells Ruination Syndrome."
