Williams and Pickens one year wonders?

I didn’t say they should be paid top dollar. Just pay them . Currently both are on 1 year deals.

QB’s are different story . Often we see top10 caliber QB’s paid top dollar. Market price contracts aren’t always a pecking order.

And I’d argue that if Jones and Mayfield are critical to those teams success they may very well be worth as much as Allen or anyone. Their value to their respective franchises are not based on their talent level alone.
I guess my point is one season out of 4 doesn’t make you elite.

well if its that easy, why dont we just keep Pickens, go trade for Crosby and Jeffrey Simmons and win the SB ourselves. Im sure we could swing those guys for the 2 1st rd picks we got from GB.
Maybe you should try reading my original post and using your superior intelligence to figure it out. Here, let me help you...you can't pay both CD and Pickens top 5 WR money and have the highest paid QB, and then sign Williams who obviously has to be resigned, AND afford to rebuild the defense which is terrible.

Trade Pickens and go after Simmons and Max? Yeah, sounds good.

Pardon the term but we gotta go ALL-IN on these two...

I suspect we can afford them both after letting Parsons walk no problem, and it's now or never with Dak. We've got pleanty of space. Beebe, Guyton, and Booker won't need big money for a few years. That will get us through Dak's window. Williams won't cost too much.
Not only that, people don't understand that Zack Martin and Tyron Smiths contracts fall of the books next year.

We sign both and load up the D or Jerral Wayne is a moron....

I don't believe Jerral Wayne is a moron.

Of course it doesn’t . But it definitely could support fetching an extended contract. And sorry if my title was a misleading. I meant will they only be on Dallas one season.

And QB’s like Jones and Baker who propel a team to division winners and contenders would place them in upper echelon. Doesn’t have to be Elite level talent.

As far as Williams and Pickens they definitely deserve extended contracts. Can’t be top pay but if we wait until end of season and their performance is near level as now it’s going to be more expensive.

Williams we definitely need to get signed. Pickens is probably more of a WR1 who we simply may not be able to afford. But you never know if we throw a deal at him now.

I find it strange that people are saying Pickens is that great, when did he play as the only WR1 except against the Jags over the past few weeks? Arguments vary regarding his lack of production, like not having a QB, etc. Here’s a question: CeeDee played and produced with Cooper Rush for 7 games last year and even 5 games in 2022. He still had better stats than Pickens with one arm and Rush as the QB. If Pickens is paid more, I think it creates a serious locker room division for obvious reasons. Someone has to accept Smith-type pay as the clear sacrifice for the team. AJ’s money equals CeeDee’s, Smith’s equals Pickens. Don't think Pickens has earned or shown that he deserves 35/year, and challenge him to hit one year of 1,700+ yards, which we've seen the bar set at without Rush playing. This would be the year to do it, as he has Dak and CeeDee drawing the attention of top CBs or double teams.
Did you sleep through the Packers game? Where Pickens was the only WR1

both have red flags

Williams is a history of injuries
Pickens is a mental thing.

My title is a little misleading. I meant will they only be on Cowboys one season.

My OP places my thought in better context.
Williams should already be locked up. He's shown he's got his burst/agility/power back, so not locking him up for another 2-3 years right now is foolish. RBs of his caliber are very rare. He's playing at a top 5ish level right now.

You decide what your plan is and where you think the team is going. Are they a true contender and you go all in for a year? In that case you probably franchise Pickens next year. Go after a couple big time free agents on defense. Build a little depth with some one year deals.

I think it is hard to have two top dollar wide receivers, a top dollar QB, a highly paid TE, a LG at the top of the pay scale and still have enough money to pay some studs on defense. And speaking of top dollar, what are they going to have to pay Aubrey? He is an absolute weapon.

As long as the guaranteed money isnt too crazy it's not a big deal. Tee Higgins got 4/$115m with just $40m guaranteed. A similar deal for Pickens slightly inflated for a bump in the cap next year seems very reasonable.
Also aside from probably Davante Adams, who's the last big name FA wr to get a major deal from another team? Not saying it hasn't happened, just can't think of anyone off the top of my head.

So resigning Pickens is probably not doable. Can’t really afford 2 WR of that caliber.

If that’s the case then his signing was to go All In on this season.

If we could bring these two type talents to bolster our offense, why not on defense?

I mean either way... I'll take blind luck over genius any day! Seems like there's quite a bit of randomness when it comes to roster building. Remember when everyone was mad about us picking Parsons (still glad he's gone)? Then, he proceeded to ball out.

Yeah I agree. I'm not 100% sure on this theory, but it really seems like teams are less willing to pay top of market money to true FAs. Part of that could simply be that players who make it to free agency aren't quite as valued, but I think part of it too is that teams would rather pay players the massive money deals in situations where they have some extra flexibility with voided years from their previous deals/option years.

Mostly the super bowl contenders understand the super bowls are won by D, and overpaying WRs keeps you from getting there.

Probably…..i see him like Laurent Robinson

Great 1 year shipped out the next

Especially if he needs a new contract because Jerry gonna play all kinds of games
That’s probably the case. A one year lease. And that’s ok. I get it. The evermore reason to go All In . Otherwise the rental is a waste.

Pickens is the real deal.

Williams is a good, solid back that breaks a lot of tackles for extra yards.

Serviceable RBs are easier to find than stud WRs, and they tend to wear out quicker with a hard running style like Williams.

It'd be nice to keep both, but Pickens is more important to sign in my opinion.
I do believe you have a point, there. Williams can easily be cut and replaced in the draft, while Pickens is signed to his expensive contract. That should the best way this team can afford him. It'd be nice to have both, but you can't always have it all. There'll likely be very good RBs to be had in the draft.

after 7 games to call him a top 5 RB is stupid
I remember how everyone thought Julius Jones was going to be great or at least a top 10 back after his rookie year
Turned out not true
Oh, IDK, he's running like a top 5 RB.

No, not everyone at all. Julius was way too straightlinish and not a tackle breaker.

It's all about skillset.
