This is the reason Chud was let go and now the reason Lombardi and Banner are being let go (all one year after being hired)...

WG has a good thread about the topic, with more info in the NFL section....

Well I can truly say I saw the news here on CZ 1st as I didn't even realize we had an NFL GM change today until you enlightened me. Stunning. btw..i also have been to a game in Cleveland once about 20 years back. And to the Horned frogs double OT win in Morgantown 16 months ago. It was a cold afternoon. But it sure heated up at he end.

Ugh...
People really need to learn the difference between an owner and a GM.

We have one of the best if not the best owner in the NFL, there's a reason why the Cowboys franchise is worth as much as it is.

We have a mediocre GM. Jerry is a great business owner, but he needs a real GM to take care of football operations.

Please learn the difference..

What some refuse to know is that the 'Cowboys franchise' he's created gets in the way of football.

It's all on him.

The owner is responsible for the hiring and firing of the GM. On that front, he's failed miserably and single handedly turned this once proud franchise into a punch line for the rest of the NFL.

The bottom line is what determines him being a "good" or "bad" owner..

He's not an idiot, he is a multimillionaire in his own right. You try running a multimillion dollar business.

You're right, fans don't care about his bottom line, that is why this thread exists..

Again, he's not a good GM. He needs to hire a real GM (I stated that in the post you just quoted). You can blame the owner for not hiring the GM. However, overall, he's a very successful owner. Hiring a GM is only one of his MANY responsibilities.

FANS DO NOT CARE ABOUT HIS MONEY!!!!!!!

Browns replace failures. We promote them, maintain them, and handout contract extensions.

Trying to improve beats just talking about improvement.

One guy changes everything - 3different head coaches and 3 different GMs in the last 400 days

And the other guy wouldnt even change his underwear if he pooped in it

Honestly we're pretty much the browns with a shinier perception + a Quarterback.

Worse owner or GM? Jerry is and always has been one of the best owners in all of sports.

And I concur with the opinion that this is a pretty bad first post.

Good boss, yes!!! Good owner, absolutely not!!! An owner who cares about his product is a good owner. JJ only cares about what his product provides to himself, not what it looks like or how it is portrayed by his customers.

Owner or GM? Because those are 2 totally different things. Jerry is a great owner. But a horrible GM. And his ego will not let him step aside. I guess you can fault him as an owner for not firing the GM (himself) but other than that, he's the most respected owner in football.

The Browns are a joke. Just because you change all the time does not equal something positive.

Not even close to being true. They have had one winning season the last 10 years.

Want to go even further back? Since 1989, when Jerry took over Dallas, the Browns have had 4 winning seasons and one playoff win. That's 25 years.

We are not even close to being Cleveland.

Sounds like lots of hope there..

Lol. Direct evidence in refutation to the ridiculous comments by people on this thread.

I'll bet you $1 that people will rationalize it away to fit personal agendas. $1!

The NFL is a money making machine. A monkey could make a fortune as an owner.

Dallas sucks. Maybe not to the same extent but we've amounted to just about nothing for quite awhile.

The only reason we are relevant is because of our popularity. If not for that.. We'd be the Browns.

Again, false. Quit overreacting and calling us the Browns. They don't even compete at any level each and every season. They finish last every single year.

I know this era sucks but it's not even close to being what Cleveland has thrown out there.

Switch Weeden with Romo and it wouldnt surprise me if they get a better record than us.
Cleveland is a talented and young team, just have failed to get their player in the most important position.

Thomas + Mack are good base for OLine
Gordon + Cameron are a good WR+TE duo
Their D Line is great
They have TJ Ward and Haden in their secondary.

ILB, QB and RB are their flaws. But RB can easily be fixed.
