I like him but I dont see him as being a better prospect than a lot of those second tier RBs like Charles, CJ, Jones etc. If we are going RB in the first round I only want Mendenhall, Stewart of DMac.

And while i like Rice I think hes probably the most overrated prospect on these boards battling Schmitt although it looks like people have generally come to their senses regarding him.

He benefited from Teel getting almost 300 yards a game, two 1000 yard receivers and one of the best offensive lines in college football. hes got good speed and hes lightning quick but hes not powerful at all. Every time I see a defender getting their hands on him, I see Rice going down.

People compare him to Emmitt but I think thats absurd. I see him as more of a Warrick Dunn type back. Thats very very good but i just don't see him being so much better that we should reach for him.

I also note that there are a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there, but I agree with cobra when he says "siitng on your couch watching college football is not scouting." i know youre all pretty knowledgeable but when hes a concensus 2nd to 3rd round pick, maybe just maybe they lknow a bit more than the rest of us.

I think most people not named theo can accept that.
LOL @ he benefitted from Teel.

I've seen enough of RU's offense to know that Teel benefitted from Rice, not the other way around.

He carried that team and they will miss his presence.

WHAT???!!! I havent read one response, i just had to respond immediately. *** are you talking about?

No! And I dont even think you could find ONE of the 6,324 draft web sites out there that would put his talent level in the top 25. But then again, this is ********, the thread is deseigned to get a response...and it has. Congrats, but it aint gonna happen brotha, aint even a REMOTE possibility.

In the words of Hostile "Trust me...I KNOW." (no, that shouldnt reassure anyone, but jerry's comments about rb depth and the fact that we do employ more than 2 collegiate scouts should)
Sporting News had him as the 14th ranked guy...

Overall.

This was BEFORE the combine btw.

Yeah most of these people that don't think he's very good are only going by what they read on draft sites.

Try forming your own opinion. IMO, he's the 2nd best RB in the draft.

I put him in the top 3 at least.I still can't get over 3 yrs. and over 900 carries and NOT ONE FUMBLE. That to me is an amazing statistic. I would bet Billy P. has his eye on him.

I rate him #3 behind DMC and Mendenhall, slightly ahead of Felix and Stewart.

This is taking the Stewart toe injury into account. I think he'll be a horse for somebody.

Mike Hart is not a bad back either. Someone is going to be happy with the player they get imo.

That really is amazing! Not one fumble in over 900 carries?!

I will add that the Huddle Report LOVES R Rice.

It is a very interesting write-up.

I'd post it, but it's a pay site, but we did have a thread on R Rice about a month ago which had that and some other write-ups on him as well. I just thought that the Huddle Report's write-up was unique in the sense it discussed how well he sets up his blocks, etc.

I'm too lazy to change the RB order of my sig but I do believe that Rice is definitely one of the top 3 RB's in the draft. I have McFadden, Mendenhall, then Rice. I'm not sure why he is getting such a bad rep on this forum...maybe because the people posting negative about him have no idea what kind of player he is. The only reason why he isn't higher on many scout pages is because many think he is too undersized to succeed in the NFL, but he has the same build as young Emmitt did.

Rice may not have gamebreaker speed but it is more than adequate to get the job done. To answer the original question, I would be more than satisfied if we did draft Rice at #28 but I doubt it will happen.

Yes.

You don't draft 2nd round guys in the first round. That isn't getting full value for the pick. Additionally, if you take him at 28 you now have to over pay him which makes a bad pick even worse.

If you want Rice that bad, trade down and take him.

Rice is too much like Barber. IMO you want your 2 best backs to be alittle different, ex: A bruiser like Barber, then maybe a Chris Johnson, or Jammar Charles, speed guys. Or a guy that has speed and Power like Jonathan Stewart.:star:

The best RB should get the bulk of the carries. If it's MBIII or not. I love MBIII but if someone comes in undrafted or the first pick of the draft and is clearly better, that man should play. Period.

MBIII should be given the opportunity to carry the load, but not at the expense of passing up an elite talent should one arrive at Valley Ranch.

I would have a huge problem taking Rice in round 1...that's just crazy in my opinion, but if Dallas did so, I would shake my head in disbelief and doubt, but hope and assume that they had him ranked as a first round talent, even if no one else did.

There are plenty of RB's in the draft...unless the talent pool at CB and WR really get diluted, I just don't see us taking a RB in round 1 when we are simply looking for a backup.

Why does everyone say we are looking for a backup for Marion Barber? We're not! We are looking for starter 1a/1b. This guy is going to split carries with MBIII whether he takes the 1st snap of the game or not. Come on. You guys know this. Just like we all know that JJ was the "starter" last season MBIII got the most carries.Whoever we draft to go with Barber is going to be getting carries just like MBIII, so he will not be a "backup". Yeesh! :bang2:
