Would real grass cause less injuries than field turf?

It must be hard they still haven’t figured out how to do it. You would think if you can put men on the moon, it could be done.
It can be done... as long as it is maintained frequently and in a billion dollar business, that should be no problem. The reason they don't is because lots of these stadiums are also used for concerts, rodeos, special events and so they rather be cheap and use artificial turf. The almighty dollar supercedes any and all other reasons for common sense. If you took a poll among players, i am sure the majority would pick natural grass, they should know.

I can see no logical way a ruptured Achilles could be caused by the turf field.
Simple. If your foot is at an extreme ankle, a grass field will tend to give way somewhat, while artificial turf tends to grip securely. Rogers foot got trapped like on fly-catcher paper. There are many folks talking about injuries like the one last night caused by fake turf.

The players overwhelmingly are pretty passionate about seeing grass fields for all 32 teams.

Aside from the injuries...the rubber pellets on those fields are nasty. On a rainy game like Sunday night in NY you see it clinging to the players hands, arms, face, helmet, to everything. Got into one player's eye and he had to go out for a few plays.

They grow all kinds of food indoors nowadays. So Im sure they can do it with grass. I’m not sure why they don’t.
im guessing because of all the other functions that take place inside these stadiums.

I like grass cause the players like grass.

Unless there is significant data showing they turf is better, then it’s just a money equation and I could care less about teams saving money on surfaces.

It’s like advocating for a different brand of beer because they paid more sponsorship cash.

In Vegas, they roll the grass outside to grow, then roll it back in for games. Ridiculous, isn't it?
I know that's what they do here in Arizona.

No one would know for sure and there's no need to know for sure but I know this I know people who have wrecked their Achilles by just taking a step or going up a step or down a step or walking off a curb under normal regular everyday walking it can happen in a moments notice it doesn't take much.. So right now I'm not buying into the hype that everyone's against turf all of a sudden I mean how about all of them decades people were on that nasty astroturf the heart is concrete under there and there were other problems so it's not like people are dropping like flies I mean this is happening occasionally but football people have always got hurt they're always blowing an ACL they're always hurting a knee or a shoulder or an Achilles.. I don't buy into the hype but I know it can happen so I can't say it won't happen or hasn't happened.

I mean big dudes going full speed grab you and twist you and then pulls you to the ground and you resist a little, pop! Add in his age as well and his lack of preseason because he had some kind of deal with his calf which could also have led to this if he was favoring that leg I mean there's anything could have happened..
What is the argument for turf though?

Because owners spend less money?

Data being equal, give me grass.

Data last year suggested injury rate of .048 per 100 plays on turf vs .035 on grass. Long term data points to grass be slightly safer, but based on what the NFL shares thats basically .156 more player injuries per team last year. The year prior showed no significant difference.
If it's a league-sponsored study, which I would guess, I wouldn't trust it. League doesn't want to pay for it so they'll claim whatever. Players know their bodies. FIFA soccer requires all games be played on grass.

If they can roll the field out of the stadium on rails like the Raiders and Cardinals it can be done. My point was it can’t be done if the field is left indoors 24/7.
Sounds like an owner problem

It takes lot of work and money to keep over 57,000 square feet of grass nicely manicured, green and plush.

This is it.

Owners want their arenas to make cash all year long. If turf is cheaper and easier to deal with to let Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, that’s all they care about.

It’s not the owner problem it’s a stadium problem. You need a stadium designed for the field to be rolled in and rolled out.

Well, I’d argue that since owners get *massive* financial assistance from the counties where they build stadiums, should plan for that.

To be honest, this is a taxpayer issue and the impact is really only how much of the owners profit margin suffers from taking a bigger cut at the time they build.

Buy a team see if you can start a trend.
Come on. That’s not even a rebuttal. I shouldn’t have replied.

But here I am.

Feel free to tell us about the delicate flavor of the boot leather worn by our corporate overlords.

Vote for the next bond package that sacrifices police, teachers and medical care so that we can get a new stadium with more insanely priced tickets and another level of suites.
