Would Romo request a trade?

No. That is the short answer. I understand many on here do not understand how the salary cap works. It makes things very difficult when you want to trade a player. You very rarely see trades involving players with big contracts.

I don't think anyone would give up much for Romo. No one really knows if he can/will be able to play football for much longer.

They retired Aikman. He didn't retire on his own and while I know it's the official story that Troy retired because of back issues, the back story is that the team cut Troy because of concerns and possible pressure from the League Office over growing attention to Concussions. The League has known and feared the ramification of concussion for years. I know that the NFL has been tracking them as far back as 1996. If they did it with Troy, I don't see why they wouldn't do it with Tony. Not saying they would but I am saying that they've done it before.
Maybe I'm not reading this wrong, but I don't think Tony has ever had a concussion in his career. How could they force him out over concussions.

But yeah, Troy says he retired because of back issues, but we all know because of all the concussions

It's a dumb premise, but an interesting question. I'm sure Favre never thought he would leave Green Bay and play for the Vikings. I actually can totally see Tony playing somewhere else for a season or two. Once your career is over it's over, so don't leave with any doubt.

If Romo were released it could happen that's how Favre ended up playing elsewhere but Favre didn't have the injury issues that caused him to miss a lot of games like Romo. I just can't see Romo lasting much longer with all the injuries especially to his back that are costing him the better part of two seasons. He's been having to be held out of practices to give him rest each week, I'm not sure that would fly with another team. He's got to start thinking about his quality of life after football. I'll be surprised if he lasts another 2 seasons.

If I were Romo and Prescott turned out to be a real stud, I know I'd see if I could get a trade to a team like Denver where I might get a ring sooner than I would here in Dallas.

Granted, salary cap issues are the biggest hurdle in trading someone like Romo.

Do people have any idea when the trade deadline is?

Aside from the other 89 reasons why this thread is dumb

The trade deadline would have passed

You're reading it wrong. The point is, that Aikman was forced out because of injuries (concussions), and taking that into consideration, it's not at all unimaginable that Tony could be forced out due to his own lingering injuries.

I'm a Dak fan as much as anyone, I'm also a big Romo fan, but for this to happen Dak is going to have to play the first 8 games at an MVP level. If we are undefeated, Dak is has the highest QB rating in the league and we're just a offensive juggarnaut then the discussion will come up. But we most likely won't be and not because of Dak but we wouldn't be with Romo because of the defense. Dak would have to play better than Manning and Brady for it to even be an issue. Most people in Dallas or outside of Dallas would agree that Romo is one of the top QB's in the league. To unseat him Dak will have to be the best QB in the league, numbers wise when Romo is ready to come back.

If we go 4-4 or 5-3, or even 6-2 then we know we got our guy for the future, because even going 500 for a rookie QB is pretty good, cuz he's learning on the fly.
A completely healthy Romo gives us the best chance to win this year.
Now I will say that Dak may be that special player and be our franchise guy. But Romo spoiled us by taking over for Bledsoe and playing at a pro bowl level. But Romo sat and learned for 4 years. But everyone is saying Dak is mature beyond his years so hopefully it won't take him four years to be able to play at a pro bowl level. But this season if he can keep us in the hunt until Romo comes back then he has above and beyond played above expectations and is our guy for the future.

It also helped that Aikman wasn't any good any more. We don't really know what we have with Tony right now, but all that matters is what Jerry and co. believe and there's no question that they believe that Romo is still one of the best.

The Cowboys will have to have a near perfect record before Red would not make Romo the starter once he is healthy. Red/Jerry might push to keep him out of action for a couple of weeks longer than necessary if they have a winning record, but Jerry would want him back as soon as Dak lost a game.

If this year does not go well for Romo, I think he will retire.
Possibly this.

I'm not sure there is a scenario where, if healed, Romo wouldn't become the starter again this year.
I guess if it got to game 9 and they were 8-0. It would have to be better than 75% because the team has been winning at better than that clip the last two years w/ Romo has played. So maybe 6-1 or 7-1?
Hard to imagine though...this year.

For now, I just want to see Dak keep getting better. The future looks bright so far.

If he wants to play somewhere else, he will have no problem getting a job, even if he doesn't play a game this year. It's all about want to.

He would have a problem if he requested a trade because even though he's still a very good QB he can't stay healthy, therefore no one would offer a pick worthy of trading him for. The Cowboys aren't going to move him for a low round pick they'll want at least a #2 or #3. We probably could have gotten a #1 for him this past offseason from Denver who was desperate to replace Manning but Romo's latest injury would keep teams away from him in a trade. Hard to prepare with a QB who has the injury history Romo's had especially the past 2 seasons. His back injuries would scare teams and money would also be an issue with him. I would go as far as to say Romo is one more significant injury away from being done.

The irony would be go to Denver and win a championship - maybe trade witten there at the same time.

No doubt.

imo, If he was only out 4-5 games (so returned in time for a playoff run), I think he'd make the Vikings a contender.
They have almost everything Dallas has on offense but MUCH more on defense.

But he does not want to leave here. He's already said the feeling wouldn't be the same to a rental QB vs doing with the franchise you love.

How much longer Romo remains with the Cowboys will likely depend on how Dak performs this season.

Minnesota too

If Bridgewater was out next year, I could definitely see it. I doubt they sit him next year for Romo. Its possible and a definite need

P Lynch probably needs 2 years in the bench. Romo could step in there easily. Az would be the one that has been a QB (I have never been a Palmer fan though)
