Would you be mad if Jerry drafted Manzeil?

See the problem is we need to forget about this 2-3 year window. Tony Romo has already been a starter for 8 years and this team has one playoff win to show for it. That is in no way to say that Romo is to blame for all of the short comings of this team. But you cant tell me any other team in the league who would sit on this plateau for 8 going on 9 years and not even TRY to make a change at QB. Logic says its moronic to try to do the same thing with the same guy for 10-11 years who couldnt do it the first 8.

The problem with your logic is this team has made the decision financially to continue on the Romo ride. You can sit there as a fan and say you'd make the change but unfortunately, it's clear the organization doesn't think like that. If Romo was nearing the end of his contract, your argument would have more merit but the fact is this team invested a ton of money into Romo, they still owe him a lot of money, he has a big cap hit the next couple of years.................. all that adds up to the realization that this organization is banking on Romo being the QB of this team the next 2-3 years.

So drafting Manziel would be idiotic IMO because you are wasting a prime draft pick on a guy who will sit on the bench for 2-3 years when you could have drafted a guy who might make an immediate impact now and get this team back into the playoffs.

Who is this player that is going to come in to the league and make this team playoff bound? I'm curious

I have no idea. The point wasn't for me to name a guy specifically.

The point being that you have a 2-3 year window with Romo left. Which helps you put a better team around him? Drafting Manziel at 16 or drafting another positional player who could be an immediate impact player. It's not impossible or improbable that a kid we pick at 16, could be an immediate contributor and help this team.

Again, in theory, you aren't necessarily wrong. Maybe it's time to end the Romo reign. But unfortunately, the reality is that with the money invested in Romo and the money and cap hits that are coming in the next 2-3 seasons, the organization has made the determination that the Romo reign isn't ending any time soon as long as he is healthy. With that reality in mind, taking Manziel would be pretty foolish IMO.

Manziel will be a bust so I will be mad because of several reasons

1. We will not have done our homework and picked a future bust
2. We will not have improved the team around romo thereby reducing our chances of competing for a championship
3. We will have created a HUGE distraction in a team that already appears unfocused
4. Manziels biggest issue is immaturity, lack of focus and discipline. Those are exactly the problems we have on this team.
5. This will be a decision based on money in the joneses pockets and not a team decision, pure and simple .

BTW, many of the same people telling us it would a bad decision in this thread will be lining up to praise and defend Jerry for doing it

I will go on record saying that drafting Manziel would be one if the few times that I would agree with Jerry. As for building around Romo, several years have been wasted making this team "Romo friendly". If it hasn't been friendly enough by now, it sure won't happen in these last couple of years of his career. I think it is time to move on and build for the future.

Manziel would be an insurance policy. For example, when you buy a new luxury car(Romo), get a good insurance policy(JF). Do not get liability only(Orton et al.), get full coverage....comp, collision and uninsured motorists.

One defensive player in the 1st is not going to be a difference maker this year, especially if their top 2 or 3 prospects are off the board. We all know Romo is our guy but what if, just what if his back gives him trouble and he is unable to perform? Johnny may very well be a flop too but that is a risk worth taking if he is there over some guy projected to be good a couple of years down the line.

I don't want Dallas to trade up either and lose picks but if he is there at 16, pull the trigger. However, this is all moot, Johnny will not be there at 16, he will not even make it out of the top 10.

would all be much madder than me...and I would not be very happy.

I will say this, if by some otherworldly chance they took him, I would of course has his back going forward.
Now if we had to take a QB and we passed on Bortles, I may even be more upset.

There is no rookie that will impact the team enough to get them to the playoffs. It is true that the contract is a big issue with replacing Romo, but with his injury history, another QB will get playing time and may take over sooner than expected.

I should have been more clear. I didn't mean one guy was going to be the difference in making the playoffs or not. I was trying to say that a positional player drafted at 16 has a higher likelihood of helping this team than a backup QB, which is what Manziel would be.

I am starting to like the idea of Manziel. There is something about him that screams winner, my only concern is his footwork and whether or not his body will be able to take the beating if he continues to improvise at the NFL level.

I'd be mad because as soon as Romo throws a pick, idiot fans and media types will be clamoring for Manziel. It'll be a circus as long as he's on the bench.

Yes - he may succeed in the NFL, but not in Dallas. Too much hype, pressure and strip clubs. I hope the Browns draft him.

He'll get really injured then stop that. That's my guess.

Many disagree with this. Polian has said many times that one thing he's learned is that it's rare for guys to change their DNA. In other words, while possible, it's probably unlikely that Manziel will ever stop playing the way he's always played. People thought Vick would learn to slide or get out of the bounds or throw the ball away instead of taking hits and even after he got hurt and mauled, he still refused to preserve his body.

I suspect Manziel has the same DNA.

It would make for an entertaining scene on the war cam...unless they covered it up so they would not have a replay of last year.

I am pretty sure he will be drafted way before 16 but if he does fall Jerry will need a straight jacket to keep him away from making that pick.
