Rico Dowdle as a third back/special teamer would be a nice re-signing.

But think about this- Dowdle being your best backfield option is the same as the 1990's dynasty Cowboys relying on Tommie Agee or Derrick Gainer as their top back.

Younger fans, feel free to Google those guys. They were strictly backups.

Emmit was slower.
WHAT!!! you are comparing an UDFA who barely hung around in NFL and just because we have a stupid GM he made a team to a HOF RB who has the most rushing yards ever!!!

Emmitt had one of the best feet in the NFL on how he went through traffic and he had OUTSTANDING vision, where he saw the play develop way before it actually got there....
Rico has bad feet and bad bad bad vision. I can't tell you how many times I am thinking, where the heck is he running to!!!

its not about slower. its about being a good football player. Rico is not very good.

Again football is a complimentary sport. If Rico had Emmitt's OLine/team he would be a good player. Although he would not be close to being Emmitt.

Let Rico test the market , Jerry is OVER PAYING everyone !
Jerry once again has zero leverage at the RB position. Once the season is over we have only Deuce under contract.

For some reason it seems like Jerry likes to have 70%+ of our roster on 1 year deals.

If you are on a 1 year deal what are your biggest concerns??? They are definitely not winning a SB.

he would be aboce average, but not great. therein lies the difference. everyone keeps talking about the OL of the cowboys and none of them except one are in HOF or even considered. we had a way undersized center and a few guys you never heard of until emmitt. Emmitt was as much responsible for their success as opposed to the otherway around.

I can't believe you are even considering making this comparison and pumping up Rico!!!! dude, stop it.

Who made a comparison. If you don't think Rico would be a better player with the talent Emmitt had around him you are crazy.

If you think Emmitt would be the all time leading rusher with our current OLine you are even more crazy.

How much are we talking about? I don't dislike Rico. He has a good game against Atlanta. Is he a premiere back? No. Is he good enough to back up a premiere back? Yes.

He shouldn't be expensive, and he is a solid #2 RB, so why not re-sign him?
Almost have to resign him. We have basically no running backs signed for next season.

What GM consistently does this to a positional group?

Rico would be better. but by how much and would he be a difference maker. I think not. Emmitt wouldn't be an all time rusher, but would be heck of a lot better than what we have.
great players utilize what they are given and make great things happen. if Rico played behind that line, none of them would be in probowl.

no,

No, In 2025 the Cowboys have a lot of free agents, therefore a lot of holes to fill, I see selecting Ashton Jeanty in 2025, and along with Hunter Luepke and Deuce Vaughn it is more than enough.
Jeanty is immediately going to be your #1 RB plus cost you your #1 pick. It’s looking like that pick is going to be pretty high too.

Would you risk losing out on a big DT like Deone Walker from UK or Kenneth Grant from UM. Not that Jerry will ever pick the right DT from Michigan tho lol.

I think Rico appears better than he is simply due to the lack of talent around him. There are a plethora of starting RBs who have been taken in the mid-to-late rounds and would be available to Dallas.

People are too glib about replacing Rico with a mid round draft pick.

Sure, you *can* get a guy in the 4th and 5th to replace him, but that guy is no guarantee, while Rico is a known commodity. He's not great but you can run an offense with him.

PFF has him 23rd in the league. 74.0 PFF Score.

And receiving, 2nd season he's 120+ for QB rating when thrown to. Actually 131+. Highest on the team.

He's been sneaky good for us. I expected little of him, but he's exceeded what we had a right to expect, and I give him props for it.

I hope we sign him. I hope for less than 4mil a year, but he's reasonably worth that. He's the kind of guy you make a good team out of. Cheap overachievers. We could have 15 Ricos for 1 Dak, and that's at the 4mil/yr we think is "too rich for my blood".

Which goes to show the disaster that is Dak's contract.
