Wouldn't it be great if our 'backups', k.o. the 'Skins' playoff hopes?

Come on man, nothing is guaranteed, even with backups, you just never know who it will turn out. Perhaps you meant "should", don't know.

How many times have we've seen our lesser opponents say "on any given sunday" comment?

I think we have a good shot with backups in second half, and I believe we just might pull it out in late 4th quarter.

Well said. ;)

We will play our starters throughout the first half. And if we get an early lead, and are running the ball well, then we might sit some before the start of the second. No point in getting into a slug fest with a desperate Commanders struggle for the play-offs. We need our guys healthy.

Keep in mind, the Commanders play dirty. If they thought they could take out some of our key players, knowing they play us twice in a short window of time, they will. The only way we could loose is if we beat ourselves. And what better way to hand over our success, than to go into the play-offs riddled with injuries. We are walking a thin line as it is.

Let's not be stupid. Momentum is important, but if we aren't capable of sustaining momentum at will, then we are doomed. I say we have the ability to rise to each and every challenge at will.

Let's approach this conservatively. Pound out the ball on the ground, and control the clock. Jump out to an early lead. Keep it low scoring, and pull out a win with our second string, in the second half.

I agree. Now I do think Wade has to get the players to focus on this game and have them ready. I have heard so many former players and coaches say that when you are not playing at full speed and not focused that is the time where players will get injured. Players have to treat this as any other game and keep playing hard until Phillips chooses to take them out.

Don't count on it. If our backups play the majority of the game, expect the Skins to make the playoffs.

I don't like it, but backups are backups. It's not like 1992 when we had Pro Bowl backups.

The drop off from our starters to our backups is pretty severe.

Um.... We do have Pro Bowl backups.

Please see Exhibit A: Marion Barber the Third.

The X factor in this game is Julius Jones, I think he should get 25 carries - and actually contribute at some point this season. What better way to end his Cowboy's regular season career, by going off for 150 against the Skins.

However this is JuJo, so very wishful thinking.
Not going to happen, JJ will do what he has done all year and thats run not to get hurt. He knew from the begining of the year this was his last here and ran every game as if he was afraid to get hurt and ruin any chance at a big pay day, anit going to get much as a URFA running back and a tore up knee.

I think this will be a difficult game to win. Washington's entire season is on the line and with Dallas sitting some and very well could limit other starters it would not come as a shock if we do not win. I think if Dallas can get off to a quick start and weather the emotions of the skins at the get go then we may walk away with the win but it is hard when one team has everything on the line while the other doesn't.
Didn't we have a lot on the line last year when the Eagles came to town? It was for the division crown I believe. That moron, rag-armed, loser (according to most of the posters on this site) Jeff Garcia was going to get crushed, beaten, manhandled, etc. by the superior Cowboys. Well, guess what? Having something on the line didn't mean much to us, but I think Gibbs is a much better coach than BP, so he may be able to get more out of his team with "everything on the line".

To be really truthful, the 'Skins remind me of the '71 Cowboys. I was watching their story on NFLN the other day, and after a totally miserable start, everything started to click for them and they went on to win the SB against the Dolphins. We seem to be losing momentum; this is why I think it so important for us to play enough of the right people to win. Not so we don't have to play Washington 3 times, but to go into the POs on a winning note...

I don't think this game is unwinnable. I do think the skins will be favored when most realize the Cowboys will not play their starters the entire game and the skins with so much on the line will be emotionally high in this game. I think if Dallas can weather the early emotions and lets the game settle in then we very well could knock them off.

For me though I don't care about Washington I only care that Dallas is able to get out of this game with no injuries. As for momentum I expect Dallas to be sky high for their playoff game in Dallas and I think this team will rise to the occasion no matter what takes place this weekend.

How difficult it is to obtain or keep good backups is not the issue here. If you don't have the personnel, you won't have the result....

You don't get it.

I think you would get along well with Stranded Cowboy.

Aren't they playing most of their backups, anyway (not by choice, obviously)?

This is what I came here to say. We're starting five backups (plus an additional backup to the backup) because of injury. So why people downplay the Cowboys' chances, I don't know. I suppose it would make you guys feel better about losing.:D

note: we have been missing our 1000 yard #2 receiver, our starting nose tackle for the whole year. missed our starting linebacker and both our corners for various games this year. we will be without our starting center this week along with our starting #1 receiver. our SS was suspended for a game. i could keep going. in the end, every team has injury problems. the better teams tend to deal with them without everything crying about it.

So what you are saying is that you have had one season ending injury for a starter. And another starter has missed practically the whole year. You must admit that is pretty fortunate compared to a lot of other teams out there. But I digress, my point was simply that even if the Cowboys rest some of their starters, they will essentially be on even ground with the Skins and shouldn't make excuses.

Talk about ending the year with a 'Bang'! I am looking forward to seeing how well Stanback (as many on this board have stated) is doing, along with Alan Ball, Courtney Brown, and maybe even Doug Free. And of course, anything Terry Glenn can gives is a bonus! Happy Holidays everyone!

Of all that will take place this weekend I am most interested in seeing Stanback on the field. I think he's going to be a star. :starspin

There's no excuses, it's simple, we've accomplished everything that we wanted to for the regular season. There's nothing for us to play for except finishing out the season and moving on to the playoffs. Your BUMS on the other hand haven't accomplished jack and this game basically could decide your season. We're trying to keep guys healthy for the post season and your BUMs are trying to make post season. It's simple as that!!!!!!

I totally disagree with you. Our backups are very good and BJ is no Tavaris Jackson. BJ's arm may be weak but he's a very smart QB and knows where to go with the ball. I think this is going to be a good game and I see us winning it and sending the Foreskins home. They are extremely cockey right now and primed for a butt whuppin. They've won 3 straight but look at the QB's they've beaten, Eli, Rex, and Jackson. I'd take BJ over all 3 of those cats. We will WIN at FedEx!!!!

I can see I'm going to be doing alot of multiquoting aka Zrinkill after this game :)

Do what you want but I think our backups are gonna beat you at FedEx.. You guys are way too cockey and BJ isn't Tavaris Jackson, Train Rex, or Eli. Remember, Trent Edwards beat you at FedEx. BJ is very capable of doing the same...
