If that diagnosis was aimed at me it was a steeeeeeeeeee-rike.

Good reading though.

Did you make a comment referring to pessimism? Thanks for your curiousity however.

No, I pretty much like the pessimism as much as I do the optimism. I'm rare that way. I find the pessimists who get their undies in a wad over the optimists and optimists who get their undies in a wad over the pessimists about equally funny.

If RW is indeed on the block, I'd say it is a near certainty that Dallas will be involved in a conversation with Detroit and RW's agent to acquire his services. Whether such talks would lead to a trade remains to be seen.

Also, it's much easier to trade a guy in the last year of his rookie contract than the first year of his second contract.

No kidding.

But that wont stop the minions from posting countless threads on Roy Williams to Dallas scenarios....

Just out of curiosity, why should it?

Trade Scenarios are kicked around this place constantly, why is that such a bad thing?

Now some of the logic being used by some to aver that a Cowboys trade for Roy Williams is eminent is a bit flawed but there is some facets of this story that could point to a trade at some point.

Yep.

I have to think that it would very prudent for Jerry Jones to at least inquire about Roy Williams' status.

I think Jerry Jones at least do that.

This will be fun, sorting out the RW (CB) and RW (WR) coming-and-going posts...

Supposedly Roy Williams didn't like Mike Martz offense anyway, so it's probably a false rumor, unless the Lions just want to torture him.

As opposed to a 'true' rumor?

It's simple... Alex doesn't like players from the U of Texas. ;)

And like a couple other people said, it does make a difference where the player wants to be when you're talking about what could otherwise be a one-year rental. No one's going to give up a first-day pick for a player only to lose him only a few months later.

Well, no one other than the Commanders. :muttley:

This question is not necessarily just for you Mike, but who RW's agent?

Thanks! :starspin

That's all I am saying kmd. I believe that because of his love of this team there's a better than average chance something could happen.

For the record I "predicted" this in September, 3 months before the Lions hinted at putting him on the trading block. I wasn't pulling that prediction out of thin air.

OFfer a third and demand a 5 week to negotiate with him. Jones can get that done. Do it and we go in the draft with a big monkey off our back. Lets just hope Jurasek can help him stay healthy and Id like to see him in training ASAP.

I'm assuming that a 3rd rounder is your starting point in negotiations but would you feel that a 2nd round pick would be too high a price?

The contract issue is there only because Roy is coming into the last year of his deal this season.

So, yeah, whoever gets him is going to have to give him a new deal. But for a 26 year old, Pro Bowl caliber, reciever it will be worth it.

I don't know that he's going to be in Dallas but I'd sure like him to be.

Pros and Cons re WR Roy Williams:

Don't know enough about his performances in Detroit and what is behind any problems he might have had with the coaching staff and/or his injury history. Should he actually be a good WR with talent to become a legit #1 or #2 WR, or is he already there, here's my views:

Yes we might have a chance:

1. Only 1 more year left on his current contract.
2. He's unhappy in Detroit for several? reasons.
3. Reportedly publicly said he'd like to return/play in Texas.
4. Cowboys really need a young talented WR who can step in as our legit #2 to help limit opponents from total focus on TO and stretch the field with his speed.
5. We've got a franchise QB who Jerry Jones is now responsible to for providing the offensive weapons we need to win the SB.
6. Any WR looking to move to another team should consider there potential to make the playoffs and most importantly whether they've got a good QB who makes the WR look good and can get his team to the SB.
7. Money/draft pick - If we can get him for a 2nd, I'm on board but Jerry has to get RW signed to a 5 contract which fits into our cap.

No chance in ###:
1. RWilliams comment re playing in Texas could just have been a throwaway and not really meant.
2. He wants lots of money and will go to any NFL team who will pay him the big bucks and make him their #1 WR.
3. We don't like how he plays so Jerry unwilling ante up.
4. He's has major off field problems (not that I know of but thought I'd throw it in) which prohibit Jerry from going after him.
5. The whole scenario goes bust and RWilliams decides he loves Detroit and wants to stay there.

actually a fourth like with the Moss deal would be my starting point. but it really depends on the market. at the end of the day i wouldnt freak out if we gave up #60 for him but if theya re asking for that we can do better.

you left out that the lions coaching staff thinks hes unmotivated whcich taken into consideration him alwys being dinged is problematic. TO would eat him for lunch for dragging backside.

If...there is truth to this rumor about Detroit wanting a 2nd rounder for him, I would think that the 49ers would make this deal happen.

I dont. Smith took a major step back and there top pick is gone to the Pats. If Im the 49ers Id go for their high third and wouldnt budge.

They still have the Colts 1st rounder though....

Really, they need to get Smith some help. They have no one at WR. Darrell Jackson is decent, but they have no real viable threat.

And Davis hasn't panned out yet.
