Because far too many fans are talking about it. Rarely does it work out even close to what popular opinion formulates as likely.

That and I have special tea leaves.

I guess you and Martin Luther King Jr. wouldn't get along too well

you can't stand the dream

btw, what specifically are you doing besides being a wet-blanket?

Roy Williams would not be as good as Fitz. No way Bidwell pays him the money his contract calls for this season.

FA market may be weak but there is more than one fish in the ocean when you are fishing for a WR this off season.

That's no different from the childlike logic of this equation:

Detroit is exploring trade options for Williams + Williams is from Texas and said he wouldn't mind being "home" = HE'S A COWBOY

How exactly is this childlike logic?

FACT.....Roy Williams is in the last year of his deal and he is walking next yr.
FACT.....Detroit knows this and wants something before he walks.
FACT.....He wants to come "home" to Texas.
FACT....Only 2 NFL teams in Texas, Cowboys and Texans.

So it doesnt take a great leap of logic to conclude he is going to be either a Cowboy or a Texan.

We have a need for a WR and RW likes Texas. Its not that much a stretch from there.

It's more than just "liking" Texas. He has a child in Odessa. He returns to Texas whenever the Lions have two days off.

Recently, he mentioned "white picket fence" in a discussion about Kitna and religion. That's surely a reference to marriage and/or settling down.

Now, clearly, he could just move his child and his girlfriend to Detroit, but there's a reason he's been commuting back and forth to Texas.

The biggest thing is that he has no leverage. Unless he's made it clear that he won't sign a new contract with the Lions, I can't see why they would trade him at this juncture. And, they could always franchise him for 2009, though he might not be worth the cap hit.

Interesting. Fits right in with something I've heard.

I would be tickled to see this happen. Williams would make our offense even more potent.

I remember TO wanting to leave San Fran a few years ago. He WANTED to play in Philly. The Niners had a deal in place with the Ravens (I don't know if the deal was made to "stick it" to TO or not). Anyway, in the end, TO got what he wanted.....a trade to Philly. For a 2nd and 5th (IIRC)....And he was a GREAT player then.

So, it's not out of the realm of possibility for Roy Williams to manipulate a trade to Dallas.

But a couple of things have to happen. First of all, Roy has to be pushing for this. Right now, there's no strong evidence to prove that he is. Secondly, Detroit would have to "back down" to the player. This is something that I don't see Millen doing.

I would give no second thought at using one of our firsts to land Roy. The track record on first round WRs is not good. Roy is a proven player. The reason we were excited about having two firsts is that it was going to help improve our team. Roy will do that.

Now, the realist in me says that the chances of this happening are very, very slim. But there is the possibility.

BTW....if he does come here, how would you feel about him wearing #88?

If by Fitz you mean Fitzgerald in Arizona...NO THANKS.

Talk about cap problems. You realize, do you not, that Arizona is FRANTICALLY trying to get him to restructure his deal because since he met all these insane incentives, and clauses, that his contract THIS season counts at 17+ million on the cap.

His cap hit, next season in the last year of his deal (09 season) is around 20 million.

Fitzgerald would be a HORRIBLE pick up for that reason.

Mort said on GAC yesterday that he talked to some Arizona officials recently about Fitz and they said they absolutely weren't going to let him get away.

I did mean Fitzgerald. Not his contract.

No team will pick up the current contract as it is today. Several teams, including the Cowboys would be willing to offer a new contract as part of the deal. Fitz will be more likely to agree to terms with a new team (as part of the trade agreement) but never with the Cardinals, who are about to prove that they won't pay the piper. Burn me once...

Bidwell is the loser here and he ought to know it by now. Next question is who will benefit from his usual bungling. Cardinals are in a losing proposition and they know it... or they soon will.

This team only has enough room for one WR Diva....... No thanks on Roy Williams. I don't think TO would be all that happy if we brought this guy in.

You mean TO likes to play next to crappy WRs?

Perhaps I have a reason for saying it? I've never said it was absolute. I do blieve however that it will happen. And not because the fans are talking about it. If not this year, then in 2009 when he is a Free Agent. If he never becomes a Cowboy then someone will eat crow. I have no problem with that. Circumstances change.

Is the moral of this story that people on message boards are foolish for speculating. Time to shut the board down.

Hos, some people just want to suck the life out of opinions I guess.

How in the world does a sf article where the author is totally upfront that they are asking if the 49ers would be interested turns into a "WR Roy Williams rumored trade with 49ers"?

We could get him for a second right now if we wanted to. All I can say through this entire saga is that as much as fans like to bash JJ I am glad he is the GM and not us.

1) He is coming off a season ending injury that put him out for at least 4 weeks and was put on IR less than a month ago. He has missed time in 3 out of 4 seasons he has played so far.

2) He is in the last year of his contract and has shown no inclination to extend in Detroit. This gives him all the leverage in the world and takes a lot from the Lions. Additionally his child lives in Texas which causes him to commute back and forth constantly.

3) According to Joyner, Martz and RW butted heads because RW had to be coddled to motivate him Take that and the fact hes always missing games due to injury it really puts up questions as to his toughness and passion for the game.

Randy Moss went for a fourth. He was not injured and while he basically gave up on Oakland, RW is not exactly showing his passion in Detroit. Also lets face it, RW has put up big numbers once in his career and has been dinged the rest. Moss put up numbers like that 6 years in a row and has really never been hurt.

Take that and Chambers going for a second and I see no reason to go over a 3rd rounder and that is only if I dont like my other prospects.

You can overinflate his one good season and you can disregard his multiple red flags but to see everyone ignore the market as well really baffles me.

Millen may be an idiot but there is a reason why hes not asking for a first. No NFL club will give it to him.

My brother told me that Norm Hitzges actually said that Jerry should give up a first and third for Williams. I told him that Norms an idiot. That just sounds like the old Jerry who gave up two first for Galloway.

And Detroit was essentially eliminated from the play-offs. There is a difference between being able to play when there is a reason to, and playing when there is no reason to, especially if that means risking further injury...

It cracks me up really. Especially when the logic is "the fans are talking about it." We talk about everything. I don't think there's been very many players or coaches who have come here that the fans hadn't already had some discussion about. It doesn't matter if it's through the Draft, Free Agency, or a trade.

Now, I admit, trades are the hardest to pull off, but in this case there is a player very motivated to "come home."

You dont know that he couldve played the only thing said was that he wanted to play but couldnt.

Im sorry but he wsnt healthy enough to play. Look at guys like Burress who was hobbled all year long and TO who fought back in half the time and compare it to a guy like RW who Martz has to force to play. There was nothing to play for but pride and the fact he apparently really doesnt care is the reson he didnt want to play.

We already have one RW with no passion for the game and its mindless to overpay for another one.

Exactly.

If you look at the facts:

1. He will be gone after he is a FA next year.

2. Detroit can either bring him back as a lameduck WR and get nothing for him in return, or trade him and perhaps get some value.

3. He is from Texas.

Nah, no chance he could be traded to Dallas. This is of course strictly speculation...I get that. However, it is hardly inconceivable and or improbable that he could be a Cowboy in the near future.

It is not like we are talking Adrian Peterson for SS Roy Williams here.
