This could be nothing more then Detroit trying to up the anti or set the bar. Regardless, the question I asked a few days ago still stands.

Will Roy Williams make us better? Will he be succesful here in Dallas? Can he put us over the top?

If the answers to those questions are yes, and I think this likely, then the only real question is how much is Jerry willing to spend? If we can believe what Roy Williams has said in the past, then nobody has more leverage the we do. Nobody can spend more to get him then we can. Nobody can offer him a better situation, form the stand point of potential for winning a championship and playing with a talented offense then we can.

It comes down to want. If Jerry wants him, Jerry will get him and there's not much anybody can really do about that.

Yes, it is pessimism when you don't take an off-hand comment about wanting to play close to home and concoct your own reality from it, regardless of any real-life restrictions that might be in play, like the salary cap, the egos on the football team, the team we might be dealing with and so on.

Offhand? Hmmm...I don't buy that. Do you suppose he meant nothing by this comment? Do you suppose he meant to create a stir? Otherwise, why no take it at face value - he wants to come home.

What?

So because some don't think Roy will be traded to Dallas, its pessimism?

That's dumb.

I'm not touching this one. Reread original post please...

I read it fine the first time.
I think some of you underestimate the pulling power that a person's home town can have on their life. For those of you concerned with money figures - we do not pay state taxes in the big TX. That fact, friends, is incentive enough. While it might be a long shot (I don't believe that) as some of you say, there are many reasons to throw back at you in favor of Williams coming home. Why are some people so pessimistic?

No state taxes is incentive enough.....and while it might be a long shot....somehow there is enough evidence to suggest he is coming back home.....and we are pessimistic because we don't think it will happen.

I will reiterate.

Dumb.

We have a need for a WR and RW likes Texas. Its not that much a stretch from there.

At the same time his up and down production, injury history and now this recent report of him being difficult to motivate really maeks me wonder if we want him. We already have one RW with little to no fire in his belly. I dont know if I want another one.

Thousands of dollars does not make a difference in the life of an athlete?
Also, my original post attacked the attitudes of some people who take it upon themselves to kill the speculations of others in this forum. None of us, including you, can state with a degree of accuracy the plans of the Cowboys or Roy Williams. I understand that we should measure our thoughts with maturity and a bit of reality, but certain signs point to a union between RW and the Cowboys. Nothing far fetched about that.
As far as the dumb statement, how old are you?

Randy Moss is going to be a free agent, right?

Who would you rather have, RW or RM?

First, I REALLY doubt Moss would want to come to Dallas because he hates Dallas!

Second, if RW does want to come to TX, Jerry has already stated the he has enough coin to make a "splash" in free agence this year.

I say to Jerry...get boff of them!!

;) (could you imagine...T.O., Moss, RW)? Hell, CrazyCowboy could play QB!!

It's simple... Alex doesn't like players from the U of Texas. ;)

I am in the same camp as Vintage. I would love to add him. But that is besides the point.

Athletes make those types of comments all the time. That doesn't mean that they are going to get what they want. There are many things at play.

If he were a free agent, it would be a different story. He would actually have a method of control.

What is the point, Alexander?

You say just because he wants to come "home" that it may never happen because of "fan wishes" that he would come home?

You don't know that...

Jerry (if he wants him) has his methods of control also. He is cap friendly, has draft picks, an outstanding team, no taxes in TX...new staidum?

Who has the advantage over him? The 49'ers? The Texans?

There's more to it than just Jerry Jones.

There is the contract. What team in their right mind is going to ship a second round choice (or higher) for a lame duck player?

Without a sign and trade deal, cquiring Williams means we end up having to handle his contract almost immediately or at the latest 2009. Not to mention we already have several other large contract situations to worry about right now.

This team only has enough room for one WR Diva....... No thanks on Roy Williams. I don't think TO would be all that happy if we brought this guy in.

Please explain...lame duck?

Would'nt that be what would happen? The Cowboys sign him and give the Lions a 2nd or 3rd?

Also, the cap is going to go up again this season, no?

That's another factor, especially if we end up having to give him a contract the same offseason as we have to worry about keeping Owens content.

Owens is getting up there in age...if he does not like it, tough! Also, TO has seemed to be a new person, a new teammate, a new guy altogeaher since he came to the Cowboys. Why would he have a problem with someone helping him win a ring?

You confuse me...

I don't see TO as being a problem to bringing another WR here by any means. There is only one person who could possibly cause TO to react enough to matter. That is Randy Moss coming to the Cowboys. And I suspect Moss and TO can get along just fine here. Both make the other a better player by taking heat away. If Randy Moss could come here...assuming I'm right on how they would interact.....then I see no reason why RW would threaten TO at all.

I see no reason not to go after any FA WR who will help us. If RW wants to be here then they can work out the contract and just rework the contract.

A second rounder for RW seems to be a great deal for us IMO. I don't know RW well enough to comment on spending a first. Is he worth a first?

Would Randy Moss come here?

Williams has some control now... with the contract negotiations. Like you and others have said, no team is going to give up a 2nd rounder for a one year rent-a-receiver. They're going to want to get an extension done.

If Williams REALLY wants to come back to Texas, or hell if he just DOESN'T want to go to the proposed team (49ers or whoever), all he has to do is be impossible to extend. He has just as much control as he would if he were a FA, save for the fact that if he is uncooperative with other teams, he may have to spend one more year in Detroit. He may think it's worth it to spend one more year there, then be a FA, rather than sign a long term extension for a team where he doesn't want to be.

That's no different from the childlike logic of this equation:

Detroit is exploring trade options for Williams + Williams is from Texas and said he wouldn't mind being "home" = HE'S A COWBOY

That is not true..you also have to look at the youth we need at WR..the fact we have two first round picks makes the second rounder a little more expendable.
