WR Steve Smith (cut) would be interested in Dallas *signs with Ravens*

BS, this is pretty much completely Romo's team and show. I doubt Romo would have any issue laying into Smith if he messed up.

I think Romo and Smith would get along *great*. Both players know what they're supposed to do, both are true competitors in every sense of the word, and both are tough, tough players. I also love the personality dynamic we'd have with Dez and Steve Smith. They'd be one of the toughest WR duos in the league in terms of their respective temperaments. And he's a guy who can play inside and out--especially out since we're losing that in Austin.

But he only makes sense on a farewell-tour type of contract. If we're bidding against another good franchise with a high degree of interest, it'd be tough to get a deal done within the framework we should be looking for.

I absolutely love the guy as a player, though.

Didn't you know? Being snarky is the "in" thing to do.

sorry WG but the "in" thing to do would to say

we are not the worst team in the league
jerry is not the worst GM in the league
we have lost a playoff game every year the last 3 years and have been relevant
what was tom landry's record his first 3 years?
the drafting has been "better" under garrett

and on and on

then, i would be "in" with the right people

Agreed. I don't think Romo would have to get on him regardless and I think they'd get along great. And I too would love the fit with Dez. It's an all around great fit, IMO.

I'd actually love Steve smith here for a year or 2, if our defense is going to suck we may as well try to produce fireworks on offense. Plus it allow Williams to ease into things rather than throwing him into the fire, also not too comfortable with what we have behind him.

Probably don't have the budget for it. Would be nice to have a WR who is consistent out there and would definitely help upgrade the team, but I think we have the right pieces at WR and for the right price.

Nope...that was the in thing to do before.

The negative opinion of the team on this forum FAR outweighs the positive.

*sigh*

I wish I could find those actual quotes so I can fit in with the right people, as well. Alas, they don't exist.

Smith has asked for a reduced role the past few seasons. Although he could be a 1 or 2, he has said that he would love to play the slot.
His attitude is what the new GM wasnt a fan of.

If he wants to play in the slot, then all the better with Dez and Twill outside.

that is completely unreasonable for a team that has been knocking on the door of a SB for the last decade

what do these fans want? they have completely unrealistic expectations.
no one can win the SB every year.

must be fans of other teams disguised as cowboy fans or worse yet, peole who hate everything about the cowboys

Did not want to overwhelm him....he seems like a guy who is a year or two out of the loop?

Perhaps...or he's the blind homer that the other guy was referring to in the thread in the Rant Zone. lol

Sigh...

I did not say it was unreasonable.

I said it was the in thing to do when you argued other wise.

Keep up.

I would love it at the right price. What he has between his ears and in his chest is what we need on the Cowboys right now... and that only gets better with age.

Physically, he can still play some too.

If he's cheap enough, I'd do it.

Hell no. Why? Why would we do this?

We want to push guys like Harris, Beasley and a potential rookie even further down the depth chart? I don't know what Harris has to do to get people to trust in him. He can handle a larger load as a receiver, he's done just about everything else you could ask of the guy.

Those guys can't play split out for us. We've got Dez and Williams who can right now, which means if one of them go down, we're immediately playing someone out of position. It also limits how much we're likely comfortable putting Dez in the slot when we don't have a threat on the outside who can possibly pull a safety.

We're going to add a veteran WR we can play wide at some point this offseason. We could conceivably do it later in the draft, but I think it's unlikely we roll the dice on getting someone capable of possibly starting on the outside as a rookie two drafts in a row. The only real question is how much we've got slotted for that position for a veteran. There are enough good options out there for us, I imagine Steve Smith would be a fairly expensive luxury for us.

Are you crazy! Romo loves to show up his receivers on the field if they run a wrong route and he throws a Int. He always makes it seem like it's the receivers fault. Steve Smith is one of those guys you don't mess with like that.
