That to me was just an ignorant choice. A 3 year deal sets him up to rebound from the past 3 seasons. There may be more to it, but the whole revenge tactic is just silly IMO.

Other disagreements aside, I think most all of us agree with you on this. Bryant turning down that offer was stupid. And hanging out outside of the Giants facility is flat out embarrassing at this point.

Then again, he's often been someone who responds more emotionally than analytically.

Detriment to Dez should not be a factor in any decision. Dez is an employee who can be fired/cut at anytime. There is no bad timing when a business (Cowboys) is done with an employee (Dez).

And you seem to want to view this in a vacuum. There is no business benefit to Dallas in waiting. Zero, zilch, nada. So, let's please stop trying to say that THE TIMING was for business reasons/benefits. Just stop. You seem to being trying to put the decision to cut Dez and the timing to cut Dez together as if they are not separate issues in this regard. They are.

Dallas had every right to cut Dez. Whether they should have or not is up to debate. They also had every right to cut him when they did or another time. That is what this debate is about. Whether or not the timing was handled well. The timing doesn't hurt Dallas, but it doesn't help them. But just because something you do doesn't have a negative impact on you, it doesn't mean you can't still be an *** by how it affects someone else.

If you don't want to consider in how your decisions affect others, I can't do anything about it. My moral compass doesn't work like that.

Apples to oranges.

McClain was released after the Commanders drafted multiple players to replace him. That move actually made sense from a timing perspective.

My point is players get released even late in the off season. Dallas brought in FA WR and drafted a WR so if they choose to release Dez today would that be better?

Yeah, that made no sense but you are right. There are numerous examples of emotional decisions. That has always been my biggest criticism. Fantastic talent, but lets his head get in the way and that hurts the teams.

That is an you issue unrelated to the Dallas Cowboys. When you separate the emotions from logistics there was no bad timing because the timing was unrelated to Dez and all about convincing the boss man.

It would at least make a semblance of sense. The timing they chose made none whatsoever, and that's the point people continue to make over and over again. Nothing more, nothing less. The Cowboys own timing was dumb.

Yeah, unfortunately, it's always been a part of the total package with him.

And it continues to be to his great detriment.

and that is your opinion. Again so what they took their time. You seem more concerned with Dez, he got his money and if teams wanted him they could sign him. Hell when did the cap prevent many teams around the league from signing a player they really wanted?

More concerned with Dez? I mean, what's there to be concerned about with Dallas? There is no impact to them at all with the timing. The entire question being posed by this thread is whether or not it screwed Dez. That's the entire point...concern with Dez. He is the only one impacted by that decision.

And, the cap does prevent a lot, but it's not just the cap that is a factor either.

Do you even know what this thread is about?

"Convincing the boss man" is not a reasonable argument.

LOL, ok that is how you see it. I think Dallas took their time, I honestly don't think Jerry was ready and I do think it took McCray based on things I have read to convince Jerry this was the best move to make. I don't care about fans time frame. Dallas doing in in March or today makes me no difference for those who feel different fine

and if teams wanted him that bad they would be going after him, he would be making the visits around the league like McClain is right now and other players. Dez had an offer he did not want it 21 mill 3 years he wants a 1 year deal at a high cost so that is on him no one else.

Is your point the Cowboys should have suffered another season with Dez? Because Jerry wasn't ready to move on by the start of free agency? That makes no sense. The timing was right because that is when the Man who is in charge made the decision.

Yes, he had one offer. The point is, that the timing likely impacted the number and type of offers available.

Uh no (though I don't think "suffered" is the right word). My point is that the Cowboys should have had their crap together and not hindered a players opportunities because of their incompetence and indecision. And the point is that they did in fact hinder his opportunities (the point of the entire thread/article).

You don't know that? reports out there indicate there are many team who would not play vet minimum for Dez regardless of the cap.

There are two questions for this topic.

1. Is it likely that Dez's opportunities for a new team/contract were impacted by the timing of the decision? I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that they were not.
2. Were the Cowboys "wrong" in waiting until April to release him. This is a moral question, but it's up to the individual to decide that. I personally think they were. I don't think it was because they were intentionally being mean-spirited, but that they were just incompetent and indecisive. Neither is really something that makes the organization look good or would be something to be defended IMO.

Of course, there is no way to know, but it's not logical to think otherwise.

Reports are just that, reports. Lots of rumors get spread (this kind of goes back to there being no way to know). And the report of "many teams" does not change the argument at all. That still leaves "many teams" who would.
