If Hamlin is the only deep guy, then
El catches a skinny post and probably still scores, but Hamlin stops that right away.

A corner should know that he's on his own with out 2 deep safety help, don't be stupid and try and jump every route especially when you have 1 safety deep and someone else could occupy his attention.

Yes, the NFL counts them all, no matter how you get there -- or whether you even go.

That's why it doesn't make a lot of sense for alternates to refuse an invitation right away (as sometimes happens). If they accept the invitation, then back out later, I'm pretty sure that would count. But they might not even care about that kind of thing.

Yeah, I'm about 99% sure it's Cover 3 (given that Wade's Atlanta playbook does not have a Cover 1 without man coverage underneath), but even if it was Cover 1 it likely wasn't his responsibility. In the Atlanta playbook, for a Cover 1 against a standard set, the free safety's responsibility is "DEEP MIDDLE 1/3 - LOOK TO HELP ON POST ROUTES."

Cover 3 refers to 3 deep defenders each guarding one-third of the deep zone. Cover 3 schemes are usually used to defend against passes, mainly those towards the deep middle of the field.
