Yakuza Rich: I was dead wrong on Romo

No need to explain, being critical of the team is part of being a fan. I would rather hear honest opinions and assessments than rah rah homer stuff.

Anyone has had good reason to question of some of Romo's QB traits in the past and so again in the future, doesn't make you a bad fan.

Sweet.

Go Cowboys!

One thing I want to explain is that I wanted to make this post. I told people that if I felt he proved me wrong, and he didn't have to even win a playoff game to do so, that I would gladly admit that I was wrong.

I may be thought of as a lot of things, but I am a man of my word. I understand being critical of the team doesn't make you a bad fan, but when you make strong statements and promise that you will take it back if you were wrong, then you need to keep your word instead of jumping on the bandwagon and acting like nothing happened.

What's your stance on Jason Garrett?

Well, here I am with this post admitting I was dead wrong.

Rich Hunt (aka Yakuza Rich)

You are being a man about it, I guess.

Maybe we all too easily turn on our own.

I enjoy your analysis.

I would interested in this too.

Let's wait and see how this thing plays out. This is the time of year a QB becomes a legend or an another QB on the dump heap of history.

I love the way Tony's playing right now, but one thing I've learned about Tony is that he can be playing very well and all of a sudden you tune in one week and he is "off the reservation".

Hopefully, he's grown beyond that and is ready to take the next step to a Championship level player.

Very rarely does Romo play off the reservation.

And I mean VERY rarely. Like maybe two or three games his entire starting career.

However, the games when he doesnt play well, and plays maybe average or so, other players and units of the team decide to play poorly, which often results in a loss.

Romo gets far too much blame when we lose (and sometimes gets too much credit when we win)

I know you don't believe it, but Tony Romo is better than Roger Staubach ever was and will eventually be remembered as the greater by Cowboys fans the world over, I predict.

:)

way to man up.
everyone makes mistakes, but romo is the least of our worries on this team.

Not really sure there is a reason to "man up".

People make prediction and offer opinions about this team every day.

Regardless, I remember when you made the comments about Tony Romo and I was quite shocked.

Tony Romo was never the problem with this team.

I wouldn't say he wasn't the problem. Like most players, they have to develop into their full talent.

You don't make the plays Romo made early in his career without talent. But Romo had to grow.

Romo was at fault serving up punts for interceptions.

But he has learned and is now making very good decisions.

If this team advances to the Super Bowl, it will be because of Romo.

If it doesn't it won't be because of Romo, IMO.

I think the Cowboys' achillies hill is coaching. I hope we fix this and fast. But if we rely on the running game and also maintain what we have in the passing game, with this defense, we can make it to the NFC Championship. And maybe beyond.

whoa dude!
roger is a hall of famer, multiple time pro bowler and super bowl qb.
maybe tony will get there, but don't deny my boyhood hero roger the dodger.

romo hasnt been perfect over the years but i always felt he was one of the better qb in the league

i never lost faith in the guy. i always laughed off the notion of getting rid of him even though i can understand some peoples frustration with how this team had consistently floundered. i just never viewed romo as the problem

Just about every Quarterback in the league needs to continue to grow and sharpen their skills.

Tony Romo had some bad games over the years just like every Quarterback in the League but in his short career in Dallas, I don't think he was ever the main problem with the team.

much respect to you for that. a lot of people wouldnt do that

most would act like it never happened lol

My thoughts on Romo *at the time* were not so much about him being 'off the reservation', but I just had a general sense that he felt turnovers were no big thing. Saying stuff like it was 'as good as a punt' and 'people won't remember me in 5 years', etc. really irked me. After the G-Men game I just thought he was saying all of the right things just to get the press and the fans off his back. Obviously I was wrong. But 'being off the reservation' happens to all athletes in all sports from time to time. Acting aloof about it is another thing and if I were a Bears fan, that's what my concern would be with Cutler.

As far as Garrett goes I think the problem is that we should've expected some growing pains with a young coach who had never called plays before. But we really didn't get that in 2007, probably due to the talent we had and the rest of the league having to get used to him. I also think that success stunted his growth as well. With that, I think the past 2 years we've finally seen those growing pains come around.

I wouldn't shed too many tears if he left, but I can understand keeping him around as the O-Coordinator and hope that he'l work thru those growing pains. That being said, I don't want him as a HC in 2010. He's nowhere near ready at this point.

Tony right now is better than Roger EVER was? Better right now than the only QB in HISTORY to be in the Pro Football HOF and a Heisman Trophy winner? Not to mention a SB MVP and a 2 time SB winner with 4 SB appearances?

You might be surprised I would say this but I hope one day I can agree with you and say you were right. I would LOVE to see Tony take that kind of step! For goodness sakes that would mean at least 2 more Lombardi Trophys in the case.
