I have to divide them because it is an uneven playing field for the major nets because the FCC governs them on content and a huge deal was made out of them showing butts on NYPD Blue.

Glad to see someone else had Rescue Me. Loved that series and Leary writing all of the funny lines for his fellow actors was special. The story behind him being inspired and motivated to make that was special too.

Writing is SO important! Mathew Perry and Thomas Lennon are comic geniuses with great chemistry, but the Odd Couple reboot SUCKED MASSIVELY, because of the writing.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker
If I ever do a Top 20 list of my favorite television show intros, Kolchak: The Night Stalker would be on it. The music is dead on, transitioning from everyday mundane to eerie. The visual sequence matches it perfectly. Darren McGavin enters the newsroom, whistling carefree. Then he gets down to business, slips a sheet of paper into the typewriter and starts pecking away at its keys. The office goes from light to dim. The freaking wall clock stops! Something catches McGavin in the corner of his eye, twists his head, eyes wide and the camera freezes. Music climaxes.

Even to this day where audio and visuals have made it look obsolete over the decades, it still remains one of my all-time favorite series openings. :starspin:

In comedy, the writing is critical because comedic actors don't even have to be funny. Peter Sellers didn't have much of a sense of humor and would often stop when the cast was breaking up over something he'd done because he didn't get it.

NBC put so much value on writing they bought Taxi and the writers for just one season because Cheers was their target all along. They even bridged the character Jim to Coach and made it work.

I never thought the TV Odd Couple was funny and never saw the one with Perry. Taking a Neil Simon comedy and not having him write it makes no sense to me. There is brilliance that just can't be duplicated and he was one of a kind. What talent to be able to create characters that we can see ourselves in and laugh.

It was a great show. Well done and a nice dedication for those directly effected and dealing with the aftermath.

This is KINDA related to the OP. I created a video of nineteen seventeen of the twenty series intros from my earlier posted list. The one three exceptions are Attack On Titan and Xena, both of which YouTube blocked, and Watchmen, which does not have the typical opening of short visual combined with audio (usually music).

This is not my Top 20 all-time series intros though. That list would likely look up to 75% different I think.

I included video marks below if anyone would prefer jumping to certain intros instead of viewing the entire thing.

Mark/Series Intro
00:00 24
00:11 Attack On Titan (season 1) removed to avoid copyright block
00:10 Avatar: The Last Airbender
00:56 Battlestar Galactica (season 1 | opening for "33" episode)
01:57 Buffy The Vampire Slayer (season 3)
02:46 Dallas (season 2)
03:57 Game of Thrones (season 1 | not sure which episode)
05:39 In Living Color (season 1)
07:19 M*A*S*H (season 6 | I think)
08:06 Roots
09:05 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (season 7)
11:00 Star Trek: The Next Generation (season 1)
12:46 Star Trek: The Original Series (season 2)
13:45 Stranger Things (season 1)
14:45 The Big Bang Theory (season 6)
15:08 The Cosby Show (season 3)
16:05 The Walking Dead (season 1)
16:40 The X Files (season 1)
18:42 Xena: Warrior Princess (season 1) removed to avoid copyright block

Video unavailable
This video contains content from NBC Universal and ProductionIG, one or more of whom have blocked it on copyright grounds

Sometimes... I REALLY dislike YouTube. My guess is that the video block is related to the Xena (Universal property) and Attack On Titan (ProductionIG property) intros. Xena is the only intro I copied from a non-YouTube source since all the versions of the intro I found on YouTube had been altered.

A non-streaming service content creator had uploaded all 7 AOT intros in a single video, which I cropped-and-copied for my video. That video is public and subscribed while mine is simply and only unlisted.

Whatever. What I find strange is returning to the video and it will sometimes play without the block. I don't get it.

/disgruntled rant
