The Cowboys will never do that . Why would we do that? Just to be vindictive and risk the cost to our offense . Why??

Elite players ultimately have the power to renegotiate. Not sure why fans are so distraught with it .Pay the man.
wait... so he is holding the team hostage, yes? I mesan, he is refusing to come to camp until he gets a redone deal. So why dont teams just do the same? The Cowboys better be smart an dlook down the road, because we have this young player that is all about himself, and number 11 will want a deal redone EERY year to ensure he is the highest paid defensive player in the league. Would you be ok with that? and still have the attitude of just pay the man? Teams have a cap and they plan accordingly knowing who they have under contract and for how many years.

Do this with Martin and watch what diggs does 3 years into his FIVE YEAR DEAL. nah... I woudnt do it out of spite, im not about spite. EVERYTHING is all about business to me in the NFL. I have no player loyalty, just like 99% of them have no team loyalty. As long as the relationship is muutally beneficial, im all for it. As soon as a player isnt helping the team... im ok with saying seeya. I was ok with Emmitt, ok with Aikman, ok with Zeke.... ok with all of them hitting the road as soon as they dont help the team.

Zack Martin was given an NFL record highest paid Guard ever contract extension back in 2018. With 2 years still left in that contract, Zack Martin is trying to pull a stunt for another record paid new contract extension at 33 years of age. If he misses all of training camp, I would be looking to trade him and send him and the rest of the team a message that such actions will not be tolerated.
I can't blame him for trying. Martin realizes his time to earn at or near the top of the market is narrowing, and the older he gets the more it will narrow. I suspect something will get worked out.

Move Tyler Smith to Zack Martin's starting position at Right Guard. Send the message to Zack Martin that he can be replaced with superior and much younger quality. Plug in Matt Farniok at Left Guard. Chuma Edoga, Asim Richards and TJ Bass are the backups. Problem solved.
Tyler Smith & a completely unproven Farniok handing the OG positions is superior quality to having Martin and Tyler Smith both on the O-Line?

I don't see that at all.

Not to mention, what happens when Tyron Smith gets hurt and Tyler Smith moves back to LT?

Love ZM, he's an elite player, but you don't give big $ to an almost 33 year old player, outside of maybe a QB. Jones should waive the fines, give him a nice little bump so his ego is placated, and get him back to work.

Giving him an additional $10+ million to get his salary up with guys 8 years younger is nothing short of stupidity. It's throwing cap space in the garbage for no reason. Martin has no leverage, he already has a deal. If he wants to play hardball, give it right back to him.

I’d agree with your premise here. But each player and season is a different circumstance.

Personally knowing that it’s practically a given Tyron goes down then with an OL and running game already suspect going in this year the loss of Martin practically changes the expectations for 2023.

If you’re fine with what the potential impacts are then I’d let him sit. But I have a feeling that McCarthy knows his offense is in trouble without Martin and probably Tyron . With Tyron out we felt we could move Tyler over . But if both are out then what ?

And if we can’t run the ball what does that mean for our QB and passing game being more effective . Or are we ready to put the offense and season basically in Daks hand ?

I wouldn't mortgage the future . Assuming there is a future if is another disappointing ending. I think the expectations are high . Not only for MM but Prescott too. This offense needs to gel with MM taking over. Martins absence and the OL collapsing won’t be enough scapegoat to save them when he could have been payed .

We don’t have to offer him a long term deal. Offer him a one year deal near the top for OL. Then draft a replacement in 2024 and see how this season ends . Then we’ll be in a better negotiating position next year.

But if we are All In on 2023 to kick the door down on a Championship appearance then paying Martin is a must. If we aren’t then be prepared for what the impact could be and the collateral damage of the results.

Farniok is not completely unproven. Farniok started in 2.5 games at the beginning of last season (2022) when McGovern got injured. Farniok filled in and played excellent in run blocking and fairly well in pass protection before he himself got injured. With another offseason under his belt and another training camp and preseason coming up, Farniok is most likely going to get better.

Charge him for the sit out and he will be ready for week 1. A guy his age doesn't need the wear and tear of training camp.

Despite Farniok's 2 starts while McGovern was out, it can't really be argued that the quality of the O-Line is improved with Farniok starting instead of Zack Martin

This isn't all that hard to figure out here. Guarantee his 2024 base. Add a couple of years. Throw a signing bonus. Contract runs through, say, 2026-27 and he'll still likey be effective. You don't have to throw a $100MM contract at him.

Plus with those dummy years give the Cowboys incentive to try to get an extension signed. I wonder if this might be a case of the Cowboys and Martin having a wink wink deal where he doesn't have to show for a week or so. Call it a veteran exception, LOL.

Nobody said improved. That's your argument. Mine is simply to be reasonably good enough to help this Offense function enough.

Not even a minor uproar over this compared to Zeke who did this to get a first big payday versus Martin doing it having already received a big payday.

Did you check with Prescott to see if he’s on board with that?
