Franchising Schultz was the correct decision. The other option was giving him a big contract.

They needed a veteran TE. Any decent free agent would not sign a 1 year contract.

Kellen Moore's scheme is "TE friendly" which meant that a draft pick would likely have quick success. They just needed a veteran to bridge the gap while a rookie TE developed.

I'm not a big fan of Schultz, but injury has limited him and Cooper Rush at QB also seemed to limit him. He has not been 100% since returning games missed due to injury.

think team should have made him a good offer around 6m a year. If he takes it great-if not move on. Hes just not worth 11m. For the vet to bridge the gap they could have picked up Cook (I know hes old) or Ebron for 6m or less. Now with Schultz what do we do for next year-cant franchise again because of cost and he will see a 6m offer now as an insult.
Admit it-when u 1st heard they were franchising Schultz didnt you have to reread the story to see if u understood it correctly?

It was done "tongue in cheek" a bit - I am a Zeke fan but one could see early on, that his style of seeking contact was not conducive to a long career at that high a level.

And I think most would agree that he isn't the same back as when he first came out, all what a lot want is for Pollard to see more touches.

Pollard is a big play guy, but those guys need their touches, cant expect 3-4 big plays on just 8 rushes.
also cant expect loading pollard past his actual carry max wont effect his legs and his big play ability. hes never carid the ball that much and was obviously gassed, he at his best with this successful 1-2 punch

hmm dilemma huh..thiose are facts.. sorry where were those big pays when 2 game he had under 2YPC? he will not always be the hot hands a few games Zeke was over 5 oner over 6 YPC, had they kept feeding him he could have had big day..its why io say stick to the plan , let the flow of the game dictate who carries more as long as the slit is close , all will be better for the long haul.(pun intended)

we've seen team Pay guys like Kamara, Cmac and backs like pollard and then get rid of their counterparts and then what production went down they have never proven to be a consistent healthy #1..

IYO , sure

coaches have far better unbiased grasp on how to handle that..lmao.some of you just need to stop. by all the pre-season and post dak injuries many of you have been and will continue to be wrong and terrible talent evualtoers.

you know those that said Rush should keep the starting job, smh..right fans should be GMs and coaches.

How about watch the games. There is no need to argue about Zeke and Pollard. Just have a tiny bit of football IQ.

Question for all…..

It seems as though they alternate the two backs per series, not as a play to play thing within a series.

Is this correct, for the most part at least?

Don’t want to go mouthing off on it if I’m wrong.

NOPE

have some football iq by allowing the coaches to work that out. their football. IQ is 100times more respected than fan forum. they understand how to utilize both and don't need keyboard strikers help to get it figured out.. My football iq shows 2 games TP had under 2YPC..mine also shows Zeke been a better back at least 3 of the games and still has much to contribute in this offense.

also cant expect loading pollard past his actual carry max wont effect his legs and his big play ability. hes never carid the ball that much and was obviously gassed, he at his best with this successful 1-2 punch

Zeke is playing because of his contract. Duh.

He’s very average at this point in his career and will be out of the league soon.

The OC was forced to utilize Pollard more this last game. I also what to add, the offense playing uptempo was a smart move. Why in the he@@ would we change that formula? Are we that stupid? Zeke can do the same role as Malik Davis did in the Bears game. The first 4 scores we a product of speed, quickness, and quick strike ability. Pollard started the Bears game and he should start this game as well. Our offensive coaches are not so good that they can "choose" to change from what really works. This team offensively needs an "identity ". The identity we used against the Bears was reminsent of the early days when Dak was most effective.

Zeke's role has to be more than Davis'. Pollard needs around the same amount of touches that he got against the Bears. He does not need the same amount of snaps because he was dead tired on that long run at the end and could not go anymore. Pollard said that on the sideline during the game, and the RB coach said it after the game.

Pollard is a thoroughbred. He's at his peak when you don't overrun him. Zeke is a plowhorse. He can work the field all day. We thought we were getting a thoroughbred when we drafted Elliott, but he's always been a plowhorse. And there's nothing wrong with that except that we're paying a thoroughbred price.

I dont think anyone wants Pollard getting 20-25 carries, around 14-15 from 7-8 or 9 seems to be the general goal.

As for the numbers Zeke has 2 games where he had a avg of over 5.0 - 5.2 and 6.2
Tony has 4 - 8.1, 10.8, 6.9 and 9.4.

For the "clunkers" anything under 4.0

Zeke has 4 - 3.5, 2.6, 3.5, 3.8

Pollard has 2 - 1.3 and 0.8

Another little stat, when Pollard gets over 10 carries his averages are

8.1
4.0
6.9
9.4

And yes there will be game where Zeke is the hotter hand and you stick with him but if we gonna go
by numbers - Pollard has earned more touches imo.

I already stated that and still say the coaches and fo understand this better then our fan base and just because JJ says its back to zeke , he never meant anymore then what we are discussing's saying zeke not getting benched for pollard nor will Zeke be listed as the #2..it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things as Jerry has zero input on play calls and who plays how many snaps. the coaches trust zeke and have done a great job so far this season splitting up the carries.

Pollard is more exciting to watch, certainly. Is he the "better" RB? I think that depends on how you qualify the position.
Yeah. I get it.

I guess id say ball security and being the type of runner that can score on any play are most important to me.

Zeke is great. I’m not anti-Zeke. I love the hard runs, blocking, and leadership. He’s just slowed down is all.

I also look at things like durability and longevity. In the Sounds from the Sideline episode, we heard Pollard saying he felt slow and stiff (paraphrasing, as I don't remember his exact words), and I'm pretty sure he was saying that was before he ran the long TD. That tells me he can't handle much more work than they gave him last week, which is fine by me. He did a great job, and between him and Zeke, if they can split around 30 carries evenly, they should both be productive.

For the most part, this seems to be true from my recollection unless one of the backs tags out. Frankly, I'd like to see more mixing it up within a series. For example, let's say Elliott is in on first-and-10, the defense is playing run and we run it anyway and only get a couple of yards. I see nothing wrong with putting Pollard in on second-and-8 because a) he's the better receiver and b) he's the bigger threat to break one if the defense wants to anticipate pass and we choose to run or run a draw. Third-and-short might be a good time for Elliott, but I actually like when we put both of them in where we can run the fullback dive with Elliott or pitch it to Pollard. With Dak also back, we actually have the option for him to keep there as well, so that puts some stress on the defense.

That’s what I was getting at.

I’d like to see them mix it up within series.

Is there a reason to not do that?

May be a rhythm thing. Some feel a back has to get into a rhythm to be his most effective. Some backs definitely believe that and have said it over the years. It's understandable that carrying the ball once, then going to stand on the sideline for a couple of plays before going back in could affect a player's mental and physical flow. I just think it's more of a mind-set thing, and if you know that's how your team is going to operate, you can adjust your mind-set. Other teams have done platooning within a series effectively, but I'd have to go back and see how often they platooned (was it down-to-down, every few downs, etc.).

I suggested that they should franchise Schultz before it happened...

Ebron is not even playing.

Jared Cook is 35.

Schultz knows the scheme and Dak is comfortable with him.

It would have required a multi-year contract to get a similar replacement in free agency. Even is 6M per, the cost if that player is cut after 1 season would be about 11M or more due to the signing bonus.

I was on board with this as well, especially with Jarwin's career ending. We had no other tight ends except Sprinkle and McKeon and you never know how ones you draft are going to turn out. I felt that Schultz had proved himself as a receiver but his blocking was sketchy last year, so I didn't want to even consider a long-term deal until we saw whether he cleaned that up. That both a fourth-round pick and a UDFA may make him expendable was unexpected, so the tag was the best option at the time IMO.
