Franchising Schultz was the correct decision. The other option was giving him a big contract.
They needed a veteran TE. Any decent free agent would not sign a 1 year contract.
Kellen Moore's scheme is "TE friendly" which meant that a draft pick would likely have quick success. They just needed a veteran to bridge the gap while a rookie TE developed.
I'm not a big fan of Schultz, but injury has limited him and Cooper Rush at QB also seemed to limit him. He has not been 100% since returning games missed due to injury.
think team should have made him a good offer around 6m a year. If he takes it great-if not move on. Hes just not worth 11m. For the vet to bridge the gap they could have picked up Cook (I know hes old) or Ebron for 6m or less. Now with Schultz what do we do for next year-cant franchise again because of cost and he will see a 6m offer now as an insult.
Admit it-when u 1st heard they were franchising Schultz didnt you have to reread the story to see if u understood it correctly?
