Based on their recent history….What makes you think so?
You saw what they did with linebacker this year. It makes me think they will get a good runner on a rookie deal next year. It looks like they added 3 good olinemen this year and a good blocking tight end. I'm thinking top picks next year will be dline, running back, and receiver.

Broaddus on a pod cast with Jeff Cavanaugh yesterday hinting Mazi has issues between the ears.
I know you don't scout the helmet but maybe lets not draft Michigan players high anymore. I only say 'high' because Jourdan Lewis has been solid

I'm so glad that their top 4 picks are intelligent this year.
It wasn’t in regards to his intelligence from what I gathered from the interview. It felt like BB was dancing around a possible mental health issue. I’m too lazy to find the link but it’s an interesting listen.

Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer on DT Mazi Smith: “Obviously he was a high draft pick, and I heard that he kinda struggled a little bit last year. We’re gonna start with the basics, get him in a good stance, get him using his hands the right way, getting his footwork the right way, and then kinda go from there. … We anticipate that he’s gonna be a good player like he was in college.”

Make it happin' Captain.

Why would we not draft from the top team in the country? I suspect that they will have some good rookie players in the league this year.

So knowing this, what do you think of Mazi right now? A bust or a guy who didn't even have a chance his rookie year?
It's the craziest thing I've ever heard.
This time, last year, he was a 1st round pick and his DC says "you're fat and disgusting. Lose some weight."
Now, his new DC comes in and says
"Geez kid, eat some cheeseburgers. A lot of'em".

I'm thinking this year, Mazi will be "fat and happy".
(Compliments to the chef...lol)

I don't think DQ gave Mazi a chance to adjust or learn a new position. he was a 1T and they automatically switched him to 3T. Obviously he was not ready to make that switch. I think Zimmer will be smarter than Dan Quinn. He's already said they'd move him back to 1T and work with him.

Weighing in at 305 doesn't seem like what a capable 1-tech is supposed to be to find success at that position as a pro. Let's hope he's able to return to the weight that he found success with in college. Otherwise, can he be expected to find success in pro football? Good luck with that. It's not hard to understand why they're keeping it quiet if that's the case.

Of course he does.

I can't believe how many are blaming Quinn for Mazi's failures. I know it's in to hate on Quinn after that playoff game, but overall he did a very good job here, which is why he got a HC offer.

Quinn didn't ruin Mazi. Most likely Mazi ruined himself through laziness and being a poor pro. Remember 2/3 or so through the season when Parsons had to give him a pep talk on work ethic and being a better professional?

Ouch -- I hope Mazi reads this and gets highly pissed off -- then we'll see the real Mazi come forth. Yeah, that's the ticket! :flagwave:
I hope he gets back on track but I'm not real optimistic. Zimmer is here on a rental. Mazi could have his 3rd DC in 3 years this time next year. Tough row to hoe.

One year, it's decided to have Mazi lose weight -- then, this year he's encouraged to get it back! No wonder this kid has head problems!

First, they got him to reduce to 290 -- then, in 2024 it's 305 and maybe he's destined to get back to his college weight? Something's gotta give.

Curious to see how Mazi works out. He was my pet cat last year's draft.

Could be that it is a Mazi issue. Could be a mental health, PEDs, work ethic, injury, etc. Could be a coaching issue. Very little to no heads up, 2 gap play.

Probably a measure of more than one. Broaddus said on Cavanaugh's YouTube that Mazi had mental issues. Quinn selling out for sacks and interceptions was seen on TV.

These are issues the team is working on. The DL coach was talking about asking him to play off blocks. Zimmer was talking about forcing the engagement so to avoid getting reached all the time so the LB know their gaps. The Cowboys have had a mental health program pretty famously.

We have all watched Clark and co clown car. Our defense has had issues with our DT selling out diving for a gap and getting hooked since Ratliff left. LOL Nick Hayden. Our LB have had issues with reading the dynamic front over the same time. LOL Ernie Sims.

I am not as concerned about DT after hearing the coaches. Mazi, Osa, Golston, and Fehoko all have at least done it on college. The way they were drafted, I figured they would 2 gap but it never happened. Looks like it will change.

The team should hire a special unit of psychiatrists to analyze Mazi, to determine if he's just trying to fit in with the other head cases, or what?

So Zimmer admits, " Micah struggled last year"....he must not be a true fan according to the Virtue signalers here.

He's clearly breaking fan rule #3 which is ; "though shall have unconditional support of the team and never criticize anything Cowboys "

Zim is now an official "hater"
