So knowing this, what do you think of Mazi right now? A bust or a guy who didn't even have a chance his rookie year?
Bust. If as a 1st round pick and a 2nd year pro you have to basically go to remedial football camp to learn the basics....hopeless. But, hey, trust McClay. We're the best drafting team in the league. Just ask Taco, Trysten Hill, Bossman Fat.....

Maybe they can pull a Crawford in him. Make him play at 330 this year, then make him drop to 280 next year, then bulk him back up to 325 in 2026.

You mean Quinn is a hack? Shocker.
We had one of the top defenses last season.

Mazi isn’t DQs fault.

The pick always felt rushed.

AAGap scheme doesn’t even use 0/1 tech like last seasons scheme.

Mazi is slow and can’t pass rush.

Probably sees about 20 percent of the snaps.

Aren't you all glad we have so many expert scouts, coaches, GM's on this board?

I mean, many think they are so great, they rather post and criticize about situations they are not involved in, or they're in person. Rather to go and actually participate in helping out the situation.

I will wait and see what Zimmer does, and how Mazi reacts and performs. This may basically be a rookie year for him, again. New coach, new scheme, new weight.

We had one of the Top Defense last year...when the offense scored first. EVERY GAME DALLAS LOST, the opponent scored first. They were really only great against TERRIBLE teams. The only good team they held in check (until the end of the game) was Detroit.

It’s a story as old as time. New guy comes in and claims everything they were doing before was wrong. We’ll get similar results, or worse. Zimmer is a retread who was on the shelf for years. Don’t buy into the hype.
Zimmer is well respected in this league and you think he would tell Mazi through the media that he doesn’t even know the basics at this point? His assessment of Mazi is he doesn’t even know the proper stance, great coaching.

He is just telling it like it is, our defense was horrible against good teams last year and the reason we lost the playoff game. It gets buried in the Dak hate but they blew that game, put the offense in a deep hole, and gave GB all the momentum a young team needed.

That's a lot of words to say "bust". But that's what it sounds like to me.

Mazi weighing 305 right now is one of the stupidest things this front office has ever done. They are colossal morons. I can't emphasize this enough.
Please elaborate. Are you saying it’s too low or too high?

We heard the same type of garbage when Garrett took over for Wade Phillips.

Sounds like Quinn and the organization didn’t do much to develop him last year.
..yep, thats the feeling that is picking up heat. They just didnt care enough about him.

They didn’t hate on him.

He just wasn’t a good fit.

Hankins was the starter.

They cut Bohanna to make room for Mazi.

After the draft, we all anointed him as the next great DT.

Then preseason….and we all got to see the truth.

Of course he does.

I can't believe how many are blaming Quinn for Mazi's failures. I know it's in to hate on Quinn after that playoff game, but overall he did a very good job here, which is why he got a HC offer.

Quinn didn't ruin Mazi. Most likely Mazi ruined himself through laziness and being a poor pro. Remember 2/3 or so through the season when Parsons had to give him a pep talk on work ethic and being a better professional?
CL you might be right, but at this point we're on the outside looking in. Maybe Mazi ruined himself like you say, BUT! ....
But, if Zimmer takes over and produces a good football player out of a DQ bust, that will speak for itself.
If I was a betting man I'd bet on Zimmer, but we'll all be watching and hoping for the best, because we love our Cowboys.

Mazi was obviously capable of being a 1st round pick. Let's hope there's enough left in him to return his performance to a #1 level of play!
Now that his weight is getting back on track, it'll be up to Zimmer to encourage Mazi to perform as a guy who is deserving of such respect! :starspin:

I hope putting the weight back on doesn't mean being even slower off the snap.
Not certain that this is possible. The man has the reaction time of a Yugo.

Sounds like they wanted him to be someone he was not last year.

"We anticipate that he’s gonna be a good player like he was in college.”
I think they wanted him to be a pass rusher and that’s not his game. He a big body, or was when we drafted him who’s strength is just taking up space. He’s too slow off the snaps to beat anyone on a pass rush

Either the coaching was bad or they had no idea what to do with him indicating how big of a bust he is
