Let's keep it real here . . . both Dak and the Dallas Cowboys got exactly what they bargained for today. That much is clear. Now that that has been clearly established, it remains to be seen what the future holds in store for both of them. Here's hoping both find themselves better off in the future. Whether one or both of them do or don't, they'll have gotten exactly what they bargained for. They both had plenty of time to figure it out. ;)

Or they simply don't believe that Dak is the guy. I have serious doubts myself, and I know you do.
Of course . I’ve had concerns and doubts all along but up until now the perception and their loud mouths presented by our ownership was they were All In and totally convinced he was their guy. So that’s what I’m basing all of this on.

I said for months leading up to this deadline that if we didn’t resign him then it would be an admission of sorts they weren’t All In.

My issue with it now is they have invested so much supporting Dak and bringing in a new HC, etc to now finally being prepared to move on all over basically what 3 or 4 million. So, I’m not really sure where they stand now . Was this just another publicity ploy or are they really ready to move on.

But if they have changed their course I could applaud but I’m not sure that’s what this is all about. Suspect as usual with our Idiots in charge. But the current message remains that if Dak is their guy and still intend on retaining him next year they have bundled this deal financially as it will cost them even more next year.

And if they don’t then we have issues in which direction we move after Dak and all that comes with that uncertainty potentially wasting all of this talent we’ve accumulated to prop him up. It’s a mess K.

Everything was so certain until today. I felt with bringing in Mikey and retaining Moore while signing Cooper and Zeke we were intent on making a run with Dak for several years. At least it was organized chaos I could recognize regardless if I supported on all fronts.

Now I’m not certain which direction we’re going. All is so uncertain now. Are we really prepared to move on without Dak? How long has this been a new plan? With Mikey or sometime after.

Or are we just willing to pay possibly butt loads more next Year in order to see how Dak does with Mikey. Which could turn out to be quite an expensive dress rehearsal.

And if not what are our plans without Dak. Well, knowing our clowns they probably haven’t gotten that far yet. Lol

Anyhow this is all unsettling to me cause I’m not certain what our intent is . For now I’m following the local paper beat writers I normally follow who are saying we’ve bundled signing our franchise QB. Ha

I think it's probably fair to say that both the Cowboys and Dak, along with his rep, could have handled things better than they did. Now, whatever happens in the future will be a direct result of what they both bargained for. They had many weeks and months to figure things out . . . hopefully they'll find a way to make the best of it. If not, it'll be a doggone shame for all concerned. I think this is what happens when grown adults can't compromise.

Make that a 3 year 71mil deal, when a 5 year 175 mil deal was on the table. Yup, really smart.
Franchise Tag numbers
1st year $31.4 million
2nd year $37.68 million
3rd year $54.2 million
total 3 years $123.28 million
How do you get $71million?

2 mill for the last year of his rookie deal plus 2 franchise years, Dak will not see a 3rd Franchise tag
Understood
but if we are including the last year of his rookie contract (no idea why) wouldn't that make it a 6 year $177 million deal

After this mess of a contract negotiation, will there be a team who is willing to pay Dak? Any team will now know that Dak will be intent on raking them through the coals and will be completely unwilling to even negotiate. This has been a bad faith ordeal by Francis from the start.

Gotta be a team willing to pay through the nose. Or willing to give it a try with Dak.

That is the thing about opening up the bidders to the entire league. You're opening it up to the highest bidder of however many want a new QB, instead of how much just one team was willing to pay.

Dalton changes a lot, as we can go into the season with Dalton. Some QB goes down elsewher, and the extra downside of playing with a backup for a full year would help push a contract for Dak into a range he's happy to play at.

Once Dak is a true free agent, of course they'll be willing to negotiate. At that point, he's trying to get a contract, not holding out in hopes of a future free agent contract.

Where are you getting the 3rd year, additional $2 M from? Are you talking about the last year of his rookie deal? Because that's already established by the league. Your agent has nothing to do with that. In fact, the reason it went all the way up to $2M is because Dak hit on all of his incentives.

As far as your 5-year, $175 M deal. We'll have to revisit that in 5 years to see if he was right or not. If he plays under the cap for 2 years and $69M, he'd only need a 3-year deal at more than $106M to beat that. He'll be 28 at that point and if he hits his average stats of a 97 QB rating, 3,944 yards passing, 24 TD, 5 INT, 305 rushing yards, and 5 rushing TD, which isn't that hard to imagine with significantly better coaching, he's probably going to surpass that contract. Dak has always said he's willing to gambling on himself. He's probably not a top 5 QB in the NFL, despite his contract demands, but he was a 2-time 1st All SEC QB, Rookie of the Year, and 2-time Pro Bowler. I can see why he is choosing to gamble on himself.

Wow, somebodies on the Rag.

Problem is you people have been trolling us for the last 4 years. Hoping our year is ruined because Dak is the QB and we have to deal with it.

Now what, is that all you got left? You hope this year is ruined. Why because you know its his last.

LoL, don't worry as soon as it looks like Dak being Dak I am sure he will be on the bench.

You wanna hear the future. Andy Dalton 2020 pro bowl selection
People get dumber reading your garbage. You haven’t made a single decent post ever.

France job is to get Dak the best contract he can get (top dollar). If Dak wanted what you suggested, he would have kept his old agent. France has made lots of money for CAA over years. He is one of the best agents and has high profile clients. I would love to know what France wanted to get Dak signed.
I would too. Surely it will all come out in the wash

Without a doubt, there would at least be a handful of teams in need that would pay the house for Dak. Commanders come to mind.

I don't think so. Remember they didn't pay Cousins. Besides, I think they are good for a few years with Haskins.

you cant expect them to be all in on any numbers france wanted, or the 4 year deal.
Dak should have jumped on this offer back in march, considering the situation.
Cap may not go up, and alot of uncertainty with many things in the nfl Right now .

I also remember jones boys saying they were not going to go by the market value.
they offered dak a fair deal , especially with what is going on now, and he should have taken it.
I think he wanted to at last minute, but they were not really interested anymore.

So, the Cowboys are building Elite talent then inserting any QB. Wonder why we hadn’t thought of that before instead of an Elite QB elevating those around him. Sounds backasswards to me but after 25 years of frustration and disappointment I’m prepared to try anything with this dysfunctional ownership.
Let’s be real how many elite quarterbacks are really out there? Tennessee almost dink and dunked all the way to the Super Bowl and if Dak played like Jimmy G in the playoffs, the usual Dak haters would have ran him out of here even if we went to the Super Bowl. I get the impression that the Joneses think they can get a Stafford or Rodgers next year. At a price that is in the range they want Dak to sign. We will see. I will be cheering hard for the Cowboys either way.

Mahomes set the market and we are facing the possibility of a shrinking cap. At least that is something to be considered. I cant see Dak being offered much more than what was already reported. Hes taking a huge gamble, especially with a competent back up in waiting. If he is a product of a good offense and not the catalyst he stands one injury away from being exposed. Im not certain thats the case, but I cant completely rule it out either.
I think the contract was fair but also team friendly so the team can keep the talent around him. In defense of Dak I think he believes he is a top 5 quarterback and wants to be paid like one. With the pandemic who really knows how the salary cap will shake out in the future.

why would a team want to overpay for Dak? They can let him take their offer or let him move on to the CFL or MMA. he likes to be on the ground after a pounding. lol panama

I think now that Dak has talked with the FO he realizes that his agent was the problem.

Of course there will. It's a silly question. Kirk Cousins got paid. Dak will get paid (barring major injury, of course).
Ignore the dum-dums who were dying to burn bridges because they've *always* been discomforted by the idea of someone like Dak being our QB. It's obvious what they're about. Always has been.
