I get its the popular thing to do to rag on him but what does it say about the rest of the defense that Jaylon has twice as many tackles as the next closest guy? Somebody has to be tackling these guys 7-10 yards down the field right?

I totally agree. I don’t think Jaylon is playing too well, but the fact of the matter is, there are a lot of worse offenders on this defense, especially on the defensive line. Even if those tackles are a case of 7-8 yards too late what is the rest of the team doing here? I think he is getting ragged on more because he has had some high profile gaffes and because he is totally not self aware off the field in interviews and such. For the investment the cowboys have made you want more, but the hate he gets is disproportionate.

Your linebackers are generally always going be your top tacklers in any defensive scheme.

People keep pointing at our DTs but what are they expecting, for Gallimore to have 120 solo tackles, smh?

I believe Jaylon has played more snaps than any other of our defensive players, so his proponents can heehaw about his durability, but his play is absolutely atrocious.

Excellent point.......say what you want, but those are tackles another player(s) would have to make. My take, no question, Jaylon has some odd, bad, or goofy plays on tape but he's nowhere near as bad of players as some fans seem to think. I don't care who the player is but if stats are showing 3rd in the league in tackles, he's doing something right.

He’s played more snaps than any other defensive player, and has twice as many snaps than any other linebacker.

Folks can heeehaw about availability/durability but that does not speak to his actual playing ability.

If you are playing a ton of snaps and play linebacker you will accumulate tackles.

Here’s more info that craps on the “tackle totals = Jaylon’s ballin’” crowd.

Bob Sturm tracks “splash plays,” which he defines as:

Look at the total number of splash plays Jaylon has accumulated with respect to the total number of snaps he’s played (again, he leads the team in defensive snaps). Now look at LVE’s splash plays in relation to the reduced number of snaps. See any disparity of actual impactful plays there?

Well if you have zero impact if you're not on the field.......durability matters. Look, I'm not saying Jaylon Smith is an All-Pro but again, there has to be some ability ( more than fans give him credit ) to be the top of the league in tackles.

Jaylon Smith is 3rd in tackles (103) among all NFL linebackers and 2nd (39) in assist .

Here is the PFF info

He should be first since he get's thousand more opportunities at making tackles, hell his reads are so fricking bad that it's comical! I think a chicken with no head would find the finish line before he could....................

So Randy Gregory is in fact the best player on the D per this chart. I like it.

this thread made me wonder when was the last time we had a LB shoot through the gap and make a TFL on a run play?

I tried to find a link to the play, but Sean Lee ran down the Eagles RB on a stretch play to his right on what I believe wasn't a TFL, but it was thing of beauty to see one of our LBs read and react to the play correctly.

In my mind I thought they Eagles didn't gain much if anything on the play, but what stood out to was Sean's recognition skills, and that seems to be lacking at times with our LBing corp.

…..we lobbying on one play now to make a point.....then turnaround your own point …..problem.....we don't have speed in the LB corp, banged up, guessing at times, and interior line play exposes each of them.
