It's not "massive", but I think there is a gap between 33-year-old Dalton and 27-year-old Prescott.

As for those over 4 games...well...again, although Dak IS better (imo), his stats this year were preposterously deceptive due to us getting to face some of the very worst pass defenses early in the year.

There for a while, Seattle, Atlanta, and Cleveland had the 3 very worst pass defenses. They got healthier later in the year, but those pass defenses were putrid early in the year.

Neither guy is a difference making player.. Bottom line.

Paying a QB that much money that can’t impose his will on teams at a high level that brings winning results is moronic.

You can try to cloudy it up with all these fancy ways of looking at it but at the end of the day the game is about winning and losing..

Trucks and trailers.

Dak is not a truck and wants money like he is.

I prefer to win something before I reward a good player with a great contract.

Paying 37 million a year to beat the same bad teams we do with Dalton and brag about stats is a 1 way ticket to mediocrity.

So do you go through all the other QBs and look to see what their stats are in "garbage time" or against teams you do not approve of and discount that too?

Pretty sure Cowboys led the league in drops last year as well.

Dak also was top three in INTs dropped by DBs..

It's funny how you don't dare for a comprehensive analysis but instead cherry pick stats that you think support your position.

I know that Jack has experienced a lot of drops from his wide receivers for the last 2 years as well.

So WR drops is not cherry picking?

Do you look at other teams and see if they are playing with Smith, Martin, Collins and Frederick and the top 5 RG Dallas has had for years or do you discount that too or the fact that 14 of Dak’s 30 TDs last year came against the Commanders and Giants?

I started discussing all of the main statistics that you see on the football reference page.

Since you guys have been nitpicking I have been looking for nits myself.

I should eat my feedback though after all it is horrible analysis

It doesn't matter what the gap is.. if there is any gap I want the guy on the plus side of the gap as opposed to the guy on the bottom looking up. People are free to believe Dak can never get any better all they want. It will have zero bearing on what actually happens. When the team is better the wins will follow. One player can only do so much.. You don't want to pay Dak.. fine.. that's your business.. Unless your name is Jerry Jones or Stephen Jones.. you're not going to have a vote in the matter.. However feel free to piss and moan about it here day and night.. I'm sure that's accomplishing something for those that do it. I just won't ever understand what it is..

Fans have a say in whether they go to the games or buy merchandise and at some point fans are going to get tired of the s--- show that is the Jerry run Cowboys.

Just draft a QB. Keep Dalton as the bridge QB. Dalton is as good as Bridgewater.
1st round Rookie QBs are on a 5 year, cheap deal.
A team can do so much more with the money. Or you can be the Minnesota Vikings 3 years into Cousins contract. 6-8 and in second to last place. A total waste.

Should always be drafting, signing guys they believe they can develop. There are romo's, Daks, Brady's out there that never get a chance to play.

Colin also said prior to this season that Wentz was the 3rd best QB in the league to build a franchise around, behind only Mahomes and Wilson.

Gee I don't why people that think Dalton is a good QB don't understand that not everyone agrees with that and want to question that. You don't understand why people think what they do but then you don't understand that some people don't agree with you.
.
.

YOUR problem is...this is a FAN WEBSITE. We are SUPPSED to cheer them on. And yes....we certainly CAN critique their performances. Fans do that. They even get mad at them. But to take it personal; and go on SEASONS LONG CRUSADES to convince people to hate them as much as they do.../

No sir...not buying it. I DO accept people don't have the same view and opinions I have. You can't survive in this world without that...not sanely and healthy anyway,. I think some people AREN'T healthy/ They think they are so cool and worldly if they don't cheer on their team...with some enthusiasm and forgiveness. They have to tear down others to be happy? Their own "family" and team?

Not saying you have to praise them when it isn't earned. Not saying you have to love all players equally when you don't. But when you can't find it in yourself to give credit for even just one good game.....sick. Poison.

I don't give a dman what you say...that is NOT healthy. They are sick miserable people. Find a team you enjoy. Don't torment yourself and especially OTHER people being that way.

People leave their spouses and families for WAY less...just to find happiness. There's no shame in it. Get out and come back when the team is winning. Be happy.

You cannot and that's the point. We do know the variables for the most part though and quarterback play is only a subset of one of those variables.

It also comes down to a holistic and reductionist approach to things.

Reductionism has led us to chemistry and physics where we can predict the motion of planets engineer cars and computers and all manner of accurate and precise things.

You reduce the quarterback into the stats of yardage yards per attempt accuracy touchdowns picks sacks drops and so on and so forth.

On the other hand you have wholistic analysis which describes sciences like psychology or economics. Human behavior and markets remain wildly unpredictable because of the approach.

At the end of the day looking at wins and losses to judge quarterback play ignores the performance of all of the other positions on offense, the defense and its constituents, special teams role, and all of that plus the quarterback for the other team.

If you reduce it to yards accuracy etc then you can encompass most of what a quarterback actually does in a game. of course there are intangibles and things that are hard to quantify like leadership pocket awareness capability and so forth however in Prescott's instance by all accounts he excels at all of those.

When viewed with a reductionist scientific approach Dak Prescott is a very very good quarterback.

You are reducing things down to zero. You are using stationary binoculars to see the whole world.

I think you need a healthy mixture. It seems you are putting too much stock in minute details...."reducing" like a a gravy until there's no juice left.

That's okay though....you do you...we all fan like we do and nothing will ever change it. I just wish people would enjoy how they fan more...have MORE FUN! It's suppose to be fun.

Mahomes had it against trash *** Raiders, Broncos & Chargers.

Washington, Philly,& Giants do have decent defense though.

You have anything other than analogies?

We're not discussing how fans should have fun. Do whatever you like.

And reductionism is not exclusive. it takes everything real into consideration as long as it has an effect on the system.

what we are discussing is the best way to evaluate quarterbacks for an NFL franchise or anyone else for that matter. You don't agree that precise and accurate evaluations are better?

Okay...I apologize for the "fan" tangent. I was just in another thread...and it carried over to this. Thank you for refocusing me.

Hmmmm you respectfully asked what I think. Um...well....okay...

I think that yes...you have to boil things down "reduce". Sure. But my analogy does apply...if you are using "reduction"...as your point...you can't cherry pick the parameters. You HAVE to accept that you can over reduce.

I think there are VERY MANY factors in this type of thing and micro analytical analysis can get burdensome and obtuse. There's nothing particular wrong with it...you just have to give it a weighting factor. Not all micro stats are equal. We certainly do have to analyze each players performance. But the "skill positions"...the "franchise players"....Welll...they are called that because of why? MVP's? POTY's? Stat leaders?

I suppose so to some extent. But you can NOT deny there's also another stat. Are you a WINNER. Do you make major contributions to win. That can come in many forms...it can be elusive...not JUST reductional stats.

Michael Jordan had stats...that's true right? BUT...he was a winner. I know I know. Cowboy Lover what the he hockey sticks. I budded in on your conversation with someone else...and I just wanted to point out that he does have a a point. You want to "reduce" things. Reduce it to winning or losing. So far...we have been losers. The stat that matters...the ultimate reduction.

Dalton isn’t a flashy cool player..

He’s just solid tier 4 or 5 QB that can get the same results as a tier 3 guy.
Dalton is a decent QB if you give him a defense and healthy OL.
I do wonder what his market will be like in FA, north or south of 20mil/yr?
