Why is Dak refusing to give the cowboys a discount? Mahomes did!

It’s called integrity. Give me a deal I can live with. Not something that I’m going to want to go back on in two seasons. Look at Elliot did refuse to play without a contract even though he was under contract

Integrity is a two way street. Teams dump players in the middle of their contracts all the time. Players have to look out for themselves because teams will discard them about 10 seconds after their play falls off without looking back. Owners make billions screwing over the players. I will never fault a player for trying to get as much as they can. When their careers are over the money stops the next day. Meanwhile owners will continue to pocket billions.

I found the list. For the last 12 superbowl champions only 2 of them had top 10 cap hits for there position (Eli in 2011 was the 6th highest paid and Peyton manning in 2015 was the 5th highest) and none of them where top 4

10 out of 12 of them weren't in the top 10 and the average for all 12 was 20th highest paid..........

You can win with a high dollar QB but history has shown that it's an uphill battle and NOT the norm

There is no doubt that a team with a good quarterback on a rookie contract will have an advantage. That's what I've seen over the last 10 years. I don't know what the salary structure was like prior to 2011. If the top 25 quarterbacks are making market value or close to it, I could see a top 5 paid quarterback winning a super bowl. The difference in cap hit from 1 to 25 is negligible. The big difference is when you have a team like the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes only being a 5 million dollar cap hit. Give it a couple of years until his cap hit goes into the mid 40s. The Chiefs will always be in the mix, but it won't be as easy as they're making it look now.

Well that turned ugly for the cowboys and many feel he duped jerry

I totally understand but that’s not what Prescott he wants to do

There is NO WAY I take a discount if I'm Dak. Take a discount from a team that gave Jaylon Smith a contract extension after ONE really good season. And also gave a contract to a Running back because he held out and his deal wasn't even up. Daks like y'all payed these dudes without blinking an eye and y'all want me to take a discount?"

To be fair none of those guys were looking to take up 15-20% of the cap. The team has to be more careful with the QB contract because getting it wrong at such a big number can be a death knell to a franchise for a decade. So I understand the need to get it right. That said, Dak does not have to take a dime less than market value on his contract. But he SHOULD make sure the deal helps against the cap. Failure to do so will damage the team around him and diminish his career. Now if he doesn't care about diminishing his career then have at it. That's his choice but I will join the chorus yelling to get rid of him if he does play it that way. A lot of fans will.

you have a point . which probably is the way this is headed. Dak will get tagged for one more year and be gone after that. If he plays lights out and gets a deep run to the playoffs , then jerry will pay 45 mil by that time . if not , jerry will make him walk . Jerry would have saved 12 million over those two years.

Insisting on a 4 year maxed out contract as Dak is doing is Dak not caring about the deal against the cap. That's why he's lost so many fans.

It's his responsibility to make plays on the field and be the face of the franchise by staying out trouble. It's not his responsibility to help with the cap. He can do it as a courtesy, but to me the opportunity to do that went out the window when they signed Zeke. I don't think fans realize how bad of a message that sent. They've gotten diminishing returns from Zeke, he's been in trouble, has been suspended and held out and the reward he received was a contract extension. He obviously won't be making what Dak will, but the point is they have the nerve to look Dak in the eye and haggle over whether it's 4 or 5 year contract while paying Zeke 15million. I can take that 15 million for Zeke and that contract from Jaylon and get a legit DLINE and a legit free safety to really help the team, while drafting a midround RB who can replicate Zeke's recent diminshing production. I can come to Dak and Ask about a discount after I sign those type defensive players mentioned above, After I wait and see on Jaylon before extending him and After I tell Zeke to kick rocks.

Helping w/ the cap is part of winning.

Do you really seriously not know this? I mean, this is NFL football 101 stuff.

Okay, I think the point is being missed though. Can Dak give a discount? Sure, if he wants. But my point is if the the organization gives out bad contracts they can't turn to Dak and ask for a discount. You say helping with the cap is part of winning. I certainly agree with you that it helps a bunch ( see patriots and Tom Brady). But the Cowboys gave out a bunch of contracts quickly (Zeke and Jaylon) and those contracts were questionable then and clearly bad now. Again, maybe we are talking from two different angles but my issue is primarily with how the Organization handled things with him. Especially since it's apparently about whether it's 4 or 5 year contract. One can argue Dak shouldn't be so petty, but one can also say the same thing about Jerry if Dak is supposedly his guy.

Giving discounts help the team if you have a competent front office. If you don't, that extra money will be wasted on guys who won't even make the tam. Let's be real here. We signed like 11 guys on free agency this year and only two stuck around for any significant time. Why in the world would Dak want to take a discount for that? There is oo way should a qb take a discount if there is no actual plan or demonstrated competence. The FA didn't do anything even when Dak was playing on a significant discount, playing under 4th rounder money. Why would that change now? If Dak was to take a discount, he needs to make a stipulation that there will be an ACTUAL GM, whether it be McClay or someone else.

Comparing Dak to Brady or Mahomes isn't fair. Mahomes was getting paid 1st round money, 1st of all, and although on a yearly basis his number might not be insane, essentially Mahomes got a half a billion dollar deal.

In terms of Tom, If Dak had Belichick and a billionaire wife and an owner that knows how to get out of the way and the GM do his job, sure, he can take a massive discount and keep on rolling.

PREACH! PREACH! PREACH! Some people just don't get it and have double standards when it comes to Dak and the organization

Ok... then get Dak the hell out of here.

I feel strongly about QBs, and lineman on both sides. If you have a good one and there is not a better one available (via free agency, trade or via a top pick) you lock up what you have or move on. My question is, is there a QB that is "available" that gives us a better chance to win than Dak? If yes, let's work on signing or drafting them. If no we need to sign Dak asap. Do we give Dak the moon? No, but he's not asking for the moon based off his play and the going rate for a QB of his caliber.

Absolutely.

However, we can get rid of some of these contracts soon. And then what?

It's not a discount. It's reasonable. We offered around 35 mil/season. That is not a discount.

Paying Dak 40 mil/season for 4 years assures us that we won't win in that time.
