Are we going to be able to build a super bowl contender w/ Jayon and LVE?

Chill man they both are fine, we need to beef up the interior line

The only reason to chill is we will never reach a Super Bowl with Jerry and Stephen alive. So it’s going to take a while. And having two awful LB’s like then won’t matter much.

Would you be willing to pass on Dak for those three players up the middle?

Patrick Peterson or Xavier Rhodes at SS with Suh and Watt at DT

Nope you don't have to. 1 tier one fa either DL or Fs. Mid level FA MLB, and mid level FA FS /DL (which ever one you did get tier 1)

Good post. My only disagreement is that LVE can't play WILL. I think he can cover well enough and run down plays. However, with Jaylon it's tough to find a position for him to thrive considering his mental and physical limitations. Guys like JOK are new age WILLs and Dan Quinn probably likes that type of player considering he drafted Deion Jones.
You're right on about Jaylon though.
He just doesn't do anything exceptionally and does not justify his contract.
As a Mike, lack of instincts/IQ take him out on plays.
As a Sam, just seems to get blocked too easily and blown out of a play when he needs to disrupt the play.
As a Will, deosn't cover well enough.
He'd be a great 4th LB, sort of like what we want out of Joe Thomas, (guy who could be a 3 position reserve). Trouble is Jaylon's not playing for a minumum deal like Joe, he earns like a top level starter, but does not perform as one.
It's a recipe I've unfortunately seen repeated too often under the Jones' as GM's, overpaying for guys they like personally.
I thought the same thing last year when we rushed out and signed Anthony Brown.
I like him some. I just question what he is. He's NOT a starting outside corner. Is he a starting slot corner (3rd corner, which is essentially like a starter in today's game?). I guess the Jones' think he is, but I have serious questions.
I don't dislike the guy, but when I look at film I see him getting ravaged by slot receivers, so I question if he is that 3rd corner.
I think he'd make a great 4th corner. A guy who can come in and play out or in depending on situation/injury etc.
But a 4th corner can't justify a 5.75 mil cap number like he has.
As an example, last season, Dre Kirkpatrick was released late by the Bengals and signed on with the Cardinals for like $880K. He ended up starting outside for them, essentially their #2 corner, and played well.
Now look at Brown, and what he made, as a 3rd or 4th corner, and Kirkpatrick and what he made, as a #2.
What team got the better deal for the $?
Lack of an objective football professional strikes again, as it did with Jaylon.
Therin lies the problem with the Cowboys, right? Poor, non objective football decisions.

This team has all the appearances of a .500 team.

A lot depends on how these injured olineman work out. I could deal without Smith, but if Collins and Martin are healthy all year with the others, the oline and offense should be top notch.

Easy schedule and NFC East. Depends on the draft and can they sign a starter or two in FA for the defense.

Serious question. Logically, I'd say we almost have to dump both and start over at the LB position before we can build a super bowl D. Can those guys be a part of a top 5 D? Serious doubts here.
Jaylon is got to either take a huge pay cut or be cut. He is a total liability in coverage as he has no change of direction agility. his long speed is gone. he can't read offenses and he has just short burst straight ahead speed. that makes him a 2 down LB to help be a thumper and stop the run.

LVE gets a one year reprieve, if he doesn't improve, then no sense in picking up his 5th year option. we need to draft a couple of off the ball LBs that can play in coverage.

Question: Does anybody think Jaylon or LVE is a dawg?

The middle of the Cowboys defense is fragile and punch drunk. They have to bring in an anchor at NT first and foremost...then they need a true MLB, and last an enforcer at SS. Also a 3T is in order for the middle too. Nothing I saw from Gallimore or Hill would stop me from signing/drafting anyone.

Two cents: Jaylon and LVE aren't tough enough to be MLB...they WILL backers.

an enforcer at ss lol. You can't even hit guys these days so how can there be an enforcer?

But our D is so bad.

What I mean is a big SS (think guy from FSU or USC or VT or LSU) who can also play LB in nickel. Those guys are big enough to have an effect on the run game, and on passing downs can cover TEs or RBs efficiently. Allowing another more coverage savvy 3rd S to play deeper coverage responsibilities.

I'm not talking about the passing game as an enforcer.

I do see your point. LVE is solid in coverage and can certainly run down plays.
I guess with a moden NFL Will, I just want a cover specialist, and I while I think LVE can cover at Mike, he is less suited to cover at Will, but you're right in that he can play the position. But then again the injury bug arises.
I just remember the glory days, with the Darren/Darrin combo (Woodson and Smith).
It was like we had 4 LB's on the field for run plays, and 3 safetys on the field for pass plays.
One of the (many) reasons that team was so good.
I really like a Will who is essentially a big safety (at least in today's game), and a Mike who can do it all (great instincts to play the run, and athletic enough to cover). I think LVE is terrific, I just think we are looking at a long term Sean Lee situation there, with him being unavailable more than he is available. I love Lee, but I'm not sure I want to put myself through that again.
Quinn said speed will be his focus for the defense, no different than Jimmy Johnson's vision when he came in. Damn shame GM forgot about how the defense was built.

I see your point on the WILL, I want a super fast WLB too, and there's plenty of draftable guys who can do that.

As for LVE, it's tricky for me b/c I'm fine with him being the MLB in nickel (passing situations only), but in running situations I want this guy free to roam.

No way. 2018 was 2018. Both players have been terrible for 2 years. Athletes yes. NFL linebackers no. Personally I think you cut Smith and give LVE one more chance but I am drafting 2 LBs and looking to move on.

Dump Jaylon. Gotta do that before his contract gets guaranteed in March. Without the guarantee, we'd keep him til camp and see, but I wouldn't guarantee that money for what we've seen for the last 2 years. No way.

For LVE, he's on his 1st round rookie contract, so 2021 is already guaranteed. He'll be back for his last year. Only 2mil anyway. I wouldn't dump him for that even if we could. I still have some hope for him. So much promise in 2018. Maybe he revives himself and we extend. Maybe he gets us some kind of comp pick.

We need to pick up a starting LB in the draft to go with LVE. 2nd or 3rd round. And play them. I'm trading back to get us more high picks, pending what we do in free agency.
