Lost roster spots - name them - who are they? Whoever they are they were fringe minor leaguers who never really had a chance anyway. You are going to begrudge him the chance to play a game that he loves. Are you going to begrudge every other single player in the NFL who gets a chance this summer because he knows a coach?

This is just stupid nonsense, this taking a roster spot from somebody who deserves it- there are 10,000 of them out there who are on the fringe - they are better off finding a career.

Tebows ability and the name affords him both opportunities. So what, every other popular athlete get opportunities he should never get otherwise - just look at those guys who go into acting and are terrible. You gonna take that away from them because they played sports?

Common sense says kids just out of college and aren't 33 and have actually taken snap recently, unlike this dude, who hasn't even set foot on a field professionally in like 7 years and have actually played TE, the position Tebow REFUSED TO EVEN PLAY FOR YEARS, tells you there are plenty of players.

The difference is nobody paints these other guys as Saints and holy and when he gets criticized, his fans turn around and argue that he's some type of martyr when he gets kicked to the curb, while charging 50000 per speaking engagement for over a decade plus.

Tebow is about himself period. Stating these facts is not begrudging him...

You can easy find the cringeworthy Instagram post he posted about it with a picture of Watson with a lengthy post below literally starting with "I'm sorry you have to go through this".
If he said that, he still has growing to do.
Read what I wrote AFTER I said he was an exceptional person.
Because he doesn't lash out publicly at skeptics? Ehhhhhh

I do not care what side of the fence you are on concerning the Woke or Cancel Culture or other political branding...It is NOT something that is to be discussed on the forum.

If the character of TO and guys like Dez are open to criticism, when they are begging coaches to give them another shot, than so is Tebow's period. He doesn't get some type of get-out-of-jail card free, because he fits some mold that supposedly makes him "ABOUT THE TEAM" and not greedy or in it for himself, when his actions say otherwise.

he absolutely has a point. It’s a damn joke that Tebow is able to sit out of the league for 8 years then come back and get a job

This is my take. Tebow is a hometown sign for the Jaguars, the franchise is trying to get some of the Florida Gator fans to come out and support the franchise. He's not being signed to be an impact player on the field but to leverage his popularity in the Gainesville area and fill the stadium.

Dez situation is very different, he had an opportunity with the Ravens and didn't work out. Unfortunately for him, teams are not going to pay him ($600K league min) for a marginal role. They rather gamble with a young prospect and see if he can develop into an impact player. Dez is known as a one-dimensional receiver with limited speed, and poor route running. At 32 I think we might have seen the last of Dez, at least on the field.

Uh, yeah.

The reason why many LOVE Tebow is not just because he plays football, although that is a part of it.
It's because ...
1. He's a Christian - which appeals to Christians, and particularly, Christians in the South and
2. He is consistent in his walk.

You have to understand the people who like him and, well, revere him. Far too often, many who support the faith have been disappointed in celebrities who say one thing and do another or who fall into grievous wrongdoing or, even if it's not egregious wrongdoing, don't respond the way Christ would.

Here comes Tebow. And along with his fame as one of the greatest college quarterbacks/players, he embodies character many appreciate. And that character isn't just when people say nice things about him but when people say nasty things about him. He NEVER makes a retaliatory comment. And he doesn't just avoid people or become passive aggressive, but he returns to face them and continues as if what they said never phased him. No ill-will, no grudge. He just moves on pass it and acts as if you're still his best friend.

Now maybe that's ehhhhh to you, but I haven't seen it outside of Tebow. Or, maybe, you can share with me a person who has basked in the limelight like Tebow who has NEVER retaliated against his/her critics yet still mans up to work with them or talk to them.

Yes, THAT'S character.

And because that is sssoooooo rare in an individual (heck, people on this board can't even do that towards anonymous posters, LOL!), I believe he gets opportunity that other people don't. Some people call it "favor" which is different than "privilege." But we can't talk about it any further because both explanations violate the topics we can't talk about on this board. I just mentioned the Christian aspect to frame why people revere Tim Tebow.

So, yes, he IS an exceptional person. Not to mention at the age of 22, donated money to build a hospital in the Philippines. Yep, I think that's pretty exceptional, wouldn't you say? :)

Top sports players makes over $10,000 per minute. Why are you complaining about Tebow making 50K per speaking engagement? Different talent and charisma.

Did Tebow beg Meyers to give him another shot?

By the way, I have no problem with the criticism. I can understand why people are critical of the move and the opportunity Tebow is getting while other people don't get nearly the same opportunity.

I guess my position is there are those rare exceptions of people who just get these kinds of breaks, and Tebow is one of them. But ... I can understand the Shannon Sharpe's, the Ryan Clark's and the Stephen A. Smith's and even the Dez Bryant's who see this as unfair.

I know if someone wants to pay me $50,000 to speak, I'm not playing the martyr or the "I'm too holy to accept this money" routine.

Some people don't fire back, because the critics are right and they know it's better just to keep quiet and not jeopardize what they have going at the time, rather than opening their mouth. What can you say when the critics ask you things like "How do you feel that the team is constantly carrying your back, while you can't throw a basic sideline route and your completion percentage is 40%? "

People all the time "bow their heads" and go along with their high-paying jobs. Not sure how this is a praiseworthy quality.

I like you.

Maybe it's because you have a Queen Latifah picture, and she's one of my favorite celebrities in terms of her personality, versatility and maturity. So I probably picture her as you respond. And you always respond in a mature fashion - above the fray, so to speak.

P.S., my wife and I love watching "The Equalizer."
When you take the "atic" out of fanatic, it's way easier to see things in a different way and you respond differently.

Do you know I've only seen half an episode of that show. I can't quite picture Queen as a BA. I'm gonna give it another try tho. lol

People tend to fire back in passive aggressive ways. Or they avoid you altogether. Tim Tebow doesn't do that.

Furthermore, I've seen other players respond reactively to criticism of bad play. Some players are ready to fight.

Yes, keeping your cool under press IS praiseworthy.

Well, Tebow never walked off the field before the gun.

And Bryant never put his college team on his back and carried them to championships, milking every bit of limited QB talent he could muster. No, he decided to go against the advice of his coaching staff and teammates and let Sanders help him take his last season of eligibility.

All time least favorite 1st round pick. I know, I know, you Dezzies are going to come dogpile me but this guy has always been about himself. There wasn't a wet eye in the OSU locker room or coaches booth when he was kicked out his last season.
Everything you said about Dez is accurate, but Tebow's college career is irrelevant to the ridiculous notion of him being back in the league.

At first, I didn't either. But she grew on me. They wrote the role for her, and I think it works. In fact, it's one of the few shows I catch every week.

This is life. It happens in every profession and every walk of life. There is a ulterior motive here in complaining about it! Everyone complains a bit when it happens to them I guess but like the first post and title says - it is just envy!

I agree he's an exceptional person. I don't agree that he's an exceptional player. I've always been balanced that way. I like him - I must admit - because of his character and where it hails from. But he was an awful quarterback, though I was cheering his miracle-like comebacks. It was fun for the game, but I kind of figured it wouldn't last.
