Witten wasn't the goat, but he was in goat conversation...he was great and it seemed odd that a lumbering guy like him can be so good.....
I agree, I don't think Witten is the GOAT either, but I think he is in the conversation, but never at the top.

I don't even think he was ever the best TE in the league during his years. Gronk, Gates, Tony G, and those guys always were better, but Witten was always at the top, just never at the tip top.

It's almost as crazy as having the #1 offense in the league and losing games 9-13, 9-17, and 10-12, huh?
I don't disagree. but they weren't #1 offense in scoring.....just yards....the ravens were #1 scoring defense, not yards... but like I said I don't disagree....not sure what you are angling......

agreed. he is a HOFer, for sure....top 5 during his time....top 20 all time. was great to have had him on the team. He was Romo's security blanket.

I'm just sayin, but I agree that Ravens defense was the GOAT. That might have been the easiest job in NFL history for a QB to win a Super Bowl on that team.

We'd be lucky to always have a reliable guy like Witten. That's for sure.

He was even Daks security blanket at the beginning until he just couldn't do it anymore. I always wished we had a more play making TE like Gates or Gronk, but I can't be mad at Witten. He was always there. It was 3rd and Witten for a reason.

that defense was scary good, with the likes of Reed, Lewis, Rod Woodson three first ballot HOFers, that are probably top 5 all time, and bunch of high level players like Boulaware, Burnett, McCrary, Siragusa,

I love watching good defense. There was nothing like those 2000s Ravens vs Steelers games when both teams had those amazing defenses.

agreed. good defensive games are as exciting or more exciting than a high scoring shoot out.....and a lot of people don't know the difference between a good defensive game and a sloppy offensive game that ends up low scoring.

I don't like how Dak puts his body on the line. Let someone more expendable do that. We are sunk without Dak.

Romo was a BFF type of guy. That’s why Jason Witten has great numbers. So many times other players weren’t expecting the football like Patrick crate and losing it in the lights. He never expected it in the first place. That’s what I didn’t like about Tony. Camaraderie in favorites are two different things
Your perception is completely off on this one, Whirly.

Witten caught a ton of passes because he got open, several years he caught a pile of short ones due to Jerry doing a PPoor job of building the OL so Romo had to dump it off right away.

Crayton had 50 reception on 84 targets that season, and had already caught 3 passes in that game.

4.6 forty. Not lumbering. Well, except on the longer stuff. Witten was extremely quick for his size, which is what got him open along w/ instincts.

Question: Why do so many fans today base everything on long speed? There is so much more to the game than that.

Dilfer...seriously...he had a defense that gave up 10 points a game...let that sink in for a while...10 points a game!!!!!. let me repeat...10 points a game.

Joe Flacco had the benefit of a good defense as well. giving up only 16 points a game...he was a decent passer, but didn't have to do much.

Foles, caught fire in the end and had benefit of a great OC, that we now know was the force behind that offense, as Eagles struggled mightily when he left. Foles reminds me of Hostetler and Giants. Simms got hurt and he went on a run and won a superbowl with a great strategic coach, who ran the ball and dominated the clock for almost 40 minutes.....he went on to have a ho hum career and played for AZ and didn't amount to anything. kind of like foles.

Again. All of the QB's he mentioned were thought of as better passing coming out of the draft and were thought to have higher ceilings arm talent wise. No point in going round and round just answering the op. I am not trying to convince anyone to like or dislike any player. I don't believe he will ever see a championship game but if you do then cool.

Surprising take. I'm not sure there are very many QBs who wouldn't have won with Baltimore's defense in 2000. Dilfer was terrible and still won. His defense/special teams only gave up 23 total points in the 4 playoff games and also contributed by scoring 3 TDs of their own. Even a rookie Dak would have made that team much better than they were with Dilfer.

And that is what it will take for a Dak lead team to win. Which is why he won't but you can see from a talent perspective they were regarded much better coming out of college, foles maybe slightly better.

You're referencing what they did out of college. Their accuracy and "passing" in the NFL was not good. Ravens won in spite of Dilfer. Nobody in the history of the NFL says "That guy Dilfer was a prolific passer in the NFL".....Nick Foles was a freaking back up lol. You're trying to sell me that these inferior quarterbacks "caught magic" but keep bringing up with they did in college? If that's the case Matt Leinhart and Vince Young should be NFL champions...

That is part of their history. Once in the nfl things changed for sure, some is on them some isn't. Just like if you put dak on most other teams he'd look much worse than his numbers suggest.
