Sorry dude, but Emmitt was a class act, warrior and the heart of a champion.

Zeke was not on his level, and not worthy of the same level of sadness to his departure.

Zeke put himself first, Emmit put the cowboys first, sad zeke is done but he did not earn anything close to what Emmit did.
I'm not comparing what Zeke has done for the Cowboys with what Emmitt has done. That would be foolish. If that's what you think is going on here then you are making assumptions about what I'm saying that I am not saying. I can like a player without him setting all-time NFL records so if my being sad about Zeke leaving makes you think I'm saying he is on Emmitt's level then that's your mistaken assumption, not mine. You can't tell me how to feel about any player so stop trying.

Zeke was incredible to watch and left it all on the field. Will always root for him but it was time to part ways.

If Zeke saved his money, I would recommend he retire from pro football.

Its not worth the damage.

dont waste your time on the #ZekeHaters

Even though Zeke isnt playing football for Dallas this year, he is still Zeke.

It's hilarious that there are people here that justified his bad play the past few seasons. Dude has been washed up for years, so glad he's gone. Now if we can just get rid of his friend, we can get back to trying for a championship.

He may test out the free agent market and see where his demand really is and may even resign here again. We shall see. But its a move that had to be made, and prob best to draft a 4th rounder.

Wasn't Stephen Jones in the news not so long ago talking about how he didn't think Zeke's performance was tailing off and the platoon system was working quite well? He was selling us fool's gold. Mr. Pyrite!
Stephen is one of the worst owners in history. Dude lies about so much, even at times when he doesn't even need to put on a poker face. Good thing for him that his dad made the money he did or he would be in trouble.

Considering his next deal wouldn't be much, due to drop in production and surplus of backs, probably not a bad option so he's not bouncing around the league year to year.

I think there is a standing offer to Elliot. JJ said you’re getting paid 6 million anyways. We will offer you a new post 1st deal of 3 or 4 million with maybe some incentives. Go check out FA and if you get more and want to go elsewhere then ok but there is a home still for you here. Let’s see how bad he wants to stay.

What’s everyone gonna think the first time Dak gets popped because a RB missed a block or pick up. It will happen.

Zeke jumping in the Red Kettle made it all worthwhile!

Wasted his prime years..

What’s comical is Dak fans saying he “earned” his contract, while Zeke didn’t, even though Zeke and the OL was carrying this mediocre QB to a huge deal…. Everybody saw how Dak performed in 2017 when Zeke was suspended for 6 games and then saw how Dak was without Amari Cooper, while stile having that same OL and RG, when they were 3-5 and Dak was getting outplayed by Mariotta…

Dak really didn’t “earn” anything, as he lucked into a prime situation for any QB with NFL level skills. The guys that have been saving Dak’s career have all ended up his scapegoats.

If we are actually talking about earning a big pay day and contract, it was Zeke..

Bullcrap. THIS...is "putting himself first"? You think for one second emmitt would do it? Emmitt's coaches wouldn't even ask him to, really. Our stupid coaches did...and zeke did it.

I remember watching him being drafted. I was literally screaming NOOOOOO at the TV. What a waste of a rare draft pick, followed by one of the dumbest contracts in history. He was a fantastic player when in his prime though. It will be strange not seeing him on the field. He played it smart with his contract. Too bad management didn't.
Yes I wanted henry, who I think went in the 2nd round. More mature and hard working, elliot was the playboy, who didnt stay in shape in off seasons.
I see people here say it was overused, too many carries, which led to injurys etc, but he didnt work hard during off seasons to stay in top shape.
Emmitt did and took care of his body, and lasted a long time with same usage ,etc.
Elliot was a immature guy with poor work ethic, and self centered.

He was great in 16, but after that he was worse each season.

By drafting him in 1st round, they had to pay him 4mil + a year on his rookie deal lol, and by 2017 he was no longer worth that.
Then jones boys give him the insane extension!

I think the reason he turned down cowboys offer, was partly it wasnt enough $, but also that he would no longer be the starter.
So his ego may be why he turned it down.
Also the jones boys may want him to test the market, hence the early cut, and see that nobody wants him for what he is asking.
At that point he may still take their offer. He has 2.5 months to see what offers he gets. So he may not really be gone yet.

I thought Zeke probably should have joined the Michael Johnson Program to try to recapture his high hurdle agility and burst ..instead working with Skip Hicks ...
how about if he worked hard in off season and never lose it to begin with?
Once you lose it , it is hard to "get it back"
In 16 he could run down the line and turn the corner with his speed, then in 2017 he could no longer do that.
He had good time during offseason instead of working , so he faded away quickly

The saddest off-season day I have ever experienced is the day Bill Parcells released Emmitt Smith. I survived that so I know I will survive this but it feels very similar. The saying, "It's a business" has never been clearer. I truly do see how this is for the betterment of the team. It's times like these that separate loyalty for the team from loyalty for the player. I'm certainly a Zeke fan but I'm a bigger Cowboys fan, so I see this as something that had to happen for a chance for the team to get better.
Well said. The obviously right decisions can still be painful because at the end of the day human relationships & emotions are involved regardless of what's best for the team.

I don't know how well he took care of himself early in his career but I can't discount the injuries. I have said it before but he got hit in a game against Cincy (I believe) and he was literally never the same. All it takes is the wrong hit at the wrong time. One seemingly innocent tackle ended Bo's career.
