Better To Bite The Bullet Than Extend Dak

Here's a quick metaphor for those who don't have the mental capacity to understand basic market rate. Take a 1100 square foot, entry level home in downtown Los Angeles. You're going to pay $1,000,000 for it.

Is it worth that? Hell no! But you can gripe, moan, and complain all you want about it but that is the going rate in that market. The QB market is the California of all positions in the N.F.L. You can't compare it's market value to other positions. To change that, ALL owners would have to agree to stop paying over inflated contracts which would reset the market.
Or, you can move to a different state and get a much better home for less money and probably be much happier in the process.

The fallacy of this argument is you're working from the supposition that there are literally no other options

In your scenario, you either pay "market value" or you live on the street

There are other places to live besides LA. And there are other QBs besides Dak

Are you forced to live in LA and pay that or are you allowed to move on and find a better value?

You're making it sound like organizations are forced to pay market rate for non market rate items.

There are very few, maybe 6, market rate talents at the QB position. I'm only paying the market rate for 1 of those 6 QBs. If I don't have 1 of those 6 then I'm continuing the search.

There are still people who think the QB is responsible for all failures.
In the Cowboys case, the quarterback has been the weak link every season.
He's played better this year, but how many years does he get to mature?

I don't care how he's played this season.

We all know that when the playoffs come HIS play will be a big contributor as to why our season ends.

Dak don't play well against the better teams in the NFL. Never has and never will. Add being on the road to that and it's just a matter of time.

And I don't know. But I'm guessing a helluva lot less than $60 million
The fallacy of your argument is you are only delaying the inevitable. You will have to pay another QB whom with any success is going to eventually ask for rhe current market rate. Any top 5 QB is not going to hit the market so you are only going to be left with another Dak.

Other than that, you will be playing musical chairs with any below top 5 QB who asks for current market rate when their contract is up. That is the big picture you guys refuse to see.

He’s an NFL MVP candidate. You're better off keeping your trap shut.

You can get a Dak for less than $60 million. And then put the pieces around him that he's going to need to overcome his glaring deficiencies

Or you can pay "market value" for Dak, and let the rest of your roster suffer for it, and continue to get the same or worse results

Definition of insanity.

So let's play it safe and pay Dak 60 mil a year and let the rest of the team lose good players. We can fill in around Dak with draft picks. But just remember Dak needs everything around him perfect. So you have to draft Oline and Dline and hope the guys can be instant starters. And hope they have an easy schedule so they can make the playoffs.
It’s no different than now. Nothing changes. Salary cap goes up everything stays the same.

But what about the 150 mil Parsons and 100mil CeeDee is going to want.

Baker Mayfield is playing just as well as Dak with less around him and he's getting what? $4 mil this season?

Paying a non top five qb means death. However, playing musical chairs with top 25 qbs every few years Is a certain ticket to mediocrity. Ask the Commanders. This is the conundrum N.F.L. teams currently face. Unless the market changes.

Anyone can be a candidate and run for President. Does not mean they will become the President, just like Dak is not going to be the MVP, he might just be candidate, nothing else.

You let them walk because you can't pay them all and you already paid Dak

Dream scenario for dak and his cult. He "gets his" and he also gets a built in excuse to cover his failure "defense can't stop anyone and our WRs are not difference makers"

For Dak and his devotees this is a dream scenario, sent from heaven

The problem with Wilson would be $$$. There is no way he plays for less than 40 for a new team. Add that with Daks dead money, Lance getting 5 and that QB room will be approaching 100 million. Dallas would have to go the Baker Mayfield route….think he signed for four million on a 1-year deal.

I don’t see Dallas getting rid of Dak but getting Wilson seems unrealistic. I’m not sure cap boy could figure that out :muttley:

We're already in scenario #1

We're not guaranteed to end up in scenario #2 if we draft right

To be considered as an MVP candidate you have to be playing at an MVP level. He’s 1st in the league in TD’s and top 5 in almost all categories. It’s shocking this has to be explained. But you WERE Army
