I don't buy that for a second. He's not undersized to play DE.

But switching to a 4-3 was a huge mistake like I expected it to be. Inferior scheme, relic coach. Worse yet, I think the owner dictated it.

If the defensive line wasnt torn apart with injuries we may have felt differently about the 4-3. The 3-4 the previous season wasnt anything good either. Regardless this defense would have been awful last year.

I wouldn't have, no. For one, it's an inferior scheme. Two, the injured "talent" was overrated. This team needs almost an entirely new defensive roster.

When they moved to the 4-3 the writing was on the wall on Ware's eventual release. He was undersized to play that position in today's NFL. It showed in his lack of productivity and his many injuries. I'm sure he'll have a couple or 3 more solid years if he ends up on a 3-4 team. Good luck to you Ware.

Did you pull a hammie makin that reach? Why don't you blame Rob Ryan for his dislocated elbow and torn rotator cuff the year before when they were still in a 3-4.

I think all the referenda on Ware's career being "hurt" or "ruined" needs to stop.

Bottom line is that it is what it is -- he's 32 years old this summer at a position that takes an absolute beating every single snap, and for the majority of his career he was a 3-down player.

I still think he can produce at a level high enough to help a team, but not enough on the Cowboys for it to be worth keeping him at the requisite cap costs. This contract was likely structured to either be restructured if he was still playing at a high level, or to be released at this point.

Now, all of that being said, unless a guy is basically a fountain of youth like Jason Witten, I don't want to see us sign any more players other than offensive linemen to contracts that extend into their mid-30's.

Henry Melton works out great -- we can give him a 1-year deal at age 27 and see what happens, or give him a 3-year deal that lets him walk away at age 30 regardless of production. All of these guys, Ratliff, Ware, etc. started to break down around age 30 or 31. Anthony Spencer is 30 years old now too -- I wouldn't even think about re-signing him unless it's a very, very inexpensive deal as a stopgap while we scout defensive ends in the 2015 draft.

I said it before free agency started and I'll say it again -- we'll be able to tell what direction this franchise is trying to go based on what we do this off-season. So far we're saying that we're moving on and starting to go with the youth and speed movement. I like it.

Six playoff teams? Anyone care to guess at those?

New England made the sense when I first heard he was probably leaving town. Seems like their type of player and makes sense scheme wise.

Yep. Pathetic.

Indeed.

I am not shedding tears about Ware being gone because I never ran to his defense when he was criticized.

What is so incredibly delicious right now is the hypocrisy.

The same people that would have ripped any criticism of him, even a few months ago, are now rationalizing the release going directly against the excuses they were using at the time. A real treat to behold.

I'm glad you care more about yourself than the team.

Ware is the only player I have actually went out and bought his jersey. I have a few others from gifts, but Ware is the only player I thought was great both on and off the field (Romo and Witten too but they were gifts). Anyway, I love the guy, admire him and wish him nothing but the best. But it was time to move on, hopefully he goes on to have a great rest of his career, in the AFC.
