Michael Sam Coming to Dallas for Physical for PS

Honestly, there is very little downside to this signing. If he gets cut, no big deal. The Cowboys, who are desperate for a Weakside pass rushing DE, are simply the second team who evaluates Sam and finds him to be not talented enough. Who's going to complain much about that? If he makes the team, then that means that he's making plays at a position we desperately need help at and, it also means that he will be cheap for a premium position. Will also be seen as a positive from the media's perspective, and lets be honest here, we need all of that we can get.

This is a terrible move, awards in college don't mean anything to me, this guy isn't that good and his circus isn't worth the trouble because it doesn't match or exceed his talent

So...when signing a player to the PS, you wouldn't pick a guy who excelled in college and has potential and upside? Who else do we have that's so amazing, you'd sign them first to the....PS....lol

Really weird way of thinking. That's when you know someone has a problem with a player, that isn't related to football.

Perfect way to deflect criticism from the unflattering ESPN article?

If we sign him to the PS, the other DE's better start producing sacks. Nobody wants to lose his job, and specially to this guy. This is win win. :D

Get out of here dude, my issue is that this guy isn't that good, his awards in college mean nothing to me. He's a circus, and his talent doesn't match it.

Could you imagine how much backlash the NFL would get if Sam never got another chance?

His ability to play in the NFL should be completely reliant on his own skills to play the game and not some forced thing from the league simply because they want good PR.

Who cares about circus? It's the freaking PS...we didn't name him starter on opening day.

Honestly, if you care more about the attention he gets, instead of caring about getting a young player that had 2-3 sacks in his first pre-season and had a good college career...then that's sad.

This team would be a circus either way, so it's a pathetic excuse. If he's bad and isn't worth..."the attention", cut him and lose nothing.

What's with this circus business? Jerry Jones is more of a media circus than Michael Sam. Do you want Jerry to sell the team?

Sam seems like a well-mannered guy, who doesn't slap women around, fail drug tests or kill people in car accidents. If he gets signed to the PS and develops talent even marginally better than someone on the 53 and can help the Cowboys win games, I'm pretty sure that's all that matters. I also read somewhere -- I forget where -- that I'm supposed to love my neighbor or something to that effect. Pretty broad statement too. Don't recall any limitations or qualifications on the type of neighbor either.

Mainly because I imagine a team that needs pass rushers as badly as Dallas seems to need them would have had all their scouts, positional coaches and coordinators creating a list for players to look out for as soon as they hit the waiver list or the street. If so, what would be the reason for not calling him in sooner? My only thought is that they didn't regard him highly enough to make an immediate move for him. What made them make the move 3 days after he became available? One answer could be Jerruh's insistence on doing so, even though Garrett and Marinelli were ok with letting him go elsewhere.

again we picked up a player Monday why is bring a guy in weds that big of an issue? I see Sam the same as I do all other players who have recently been cut and are now out looking for a team. I think the I hate Jerry stuff is fine but I don't buy into this is a Jerry move because some don't like it. As for distraction? I think having the worst defense in the history of the team last year was a distraction trying to get players in here who have shown some ability is a way to put that distraction to rest. As for the gay thing? Hell Dallas had Lance Rentzel who many suspected of being gay but as long as he was making catches who cared.

That's my point, why bring the circus into town when he's only going to be on the practice squad. This guy isn't that good, and his talent isn't worth the trouble.

I don't know anything about this tinfoil hat stuff. All I know is that this team is desperate for pass rushers. I also know that Sam did a good job doing just that in college and showed flashes with the Rams.

Seems like a good fit to me. At least he worth a try.

I'll just leave the conspiracy theories to others.

Tin foil hat time:

- There was no pre-draft interest on Michael Sam from the Cowboys, apparently wasn't even on their board.
- Sam gets cut from the Rams, and get no offers from any team to sign on their PS.
- Brent's suspension decision is still looming/to be announced.
- Jerry has info on the Brent decision per 105.3 The Fan but can't say anything in an interview this morning
- Schefter speculates that the Cowboys may have "negotiated" a deal to sign Sam to the PS.
