If thats the case why didn't he run the ball more last year when Murray was gaining 5 yards a carry? He can talk about balance but there was nothing there to indicate that he was willing to run the ball.

Were running the ball more because we have a new play caller who is willing to run the ball more.

Lynch last week avg 6 yards a carry right? Do you think Lynch was very consistent or was it just 1 big run and a bunch of nothing? Avg per game can be misleading consistency in the running game is what we lacked. Facing 2nd and 8 or 2nd 9 puts you in passing situation. This year Dallas is not facing a lot of that and getting a lot more consistency in the running game I think in large part to a fully healthy Murray and the development of Fredrick and addition of Martin. This is not to say Dallas could not have ran more last season but there is a difference in how they are running this season as compared to last season.
I do agree that Linehan has come in and done a great job, he is a coach the Garrett has coached with before and a guy he fully trust.

One last thing Callahan was calling plays last season until late in the season when Garrett took more control over the play calling. Now Garrett has a playcaller he trust to do the job

Wrong it what? Facts are 3rd and short when Garrett was calling plays was a passing down, not run. So yes we struggled because we passed.

If you look at Murray's history his total average is 5 yards a carry even without a dominant oline. Which means that we have had a running game all these years but failed to exploit it.

Yes...facts that people fail to point out and ignore.

There are two reasons why we had such a bad 3rd down conversion. 1st. We were pass oriented even on 3rd and short. Nothing bothered me more when we had Romo in shotgun and 3rd and short and we passed it. You can thank your pass happy head coach for that.

Secondly, because we were such a pass oriented team last year even though we could have ran it, we got into many 3rd and long situations. Thats because he do nothing but pass, pass, pass and we ended up 3rd and long. Nothing proves the case more on why we had such bad 3rd down conversion and thats because we passed the ball instead of running it. Once again, you can thank the head coach for being so pass happy.

As for the 12 personnel which you keep referring to......it was nothing more than us trying to copy the Patriots. Do you really think that we were going to run out of that formation when Escobar can even block for the love of God? Seriously.....you need to stop referring to the 12 personnel because doesn't prove a thing that we wanted to run the ball. It just proves that we invested in TEs that could catch the ball out of that position.

We pass less on 3rd down and short (1 to 3) now. Went from a 65.1%/34.9% pass to run in 2013 to so far in 2014 a 59.3%/40.7%. Not a huge difference and they still pass more than run in that situation.

So what’s really changing? Carr said it’s a mindset of these young players buying into the process that coach Jason Garrett has been preaching all along.

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2...rised-“maturing”-defense-has-turned-it-around

Fans may not have a clue but players know who their HC is and they are buying into what Garrett is preaching. Is it the same old thing time after time? Yes it is called a consistent message that Garrett has been hammering home to these guys

Laughable are posters who refused to see the problems with the team for the last 15+ years and made every excuse imaginable. When the FO finally did what MANY of us had been saying for years ie build the OL and DL , , these posters are calling out others

Thank you!!

What's annoying me is people are trying to use this as some kind of "told you so" moment while the last 15-18 years just wasted by.

Also, while I'm ecstatic about the team at 5-1 and the O-line is great I find it strange that we are so quick to dole out immediate credit to a guy who BLEW multiple games every year with his play calling and time management...specifically not running the ball despite a back that was averaging 5 yards when healthy. To me it is ignorant and disengenuous to act like blowing games was part of the master plan...ESPECIALLY when Jones said after this past season that they kept JG because they wanted to get something for all the mistakes that were made.

Overall be happy for 5-1 and a top team but I'm not going to automatically give it to a guy who was part of the problem for years..even under Wade. Heck if anything I credit Jones in doing something in the draft and Lineham in getting away from what he did in Detroit. Also our D is a mishmash that is playing their tails off. We have 10 more games. When we are in the playoffs I'll reevaluate. Of course Garrett has his hands in it but I'm bit going to act like the last 4-5 years didn't exist to prove a point. I heard the same with Kubiak.

I don't think it is a matter of I told you so at least not from me. I would have fired Garrett at the end of last season, but Jerry choose to honor the last year of the contract. As for credit for this current turnaround I think that is shared credit by a lot of guys who have worked hard to get this team playing very good ball. I don't know anyone claiming Garrett is doing this alone, I know after the 1st loss many of the same people hammered Garrett but now in this 5 game win streak those same people act as if he has nothing to do with it. Hell be consistent if he has nothing to do with it then why get after him after a loss. Fact is Garrett is the HC his staffs success and or failure are his success and failures the message he put out to his players is being received by them. They know who the HC is

Same ole same ole. exaggeration, followed by condemnation, followed by weak praise. The first two points negate the 3rd and the first two points aren't even real because they are exaggerated. Yet another guy who never liked Garrett selling a weakened version of what he was already selling, and weakened for one reason and one reason only.... 5-1 finally makes someone have to acknowledge what many people have been saying for 4 years. The guy has been head coach for 3 full seasons, and is 6 games into his 4th. Being an assistant isn't the same as building your own program. To even try and say "the last 15 years" is ridiculous.

Well said and I can agree with this. I'm not trying to somehow "bring down" what is happening with the team. I've always had things I dislike..JG coaching style and like..Romo..that go against some others on here thoughts. But like you said, it seems to be a combination of many things clicking..JGs message, Lineham, drafting, Jerry, D stepping up. I'm fine if we have found our coach. I just remember the mistakes the last few years so its hard for me to all of a sudden say the last 3 years have been a genius plan when that plan was submarined by some badly executed games that had playoff implications. My fear, and I've been consistent on this for the last 2-3 years if people want to search, is that we have a Kubiak type situation in Houston where the talent improved, we improved the staff (they added Wade) and things seem to click for a couple of years but in the end it was all smoke and mirrors. So basically I'm excited. I think we can beat anyone staying this course. I just don't want to say it hinges all on one thing. If anything I'm proud of Jerry for sticking to a plan and seeing it through.

I understand but in those 3 years Garrett message has never changed, people make fun of him talking about process but it honestly is a process, slowly this team has gone from one of the oldest in the NFL to one of the youngest. Coaches have been brought in like Linehan and according to Stephen Jones that was a hand pick by Garrett as well as moving from Kiffin to Marnelli as Stephen said a coach has to have the latitude to make these changes.
I have never been the kind of person who thinks that NFL coaching is a one man job it is an entire staff from coordinators to position coaching who work with these guys day in and day out. That can be said for every HC in the NFL it is not them alone their staff is a big part of their success and failures

Read above in my response to Doomsday and please start taking reading comprehension classes. RIF would help. First of all you are wrong on what I thought of Garrett. I completely had his back the first year and a half. I went on the record here as saying that I liked his accountability and style. That style changed. He lost me the last 2 years when he literally blew 2-3 games a season with clock management, play calling and his inability to manage a game. This is indisputable. Jerry Jones admitted THIS after this past season. We missed the playoffs all those years and those games were key. So you can't say a guy has a master plan if a) he is part of the losing and b) the GM is constantly reshuffling the staff and taking away who controls the offense, etc. A master plan would be sticking to a process in game planning, not redoing it yearly. As I told Doomsday, I'm happy with where we are at. But you are completely either ignoring facts or a fan who'd rather be ignorant and say "I told you so" than really acknowledge how we got here. We have a team that is built right now by many...JG, Lineham, Jerry, Marinelli. To act like the last few seasons didn't happen and that this was a product of all of it it just false. Jerry even said before the season that is was probably going to be a tough one so he didn't even expect this. Be happy for 6 games of success and move along.

Again, well said. He has stuck to his message. I'll give him that. I just am looking at big picture and how the process has played out when giving credit..which to me is an organizational credit at this time.

I think it is the organization I think it is the coaches and it is the players. Winning like losing is never about the 1 it is about the many.

This. Hopefully Jerry and the organization hit its stride and decided that building lines and smartly drafting is much better than flash.

2011, 2012 and 2014 drafts indicate that is the case. No doubt last season Cowboys were also interested in Donald and Barr when they went off the board Dallas went Martin over Johnny Football.

Garrett had a plan, he worked his plan, his plan is paying off. You are right. You didn't see it. You are right, Jerry didn't see it, but had the smarts to stick with Garrett. You are right, Garrett's staff is doing a great job executing his vision. So just be happy you were wrong and let's move forward.

We are all now having to reconcile our previous beliefs with the play on the field. 6 games is too soon for me to personally adjust my thinking of Jones, so it would be hypocritical of me to expect those critical of Garrett to reverse course after 6 games.

I hope we are all forced to reevaluate by the time the season is over!

Again, you are showing your tail. People like you are the ones who ruin this board. I wasn't wrong because for the past few years his mistakes are what kept us out of the playoffs. How is that so hard to see when its been acknowledged by most in the know? It doesn't mean he didn't have a certain plan, but it also didn't mean his plan consisted of blowing games and having his GM/Owner take his control away and give it to someone else. Do you see that? The fact that he started by being HC and OC and over time its morphed into him being just a HC while others do the play calling? That's called transitioning into the right model, not a master plan of his. If you are too dense not to see that, then you really have no hope. Under your way of thinking you have been wrong for 4 years and right for 6 games. The reality is JG came in with his way of WANTING to do things. Part of that may have been getting younger. BUT his initial foray and process consisted of him thinking he could be HC/OC and that it would stay that way. Jerry took this away...twice. So the reality is, JG didn't have a 3 year plan that has gone to perfection. He lost many of its components. Please stop embarrassing yourself. It takes away from what the team is accomplishing. I could sit here and say that "X coach is going to be great one day" and for years be wrong and then the one year he does well claim "See, you were wrong." Anyone can do that. But it doesn't mean that the other years didn't happen. Please learn.

The smartest, most logical and best assessment of what has happened so far is that JG wasn't a good coach or coordinator to start. His plan wasn't even going that well. Over 3 years he learned on the job... and through Jerry and others they found a combination of what he does best that fits with other coordinators. Trial and error. He teaches a philosophy. Others coach and manage. BUT 6 games is a small sample size. As I've said, I've seen this in other places. Lets pump the brakes and see how the season plays out.

You are the embarrassment friend. When your narrative blows up you have to write a new one. Teams lose games on the road to where they are headed. You were wrong, just too stinking proud to admit it. This isn't about Garrett or Jerry or the team. It's about you still having to be right, even though you have been dead wrong. Carry on with the narrative. I'm not buying. You haven't been in the know...you have just been wrong. I'm happy you were.

There is no need for all the personal insults, especially at this time.

If it continues, then you guys will just have to take some time away from CZ to cool off.

So now even Jerry is getting the credit before Garrett?

So riddle me this if this nonsense you are spouting is true.

If Parcells couldn't convert Jerry into a football man, who is teaching this old dog these new tricks?

.....waiting for the next hysterical response...

You are like many other posters. Stay on point. Parcells is not part of this.

I said. Garrett gets some credit.
Yes, Jerry is getting credit before Garrett. Jerry is teaching himself. On the job training, wayyyyy before Garrett.

Stay blind.
