In my entire football watching life, I have never seen someone go up for a ball with 2 hands, and pull one of them away if he didn't have it. Instinct alone tells you that if you do not have the ball to reach for it with both hands. On top of this, Dez spun towards the goal line. If he didn't have the football secured how could he do that and take a hand away?

Dumbest call I have ever seen. I do however, agree with Jason Garrett, we did not lose the game because of the Refs.

Yeah the NFL wants to divine intent with stuff like "football move". Ok, so what in the world would a WR be thinking when he switched the ball from one hand to the other and attempt to run into the end zone or reach out and break the plane? There is no way Dez was thinking "I need to catch this ball". He clearly already considered the ball caught.

How in Hades do you reverse this????

Exactly. It was lost because Demarco Murray fumbled, Bailey missed, and Moore was lost.

If Bailey makes the kick and Murray doesn't fumble, it's 24-7 in the 3rd quarter.

There's certainly contact there on the legs. Whether it was enough to impede his progress I dont think anyone can say without a doubt.
It doesn't matter if it impeded his progress. The contact isn't want caused him to go to the ground. He was going to ground even if no one was in the vicinity.

Looking back at it, there's absolutely no way Dez could have caught the ball and stayed on his feet.

That was one of the greatest catches in playoff history based on the circumstances (4th down, etc.) and to have it taken away because of an asinine rule is incomprehensible, even with that rule I still thought it was a catch. But alas the Boys did miss several opportunities to put the game way.....I didn't realize how close Moore was to breaking up the Rodgers TD pass, if he had turned his head it would have been knocked down or an Int. and all this Rogers "legend" talk would have been put to rest....sigh!

The contact is a trip. One leg in front of Dez's. It absolutely caused him to go down. His trajectory changes dramatically at that point.

Statements like this just make us look like biased whiners. People can't really think this, can they?

He was falling to the ground. His momentum would have prevented him from remaining on his feet. Geez.

His momentum? Really? Why? He was fairly balanced when he landed his 2nd foot (and immediately thrown off balance by Shields' leg). There is absolutely no reason his momentum would have made him go to the ground. Unless you think Dez had gimpy legs.

true enough. true enough.

But players make mistakes. Teams and Coaches makes mistakes. The other team makes good plays.

Its those teams that battle back and win, that are special. And we did exactly that. We battled back....too bad, the NFL has dumb and dumber as officiating crew.

It's so simple.

Did Dez catch the ball? Of course he did. 100 percent of the planet says so.

But there's this strange rule that exists for some reason nobody understands. It's got gray area all around it.

The rule will get scrapped this offseason and re-written. But it won't help Dallas last Sunday.

I would've thought that would have happened in the off-season after the Megatron robbing, and it didn't.

Are you watching this? It wasn't balanced at all. He had no chance of staying on his feet.

His torso is a good yard or more off center from his feet and he's flying forward with momentum.

He barely even gets his 3rd step before his knee nearly hitting the ground.

“By rule, when a receiver with possession of the ball is in the act of going to the ground and performs a second act by reaching out to break the plane, that completes the process of the catch and the ball is dead when it breaks the plane.”

- Mike Pereira, 2010

Your sig above. Question. In Pereira's view does breaking the plane complete the catch, not TRYING to break the plane? Seems both are a football move.

I don't agree with that at all, he looks to be upright when he lands and the hard trip is what makes him go to the ground

Dez is an incredible athlete, I think he stays on his feet with no contact

Per the rule, it's the attempt to break the plane that matters, not whether it actually breaks the plane. Pereira and Blandino do not think he was lunging or reaching out thereby engaging in an attempt to break the plane.

Do the math in your head. You're saying he was more horizontal than vertical...That's not the case at all. The opposite is true.

His 3rd step is off because he was tripped.
