Just don't see Dallas offering their 1st. If Oakland is, you know Minny makes that deal with or without his consent. Unless he flat out says in the media he isn't playing for anyone but Dallas.

Oakland would do it too; Even though they have no shot.

Well until Peterson says no to any team other than Dallas.

I've read a couple of reports that Peterson is interested in 4 teams. Dallas, Arizona, Tampa Bay and the Chargers. I am really not sure why Tampa Bay is in there.

Correct... why do people think he gets to pick his team as if he is a free agent?

He can relay a message back to whoever. I will sit out, or something. Then that team just traded a 1st for an unhappy player. ? I dont think AP is willing to set out a year though. I dont think he wants to do that.. He has to play this year. imho.

The only demand he has made is not playing in Minny. I doubt he would sit out on another team if he is getting paid.

I'd give up a 2nd since I think we're going to be taking a RB in the 2nd anyway (maybe 1st if Gurley is BPA).

Might be just enough to land him.

So McFadden is the lead dog?

That is your plan?

Seriously?

Wow.

Where did I say McFadden was the lead? Or any current rb on the roster. No one back is gonna carry the load. Garrett saw how Murray was worn out last year, and said so about next year after the season ended.

So we got a Raider castoff, an underwear thief, a practice squad guy, a change of pace guy, and then add a rookie to the mix (which has a 50% chance of being a bust).................everybody then gets exactly 1/5 of the carries so no one back becomes the lead dog.

Is that the plan you guys want to go with over Peterson?

All I can say is WOW...............if this is how we are going to play this thing, I hope the offensive line is as good as yall seem to think it is.

Coaches have no prob with those guys, obviously you do. Want to change things, become a 'Boys coach then or marry into the Jones family.

The same coaches that went 8-8 every season until our bellcow took over?

Bellcow is now gone................talking up backs that sat on the bench watching the bellcow last season is laughable.

We need a new bellcow and his name is AP.

Come on man. You know full well the concept of a running back committee and if I am not mistaken you were there when Adam listed all the playoff and super bowl teams with running back committees. DMC might get 10 carries. Ryan Williams, Joe Randall, Dunbar and the rookie would all compete for a similar load. You only take the best three and I am fairly confident that a 5 man competition will make them all better.

Maybe it wasn't the blocking and DMC really does suck. Maybe Ryan Williams can only perform in the preseason. Maybe Randall steals a car and goes to jail. Maybe Dunbar and the rookie just suck. I don't think all of them are going to fail to contribute.

The SAME coaches that had a great OL in place, opening holes for Murray. Ya, those same coaches.

I think that the rookie we draft, be it Gurley, Gordon, Ajayi, Coleman or one of the other backs, will be in a great position. I really think that they will be the favorite for Rookie of the Year. Our offensive line is great, we have a great QB and a great receiver corp. No matter who the rookie is that lands here, he will be in a great position to succeed.

How do you know? Maybe he does, maybe he blows out his knee on the play before. These 'what-if' posts are dumb.

I tend to agree. AP could be one of those players that takes a rapid decline and he could be nothing like the player that he was in the past. Many posters act like he is an up and coming young RB at this point of his career and the truth is that he could be an average RB at his age. Fans like to remember his glory days and that is what they want to believe he is capable of at 30 years old. AP is not s sure thing at this point. It is a gamble to depend on him for an entire three year contract. He could be a gamble worth taking if the cost does not include trading draft picks to acquire his rights.

I am curious. All of you guys obsessing over AP coming here; what are you willing to give up? What is the highest draft pick you would give up? What kind of contract would you be willing to give? For how many years and how much per year?

See, I think most of us would be fine with AP coming here, even those of us arguing against it, but the sticking point is what we would be willing to give. For me, if AP could be had for a 3rd or 4th rounder and no more than a 2-3 year contract for $5-6 million per, I would be fine with it. Any more and I think you are mortgaging the future and that is something the old Jerry Jones would do.

So, put it on record guys. What is the most you would be willing to give up? I am interested in reading what everyone says. Both those who want him here and those who do not.

I've done it before in this thread, but since it's 100 pages plus now, I'll do it again.

My position is this:

I would give up a 4th round pick this year, and a conditional pick in 2016. One that could range from another 4th, to a 2nd rounder, based on production. It gives the a vikings something for giving up by far their best player, but still leaves the Cowboys plenty of draft resources to continue to build and improve.

I would give Peterson a 3-year, $25 million contract, with half of that amount guaranteed. Peterson effectively gets his 2015 salary guaranteed (which he doesn't have now), Dogra gets another 3%, and the Cowboys actually improve at running back.

The deal would be backloaded to give us some relief now and leave us with about $5 - $6 million in dead money at the end, giving us and Romo a 2 year window to win a championship.

If it doesn't happen before both are gone, at least I know I did everything I could and took my shot.

The draft picks I would be fine with but no way would I offer a 3 year $25 million dollar contract. That is more per year than we offered Murray. Many on the team were good friends with Murray, what kind of message is that sending? We know you were a great RB here. We know you ran for the most yards in Cowboys history last year. We know you were a leader on the team. But, sorry, we can't pay you that much per year. But we CAN pay more to this other RB who happens to be coming off a suspension and is four years older than you.

That just makes no sense to me at all. Chemistry is a real and important thing in locker rooms. I fear that might just screw up the chemistry here majorly.
