LSU offensive lineman La’El Collins would have been a first-round pick last week, but for his connection to a double-murder investigation.

But his current status goes far beyond anything involving his freefall through the entire 2015 NFL Draft.

Collins met with investigators this morning, and apparently it went well.

According to Jerit Roser of the New Orleans Times Picayune, the Baton Rouge Police Department said Collins “fully cooperated with investigators and is still not considered a suspect.”

While that’s not exactly the same as “cleared,” his attorney has expressed confidence that would be the case.

While an NFL team could sign him at any point, it’s reasonable to expect that they’ll wait until there’s a clearer reading of the situation, before anyone proceeds.

Former LSU tackle and undrafted free agent La'el Collins was questioned by police in Baton Rouge, La. on Monday. The 21-year-old, however, is still not being considered a suspect in the murder investigation of his former girlfriend Brittney Mills, Baton Rouge (La.) Police said.

Collins sat with investigators for over an hour.

"There is that possibility of more questioning of Mr. Collins," Baton Rouge Police public information officer Don Coppola said Monday per the USA Today. "No one can be ruled out until an arrest has been made."

Mills was shot to death late last month and through his relationship with her, Collins was requested by police to give any additional details. Because of the cloud of uncertainty, Collins, once a projected first-round pick in the NFL Draft, was not selected over the weekend.

"The investigation is going to continue, and La'el is going to now start making efforts to get his football career back on track," Collins' attorney Jim Boren said. "He answered all the questions they had. Every question. We didn't claim the fifth (refusal to answer a question as it may incriminate). We answered every single question. We gave them all the information they asked for, and he's ready to get his life back."

BS, if his alibi checks out he can be cleared. Are they thinking this is a murder for hire?

really? you think it would tarnish the squeaky cleanliness of this team?

The value in signing this player is beyond belief, 3 first round players for the price of one first round pick.

We do have a murderer on this team so you make a valid point. I think every NFL team is waiting for the all clear.

While they wait, we should pounce. You can easily cut him if things go south.

The Patriots had Aaron Hernandez on their team and no one is talking about his conviction, they're talking about how the team won a super bowl again.

I suspect GM's did him a solid by not drafting him.
He can go to the highest bidder if he is in fact totally cleared with all questions answered in the next few weeks.

He isn't going to sign a minimum contract.

Check that 2 top 10 and 1 first round haha

Just weeks after we all declared the Dallas Cowboys Stephen Jones' team, like the Star-Telegram's Clarence E. Hill Jr. did as well, the new-look Cowboys are decidedly old-school. Two decades after a team full of electrifying talent and terrifying off-the-field issues won three Super Bowls in four years, the Cowboys are trying to turn back the clock.

As Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman wrote, Randy Gregory is just the latest high-risk, high-reward talent who figures to play a huge role in bringing a championship back to Dallas this season. Were the Cowboys to fill their post-draft opening at tailback with Ray Rice, they'll have cornered the market on such players.

Between his failed drug test at the combine, and the "mental health issues" reported by ESPN's Ed Werder via Pro Football Talk, Gregory not only has to overcome an illness but the consequences of his terrible decision-making.

Gregory's bookend pass-rusher, Greg Hardy, won't join him on the field for the first 10 games of the regular season. Hardy's serving a suspension imposed for serious charges of domestic violence against his former partner, which were dropped when she failed to testify against him.

Don't forget about holdover Dez Bryant, whose old ghosts haunted him while the Cowboys weighed giving him a massive extension this winter; rumored video evidence he'd assaulted a partner never materialized—but neither did the contract. Bryant's playing on the franchise tag this season, and staying away from team facilities (and oversight).

Even after this article was originally published, linebacker Rolando McClain had a court date trying to get charges of disorderly conduct dismissed before trial, according to Paul Gattis of AL.com.

As long as the police believe he had a motive and the killer is unknown, he will be a "person of interest". It really has nothing to do with him at all, it's just that solving these cases is often nothing more than a process of elimination. Until the killer is known it simply isn't possible to eliminate anyone, especially someone who may have had a motive. The Supreme Court has allowed police to lie to anyone they are investigating, so there is really no reason to believe anything La'el says they told him is true.

Of course, if La'el's lawyer is willing to let him convince a team he is innocent - like say, the Cowboys - and maybe provide some supporting evidence or documentation of an alibi, and maybe some information on paternity, there is no reason they couldn't make a deal with him that would protect the team financially from any blow-back from the murder investigation, IMO.

i don't think we need this on this team - even if he is clean

Why? The price he's paying is BS if he's innocent.

Imagine getting fired by your boss because you were questioned by the police during the investigation of the murder of your neighbor that you had a history of animosity toward but had absolutely no role in the crime.

I'm not trying to defend him per se, I'm just bothered by the fact that innocent until proven guilty is apparently an afterthought these days

It is not happening, but if someone is going turn up their nose on him, that is just insane.

He could probably replace Leary or Free, right now, sight unseen.

We are becoming a team of misfit toys. He is not even the train with square wheels if innocent.

Bills are a good fit, they need oline help.

It is more likely the Dolphins and Bills are places that have made it clear he would be welcomed as a starter. They are showing the "love".
