It's now pretty obvious. We can't score without Romo

We need a serviceable backup qb. If we lose romo down the stretch for a couple key games it's goodbye season. Vaughan is not going to be good. He's basically the Steven McGee project all over again. And Weeden. Yeah I'm very worried

That is true for most every team in the league

Maybe so, but I couldn't care LESS about 'most every team in the league'. I'm a Cowboys fan and have been since 1978. I don't remember too many years where our backup QB and third stringer looked this bad. Vaughn should be cut, bring in a vet via trade to backup Tony NOW and make Weeden the third stringer.

I agree . Vaughn looks very mediocre at best . It is amazing Jason has missed again on a QB prospect . McGee BUST , Weeden BUST , and now Vaughn ..

My point is it is not easy. Most teams don't have a good starter must less a backup. If Romo goes down the team is screwed.

Weeden was a bust before he got here...

It's not easy to mold a quarterback prospect out of any non blue chip talent. If we stuck with Vaughn, he may be serviceable in a year or two but he will never be starting material. Most quarterbacks are first round picks, the vast majority were drafted before the fourth round(which is the highest we have invested since Quincy Carter?)

We literally hit the lottery with Romo, we will likely have to use a first round pick in the future to replace him.

First, who is this miraculous starter-disguised-as-backup that can come in at the end of camp and pick up the offense?

Second, why is any team with a good backup going to trade him now? Why put themselves in that position?

ABW (anybody but Weeden)

ABV (anybody but Vaughn)

.........Kyle friggin' ORTON would be better than these two stiffs. The Commanders rolled out Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy last night who both played very well. (No, not implying the SKins would trade with us) Just pointing out how poorly the front office has mishandled the situation. There are guys out there who are better than Weeden or Vaughn: get it done JJ.

The issue with getting another back-up right before the season starts is that they're going to have a to be a really quick learner. If you really want to depend on him right away he still needs to learn the playbook and become adequately familiar with the receivers.

The sad part is you see backups, and there backups with the ability to score during PS. Once Romo goes out, we're done scoring. They even left the 1st string Oline in there for a bit for Vaughn.

The only teams concerned with are the Seahawks, Packers and Eagles and they all have serviceable backup QBs; we got squat. Their season is not going to blow up in their face if their starter goes down. Green Bay has the most drop off because of the level of Rogers play, but they still got some good backups.

I'll have to go light up a candle for Romo.

Since he missed this last game, I want to see Weeden get a lot of work against the Texans. I think they will keep just two QB's on the 53 anyway.

So you didn't realize this last year when Weeden started the Cardinals game?

There is not even enough quality starters in this league at QB much less expecting a backup to come in and win games. Did you see what the Packers looked like last year when Rodgers went down? Pretty awful.

I will agree that Vaughan and Weeden are terrible and having someone else would be better. Orton and Kitna were very serviceable and both were starters as well in their careers.
