News: PFT: Jerry Jones: I’ve tried to get cute at the quarterback spot

Honestly I don't think that, i.e. drafting a QB every years works today... and until at least ONE NFL team starts doing it again... I don't think it's realistic.

So what does work? You just said yourself it is a throw-away exercise beyond the first round.

That could be true, trust your board. My board would have a QB at the top of the round(s). I mean come on here. There are not just 32 men in all of College football that can play the position at a high level in the NFL. There are some Romo's out there and there are some Leaf's, however, until you start making it a PRIORTY for one of the hardest positions in football, if they don't start getting some in here right away...it's over.

It just makes sense at this point in time...

Trusting your board is a concept built on having a quality one constructed.

Yeah, those NFL teams, they all know exactly what they are doing better now than ever. That explains why you see the same franchises making the same mistakes over and over again.

There are about maybe five franchises that I consider competent anymore. Maybe less.

I have very little reverence for how NFL teams are run. There is a lot of shiftless behavior, nepotism and general stupidity around for me to not respect what is the general rule.

I understand what you're saying but it doesn't mean they're wrong either.

It kind of does when you see so many teams floundering year after year. A lot of teams are lucky the product overall keeps people on the hook, because if they were publicly held companies, you would see a lot of idiots unemployed.

True most games were sleepers but to say he didn't check down and let the backs or Beaze get YAC? Those are the fans not paying attention. The bomber tried to complete passes down field, if they don't work you net zero.

No, Weeden DID throw the ball down field but people choose what they want to remember. Just like they don't want to remember that Weeden led a 91 yard drive to tie the game and completed passes of 17, 19, 24 and 28 in the process. All on the road in one of the loudest stadiums in the league.
The one thing Weeden did not to do is that he did not make any attempt to throw down he field to the wideouts. At all. Why? From my perspective, he likely has Garrett in his face all week telling him to play carefully, do your job and don't do too much, blah blah, and he likely decides that after practicing with Street and Williams for two seasons that they are not reliable receivers, they can't catch, and they will cause turnovers unless they are wide, wide open. Was he wrong?
Then Cassel comes in, figures hey, I'll come in and use all of the receivers on the field, and throws 3 interceptions that easily could have been 5. After that he was mostly a check down machine himself.

See I don't put a QB at the top of the board for each round just because they're a QB... They have to earn the spot and most QB's coming out of college aren't or don't.

The fact is the chances of selecting a "Romo" are very slim... Are the Cowboys going to have to pull the trigger? You bet, but I would hope they wait until the opportunity is there to draft a guy who is somewhat close in value to where they are drafting.

That's true...and if this franchise does not put a QB as a top priority for this coming draft and the one's after that until they can get a good one to replace Romo, it's going to be a long time coming.

Weeden painted what he was the week before he started. He believed in his arm.

Why this idea is that he is a dink and dunk QB exists, I have no idea.

He became dink and dunk due to direction.

Cassel's spastic up and down, attack then conservative approach, that's on the gameplans. Not the player.

Draft or free agency, the time is pretty much now.

Knowing Jones, we get Robert Griffin.

That makes me want to cry.

Sorry for the confusion...but your two sentences are confusing. Also, this thing about "value", points for this player and points for that player and this players has 2698 points, that players has 1100 points, blah, blah, blah.

No...the value, whatever points, whatever position on a draft board...they better get their hands out of their pants and start drafting one like the house is on fire, because it is.

Weather or not he became a dink and dunk doesn't take away from that's what he did.

I agree that if a QB is there WHO THEY THINK CAN BE DEVELOPED then they need to draft him.

All depends if you think he did it due to nature or due to direction. Seeing how Cassel has behaved and Weeden's own comments, I say direction.

Hey, but not all is lost at the QB position....if things go as they always have since Aikman called it quits, Romo's baby boy will be in his 20's just in time to sign with the Cowboys.

Again weather by design or having no confidence I'd like to see a pass by pass chart. I'm not savvy enough to find one though.:(
