As we immerse ourselves in the waters of sanctimony, hyperbole and hosannas for the perennially injured and playoffs challenged Romo, keep in mind that he is bouncing back fro one of 5 injuries sustained in the past several years.
And, of course, he called Dak.
He knew word would leak and he'd be known as a selfless, benevolent, old master. Looking kindly at a young QB who otherwise could not lead this team to 6-1 without the wise, sage advice of an elder statesman.
But Dak is his own man and has done well with the advice and help of coaches and active teammates. He does not need -- though he will gracefully accept -- advice from a veteran clearly riding into the sunset.
This weekend, while Dak and company do battle with the Browns, I and I hope you will be aboard the Cowboys express instead of still being delirious over an aged QB's entreaty to a young luminary such as Dak.
Time to pass the torch.
Leave the scenarios of a fallen old QB rising up, Phoenix-like, for gatherings of Romo acolytes.
Look to the future, not the futile past.
We do not owe Romo a Super Bowl anymore than we owe one one to the next bloke.
Move on.

Romo isn't going anywhere this year. The cap hit would be too great.

We're not going to keep a $30 million backup QB. He'll be a June 1st cut and the remainder of his SB will be spread over two years. $10 mil a year.

He will be the QB for the Jets next year. Not sure how long he's going to make it.

What makes you think Romo is the better quarterback right now? He's coming off a broken back and he hasn't played in a regular season game in a year. What don't you understand about that? Dak is a dual threat what don't you understand about that? We lose the read option with Romo at quarterback what don't you understand about that?
Dak runs the ball, on average, 4 times a game for under 4 yards per carry. His deficiency in the red zone (and actually all over the field) vs. a healthy Romo is not overcome by 14 yards per game on average.

IF Romo is not the same QB as 2014. Ok fine. We deserve it to this offense to find out given how much better a passer Tony is vs. Dak.

I don't understand why it has to be termed hatred for Romo when someone acknowledges his shortcomings and wants to stick with Dak. I don't hate Romo at all. I just think he gave everything he had and it wasn't good enough so I want to see if Dak can work his magic in the playoffs. If they go back to Romo, of course I will cheer for him but I will also fully expect a huge letdown game in the playoffs.
Romo was never what held back this Cowboys team. It's embarrassing you think he might have been the culprit all these years. He has played QB at a level an order of magnitude better than what Dak is capable of at this moment. That's not up for debate.

nobody has ever doubted hes a good teammate and leader. but when ur body keeps breaking it is what it is. he will never start another game for dallas unless dak is hurt or he falls off a cliff. nothing wrong with thanking him for what he did for the organization and still be happy this team has found a new franchise qb. nobody plays for ever.

If Romo is on this team next season Jerry is a fool.

He is a great player, but given his age, health, salary and the way Dak is playing, it makes no sense to tie up around $20 million on Romo.

They have to use that money on the defense.

Also what is not up for debate, old fellow:
*Romo has lorded over 11 years of non-playoffs futility. And, please, do not point to his 2 CAREER PLAYOFF WINS.
*His perennial December fade-aways
*His couldn't-come-at-a-worst-time picks (again, see December)
*His 5 or 6 injuries that show an increasingly brittle skeletal profile
*His age. It happened to Unitas, Starr, Montana, Aikman, Manning, in finitum...and it will happen to Brady, and Brees as it is now happening to Romo. My god, bloke, even his biggest supporter, the well-meaning but sometimes dimwitted Sir Jerry is wavering to being Romo's enabler.
*His inability to get to a higher competitive level, i.e., deep into the playoffs as in the second round.
So quit dissing Dak with mindless hosannas to a QB whose time has passes.
Praise him, yes, but remember that we came to bury him. He and his millions in salary cap.

Good lad, you said much with few words.
Yes, gratefulness for his stewardship, but it's time for Dak.

I really don't understand how people think Tony is going to last very long when he gets back out on the field. He's played 4 regular season games in 2 seasons and has gotten hurt in 2 of them. I don't know why it will be different this time. Just because he says he feels great. I've heard that before. This isn't 2014 anymore.

We haven't even made the Playoffs yet, so settle down with these ridiculous thoughts.
Also, going into the Playoffs with a QB who has played in them & Won in them, shouldn't be just brushed off as no big deal.
It's cool to like what the team is doing & how Dak is playing but put the shovel down. Romo's not dead & he's still a QB for this team & has earned respect, so try giving some.
How naive. How loyal. I admire the second part.

So let's make a bet, should be easy money for you... since you think he should fall apart after the first hit. I wager that he survives the first game no problem. What do you say?

Could you elaborate on his perennial December fade-aways? If you were an outsider/non-Cowboys "fan" i'd forgive your ignorance. But as someone who purports to follow this team you are outrageously ignorant of the fact that over Tony's last 16 December games he's thrown 34 tds against 8 ints and has a QB rating of 104.1.

You're embarrassing yourself.

I would say the most logical reason the Cowboys aren't saying Dak is the guy is because he isn't -- Tony is, and will be until he proves otherwise on the field, or demonstrates he just can't get healthy enough to meet the physical demands of being an NFL quarterback. I think the Cowboys need to know if Tony can still play at a high level, and they are going to put him on the field and find out as soon as he's ready. It really has nothing to do with Dak, IMO. He'll be right there if they need him.

What have those great personal stats gotten the Cowboys??????
How many Super Bowls?
How many NFC championships?
How many second round playoff wins?

I recall lots of December picks when, afterward, Tony using the plural "we" as in "we have to do better," post game excuses, closed the season with lots of what-ifs.
And acolytes, like you, meekly nodded and blamed the forces of bad luck.

It is you who shows a naive, embarrassing perspective on continual failure, hoping that doing the same thing will somehow produce a better outcome.
I believe that type of futility is called insanity. Be glad we have a young and agile QB to take the mantle from an aged, brittle QB who "deserves" a 12th chance. Noooo, my brother. Your ignorance borders on astounding.

How about giving Dak a 1st chance.

We could not possibly do worse than Romo's cumulative 8-8 seasons, though you, evidently, prefer that.
Do not embarrass thyself, loyal son of the past....

Thank you for bringing that up. Stupid people who don't know what they're talking about blame Romo for those December fade-aways. In fact, it was a tired, banged up defense that was never any much good in the first place breaking down and letting other teams score almost at will.

Romo and that offense is why we were even flirting with playoff spots in 3 of those last 4 Decembers. Certainly not the defense, which continued giving up 4th quarter leads in almost every game.
