Heck, Melon...I worked for nearly 40 yrs as a CE on cargo ships..daily routine to manage drunks and hardcases..I learned to not be too judgemental and put myself in other peoples situations..best as l could. Job had to go on, with very little outside support, so l learned to make out the best l could. I have a lot of respect for working class ...everyday people based on my working life.

I've been a head football coach in texas since 2004. I've seen my fair share of drunks. Celebrate if you win, drown your sorrows if you lose. Lol, always a reason to get tanked.

It's funny if you read the LEO reports. They hammer Colorado because they ask the kids if it was in the past 30 days as they want anyone who has every used pot to be considered a user and then go to cherry pick national federal data on all ages for a specific state and age group.

Interesting. Is the law enforcement think tank you speak of the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) cause it's my understanding that that report was biased and misleading.

Wait - how can your only issue be that weed is illegal, when you admit you drank liquor before you were of legal age, which by definition is . . . illegal?

I think there's a middle ground here where if someone gets arrested, then the league can consider punishing them for being arrested. But the league shouldn't be deputizing itself to enforce the law when it isn't really affecting on-the-job performance. My 2 cents.

I copy brother! And understand where your coming from but(I don't want to tell stories about myself but to illustrate as to the 'why' of my reasoning I guess I'll have to) when "I" was paying guys decent cash hourly wages and they'd be gittin' high on the job AND screwing it up? cutting into my profit margin double with parts/hours/ rework my ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY was splattering their nose with a quick left and sending them down the road,I know everyone thinks I'm a 'Richard head redneck' now, but those mo-fo's needed to act their age or not work for me.

( I'm not really like that much anymore these days,cuz' I guess I've stopped caring)

If it is affecting someone's work performance, let their employer deal with it. No different than alcohol. If you're showing up hungover, the team can and should discipline you. Ironically ingesting marijuana is far less likely to induce the kind of stupid behavior that alcohol does. I've never seen someone get stoned and start a barfight or race cars or drive dangerously. The Cowboys are a team that knows that difference better than anyone.

No, it can't harm us because it isn't harmful. Particularly on the scale of things we allow (tobacco, alcohol, prescription painkillers). If you're against those then to each his own. If you don't then you're probably a hypocrite.

I'm probably in the minority in that I'm over 50 and have never had a beer or marijuana or any other illegal drugs. So, my only experiences with any of them come from my childhood...living in a home where some of those things were a problem. All that said, marijuana being illegal is simply insane...especially for medical use. The NFL testing for it in no way improves the image of the league or the product they put on the field. I believe it is counter-productive.

If there are issues of a substance being abused, they need to treat those things as medical issues. Having watched it, I think abuse is more medical than behavioral at its core.

I think if they traded their booze for a little weed that they would make better decisions, especially in Texas where we seem to always be running with the pack instead of leading the pack.

An example would be watching every state surrounding us legalized bingo before us, also the lottery as they watched Texas going to bordering states to buy lottery tickets, they're now doing the same thing with casino gambling, watching a lot of Texans money going to neighboring states casinos.......we have slow thinking lawmakers in Texas that have no forsight to envision how much revenue casinos and legalizing small amounts of weed would generate.

I don't drink, don't smoke, and don't do any drugs not prescibed to me and I always take those as directed.
Don't tell me pot can't hurt you. I lost a friend in college that got high on pot and then decided he was an invincible driver.

Ha!! I have a farm here...commercial vegetables...really run by Indigenous folks...mountainous..hard work..employs 5 full time men. Tough, hard working, drunks or hardcases. For years l struggled with these boys. Every weekend... the local constabulary..would call me to bail them out come Monday morning..hard boozers...fight amongst themselves or beat the **** out of their Women folk. Anyway, some time again ago...l was sharing my labour troubles with a local preacher from the Adventist church...which is promnent and protestant here. The Preacher told me about all the sober members of his congregation that didn't have problems...heck l hired 5 and never looked back!!
