Wow, to top off a crappy week, my wife's uncle had a heart attack and died today :(

He lived in Lake Charles, wonder if the weather had anything to do with it, stress and all. He was older and not in good health anyways.

The hits keep on coming.....................:banghead:

I'm sorry to hear this, Dex. Many condolences to your wife and family.

Great opportunity to help out others in dire need right now. I can't be there personally right now and this entire coast will be picking up the pieces for years. This was on the news last night and don't see it anywhere here and wanted to share.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, tens of thousands of our neighbors have been displaced and are looking for shelter and long-term assistance. Please consider donating to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to help those affected by the storms rebuild and recover.

Now that the storm has passed, has everyone checked in that were in the affected areas?

I'm still here. Haven't felt like posting. Just can't right now. It's very personal and difficult for me to think what to say or the energy to say it, haven't slept much this passed week. But I will check in and give a quick update on our situation at present. Our little town is dry at the moment, now that the rain flood waters have drained off, but we are surrounded by water on all sides. The San Bernard is slowly creeping up on us, the highway and all roads out have water on them, the main highway is completely flooded between me and my oldest son, can't get to him, his water and sewer has been shut off since yesterday, lights keep threatening to go off even now, and he has no cable to watch tv. He wants to stay and tough it out, don't want to leave his place for potential looters. We are in danger of having our water/sewer cut off, as well. And in danger they say of mass flooding from the river, which is so very hard to wrap your head around, as it has never happened before. Just so hard to picture, to imagine, to believe. All you can do is shake your head and try to fathom the impossible, and then you shake your head and say, nah, no way, not here. Man, it's exhausting and stressful. And this is where we are at the moment in my town. The city says at least 5 more days til they know if they can lift the mandatory evacuation order and allow our lives to return to some kind of normal. Just please keep Texas in your thoughts and prayers, and please folks, don't forget about those in the actual Hurricane who are still in dire need! Almost everyone in this entire area of Texas, including my whole family, will be without at least a week's pay, which is going to devastate a lot of families even further. :(

My god, they have found the van with the missing family from Greens Bayou. Watching it live right now on the news. 2 elderly adults already confirmed inside the van and possibly the 4 children that are also missing, but were with them. Some of their family is there at the scene, in fact it was a family member who found the van. What do you say for this? :(

I know what you are going through, hang in there and it will get better.......just will take a long time. Lets hope that there is no more flooding from these rivers and reservoirs.

It is nice seeing the people come together for a change and showing the rest of the country what teamwork/comradely is all about. Maybe this sets an example going forward

I am set to fly out Friday, hope I can make it and lend a hand to the community.

good luck and hope the roads clear up soon. they say water levels are receding but it is sure easy for us to say from 2000 miles away.

Bless their hearts trying to get to safety, that's just terrible. RIP It's all very upsetting and I can't take much more. I've done all I can do and seen all I can see for the past couple of days on the coast. :(

I think I will go home (Abilene) tomorrow to dry out and recharge my batteries. Maybe I'll be back in September to help some more.

Yes it is such a good thing the waters are receding some in the Houston area. Unfortunately, that is the waters that are flowing down the rivers and flooding all of our towns down south, that is stacking on top of all of our rain flood waters. It is just our share of it all and our turn, and it is only fair I guess, that we would suffer along with our Houston neighbors. I already know of several dear friends of our's that have lost everything the last couple of days, only about 5 to 10 miles from us in different directions, from the same rising river and flood waters that are threatening to flood us out. Just ready for it all to pass through and go into the Gulf, and leave us Texas folks be to pick up the pieces and start over. God bless everyone who is going through this horrible nightmare all across our state, and all of our families and friends up north who are praying for us. God bless all who have helped in any way and come from all over the country to rescue. You are true Angels among us, just like Alabama sang about years ago. <3

Trying to read some articles about the flooding and good Samaritan stories on Facebook and every one of them are inundated with pure evil in the comments. There are a lot of people saying Texas deserved this because.....well you all know why. I need to stay away from the comment sections but easier said than done :(

If one of them people stood in front of me and said it to my face, they would get throat-punched followed by a round between their eyes! Nothing but pure hatred out there :banghead:

Here's something that will turn that frown upside down.
I'm ecstatic to report Kenneth L. Storey, a sociology professor at the University Of Tampa was fired just two days after posting, “I dont believe in instant Karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesnt care about them.” What kind of a monster is this man to wish this on innocent people and turn a Hurricane disaster into a political topic. REALLY?!
Unlike the professor, I do BELIEVE IN INSTANT KARMA. ;)
